  • 3:20 - how to make a quick getaway in a class 35! Great vid

  • Professional quality video. Nice.

  • Nice shots!

  • I've never actually seen one of these locos in real life, I've only seen photos of them in books. I've always thought that they look rather pleasant. I'm a bit surprised by the amount of black exhaust she's producing. The engine has an interesting sound, IMHO. Thanks.

  • Visual and aound excellence. Loved this collection. Strange request, but is it possible to do a .wav sound file as I'm planning an N guage Devon layout and already have 2 Hymeks in anticipation ? I'm thinking of displaying it, and I could use 'Audition' to cut and lengthen a .wav file to supply genuine Hymek sounds for arriving, idling and departing. Happy to give appropriate credit on display.

  • Eeek that were great! Do they usually make such a clattering noise? Very nice video work as well!

  • That was awesome, thanks!

  • No Problem...!

  • Nothing can beat the sound of a 'Hymek' on top form!

  • Nice one milepost326! I love the sound of this loco, don't know anything about the type, and agree with other comments that you should produce a dvd for sale, you have the eye, the skill and the camera equipment.

    What camera were you using?

  • Many thanks for your comments mate!

I hope to get the time to sit down and put a DVD together in the New Year!

  • ...in it's day the Hymek seemed rather 'Racey' with it's swept back cab and large two tones on the roof! Oh and the 'sundim' glass screens always caught the light too...

  • Sound (and smoke) reminds me a bit of an Alco.

  • i have to admit, you have gotta love the british two tone horn close up and especially from a distance, this is a horn i'll never get fed-up of hearing :)

  • Holy smoke!!

  • gd old somerset!

  • Just got back from Somerset (Wick St Lawrence) and Cornwall (St Ives) and went to the West Somerset Railway. Saw lots of steam but no diesels (except a DMU, although years ago I loved them on the St Ives to St Erth branch). As an enthusiastic trainspotter in the 60s and 70s, I've just checked my Ian Allan Combined Volume to find I didn't "spot" many Hymeks ... only 15 of the 101 that were built. Loads of Westerns and Warships but not many Hymeks. Thanks for posting here what I missed. Awesome!

  • Hellfire!!! I never understand why Hymeks don't have a huge following. I think they are top Thrash Muffins! Awesome!

  • Are you mad?

  • wrong on both counts - warships and westerns both have stressed skin bodywork, hymeks have underframes, warships have 2 MD650's with 12cyl, hymeks have the 16-cyl MD870. warships and westerns have K-M type bogies, hymeks have commonwealth bogies. Hope this helps.

  • Your Quality of filming is superb, this footage should be used in a proper dvd and released for folks to buy. Also nice to see no camera shaking.Excellent

  • Thanks mate!!!!!

  • i agree with you scruffwood mate,

he has superb camera skills and remains to keep the camera steady as if it were mounted upon a tripod, and i also agree that he should release footage's onto a dvd to be sold.

    welldone milepost326,

please bring us more footage :)

  • Not at all, the converter dosen't empty unless you switch it out, let her engage 1st gear, get the weight of the train rolling then let old mother turbo lag do her stuff.

  • Well! I bashed Diesel Hydraulics as a kid and learned a little about how they worked then drove diesel electrics on the main line a few years later. I think I'll stick with what I know then!!!!

  • It's just the driving technique that produces the desired effect. Thanks to all the DEPG/WSR lads for a cracking weekend.

  • You mean notch 1 "converter filling".....give it a few seconds then wip it open!

  • A bit like someone not too far away using the same starting tecnique with D1015 on the main line

  • Did they always clag like this in BR days or is it unwell ????

  • They "claged" a bit towards the end but not like 7076 here. I think the injectors might need adjusting or replacing, but lets hope it stays like this, it's hellfire!!!!

  • You just HAVE to see one in the 'flesh'!! Saw my first on that weekend!!

    Just AWESOME!!

  • Now, I've never seen one of these things in the flesh, so this is a real treat!! Nice one mate!

  • Superbly shot video, just a shame that the audio dosent do it justice

  • I know! by the time youtube have processed it, it looses quite a bit. But, it sounds hellfire in 5.1 on the sound system!!!!!!!!!!

  • NICE ONE BARN,as you can tell,JW from horton road was driving it,it was going to be a saltley man,but he got a nose bleed just passing camp hill!!!!

  • Well I didn't see anything really I was in the kitchen all the time...Honest Gaz!!!!

  • Actually JB was in the DA seat, you'll find that was the driver from the ELR!

  • ABSOLUTELY DREADFUL!!

    Awesome video, Cheers for uploading!!
