  • Ive got 99 problems, but red balloon aint one!

  • 22 people don't want to be like Caption Kirk.

  • WAR is the best way to achieve piece...It will happen with Iran, the terorists and other damn fuckers that threatens piece

  • I admit I would break out and dance to this song anywhere.

  • German version, 99 luftballoons \m/

  • @muh113 it was not translated right so shut your freaking mouth

  • Why is this song translated?? I mean we also hear english songs in the original??

Warum wurde dieses Lied Übersetzt?? Seriously!!

  • VICE CITY

  • Hello, I am Pennywise the Clown, and I approve this video. WU-HAH! WU-HAH!

  • It was scary living in West Germany back then, the CO in my Dads company said if the Reds launched we would have basically 2 minutes before certain death! Very very scary times.

  • thumbs up if your watching this in 15a.d. with jesus himself!

  • This has to be one of my favorite songs ever. -3

  • well the original was German, does the translation match the original lyrics and feel of it??

  • @Wolfsbane909 no not really..im german....lyrics completely different

  • The German version, sounds so much better.

  • @TheOctoberOwl danke im from germany

  • Don't u think this song is sad in a way??

  • Thumbs up if your watching this in 2011!!!!

  • bad translation of the song...

even the name of the song is different - " 99 ballons" is it in german. Not "red ballons".

So, the whole song is different and not the same. original version is so much better

  • @BlondAngel07

    Fuck you, Dr. Mengele.

    Tom

  • @BlondAngel07 In English, 'ballon' is a shorter word, so they had to replace the sylabble with a word. They thought 'red' would sound good, so they put it in. I don't mind.

  • @ReddwarfIV Actually, the longer word in this case is for 99, Neun und neunzig im Deutsch

  • You just can´t translate a German song into an English one. The drums etc. aren´t fitting! New German Wave can´t be an New English Wave...

Comparing my first language German and the English version of this Song, I can say that the German version is way better.

  • @thesmartgirl000 Maybe a better question is why this song is anti- Reagan? He is the only one that had the stones to make peace with the Soviet Union.

  • Isn't this like an anti-Reagan song? For a guy who did more than ano other person to stop stop arms race, organize and fufill peace talks with the Soviet Union, reduce nuclear arms, and stop a nuclear war from ever taking place, pepople sure dislike him. I dont quite understand it.

  • I like it in German and English. Hear it on XM radio in German, but I don't know German so I can't Learn the words. But I do agree that it flows better than the English version, but I heard the English version first 11 years ago :)

  • better in american!

  • @Skittlesness09 never :D better in german the original version is soo great

  • @Mrspianoguitar ok then.

  • . . . how bad the lyrics are?! -__- look, this isn't even a direct translation. -.-

  • Die Deutsche Version ist Besser, zudem ist die Übersetzung schlecht!

Aber ging wahrscheinlich nicht anders, muss ja noch eine Melodie raus kommen.

  • no duh german probably sounds better...thats what t was originaley written in! imagine a english song translated into a different lanuage is going to be the same? probably not. lets use our brains once in a while people.

  • @dweelieghanne if you think german is better, SCHREIBS AUCH AUF DEUTSCH DU NUSS! (sry wutausbruche)

  • this seems like she is trying too hard to fit the words in... In the German it just flows..

  • Love this song, takes me back to 1984, AWESOME year!!!

  • vôll_geil_sûcht_mÃl_ñach:_geldeasy_Ãùf_gÒògle

  • this translation sucks its not 99 red ballons its 99 air ballons

  • Very current, since Japan!

  • is that truth this son is gay pride ? lol no really is that true?

  • The German helps you forgot about how bad the lyrics are

  • suck my dick with red lipstick.

Do a good job and you will have a reward at the end.

  • @canucksallday lol LMAO! Hypocrite with a capital "H".

  • @Wolfsbane909 I knocked out somebody just like u last week and they woke up with piss on their face

  • @canucksallday "Do a good job and you will have a reward at the end." LOL that's fucked up. Yeah how about do a good job and at the end you keep the reward and the effort, oh wow that's got to be the dumbest thing ever. I avoid people that say "work first reward at the end". -That's some bullshit. usually the work gets done but for whatever reason they give no reward nor pay.

  • so what if the exact translation of "luft" is "air" ? maybe that's just how they refer to normal balloons in german.. i doubt she actually means "air balloons" as in the ones you can ride on (obviously from listening to the lyrics) but that's just what we call them in english. they probably changed it to "red" to prevent confusion.

