The fundamental problem is that they have too much power in this system. representative democracies are dictatorships where they can do what they want for 4 years. This should never be allowed to happen. If all you're going to do is replace the current government rather than the system, ,you will only be removing the lumps not the cancer. Name any sovereign state in the world that does not have a Central Bank? The first Central Banks were created 400 years ago the Bank of Sweden and the Bank of England are the oldest. It was the Bank of England that invented the concept of paper money backed up by gold held in reserve in bank vaults rather than circulating gold coins(the Gold Standard). You cannot have a state without a Central Bank that's why Ron Paul's idea is so loony!

@petersz98 Paper money was used as receipts for gold held in warehouses (deposit banking). Now paper money is based on nothing. You can't go to the central bank and redeem anything for you're banknote. If a private agency did this it would be considered fraudulent, but when government does it it's called macroeconomic monetary policy and you're not supposed to question it. Download Rothbard's "What has Government Done to Our Money". It's an afternoon reading.