  • she sounds funny speaking in english not makeing fun of her or anything

  • Fucking ace song.

  • Only an American can fuck up the title by translating 'luft' to 'red' XD

  • @mhrreplicacarbon and how you would have translated it?

  • @agro0 i'm norwegian, but understand that luft means AIR...

  • @Piebastard yeah, but you didn't answered my question. Luft means air, that's true. But you can't translate it with airballoons, because airballoons are the one you can fly with, not the ones you can blow up. ergo balloon is the right translation, but if you only use "99 balloons", it doesn't fit to the beat. Hence 99 red balloons is a fine translation, and of course you use it then in the title as well ;)

  • so beautiful translation, kudos to the original it rules too.

  • Dnload the audio from this video at searchripgrab doht cohm.

  • yes german sound really better as all

and i think the orginal is the best

  • German is alot better

  • Grandma NENA is still simply great !

  • artists singing in a local language are always asked to supply versions in English of their hits.

  • in the german version 99 red balloons caused 99 years of war ;=)

  • god I LOVE THE 80'S I wish artist these days would take a few pointers on how to sing and entertain the world with great music and actual singing.

  • @wilkomono ah yes id agree but the sad fact is artist today (specialy justin b.) are heavly funded with corprate fraud to make money back then it was to get a point accross to the world now its to make money so no one gives a flying fuck.

  • Chaos theory. (A butter-fly flaps it's wings... etc) Before the phrase was coined. Nena! You are seriously cool!

  • @Booksandvideos, 'Deutschland über alles' hasn't been the German's national anthem since Hitler was in power.

I think this is a good song whatever language its in.

  • i remember **sniff* when i just heard this song...sniff* i love **sniff* sniff*

  • After listening to the German version twice this version is too slow!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!

  • By the way, did the "you" that was repeatedly mentioned die? Might be a stupid question, but I'd like to know.

  • Man, the English version does sound forced. Deutsch über alles!

  • @booksandvideos Really? Huh. Am I strange? I thought the German version sounded forced, but that was probably because I didn't know what she was saying... ^ ^;

  • @CelestialBlueFire13 Maybe that's the problem. I actually know German, so maybe it sounds better for me. But the lyrics are totally different in each version. It bugs me.

  • @booksandvideos

Well, its either the lyrics be different and it keeps the general rhythm and a sense of rhyme or you do a literal translation and lose it completely.

  • <--------------CLICK MY USER-NAME and find someone to share this song with...You know you want to!!!!

  • This song brings back memories of the cold war era in Germany. In some ways the collapse of the wall & communism caused economic & social problems for the people of the former West Germany.

  • @njneopatriot Shut up gramps.. Lol joking xD

  • @Nyrillia

Habe damals schon drüber nachgedacht und bin zur Überzeugung gekommen, das man Frieden schon im Kleinen praktizieren sollte, denn schon eine Schlägerei

ist schon ein Krieg im Kleinen.

Nehmen wir uns ein Beispiel an Gandi,Martin Luther King und aber auch an Jhon Lennon.

  • heiauf der suche nach jemanden der mich von meiner andauernden einsamkeit erlösen kann

  • better in german !!!!

  • insomnia......

  • you and i in a little tour shop. not toy shop!

  • @nunya1051 Why so insistent? Is there a chance you are mistaken? First, what is a tour shop? Second, it seems that a toy shop is the perfect place to buy a bag of balloons. I think it's a toy shop, so there :-P

  • @alachabre You are right. She sings TOY shop. because thats the place to buy 99 red balloons:) and if anyone doesn't believe use google and search for the lyrics.

  • That's your opinion and it is incorrect.

  • German Title: 99 Luftballons

Is in german, french and english avaible and the translations are very nice, so you can say that every version is correct =) but german sounds better as all

  • I only have known the german vesion, yet. I have to admitt that the english one is not bad at all. The German text is better though. But it was written in german to start with.

  • I have only known the original german version, yet.

It does sound not so bad at all in engish, though the german text is abit better,

But may be, it is just cause i am german.

  • @Discjoggy Fuck the Nazis and have a good day :D

  • Comment removed

  • I love how well the English translation of this song preserves the meaning of the German version.

  • personal favorite song

  • haha grand torismo musik!!

  • i love the pop of the 80´s and the rock of the 90´s!

  • The english version is just horrible.

  • i definitely agree, the original version is so much more meaningful than this one, and its more accurate, this is just an extremely rough translation for english speakers

  • ELMO!

  • MANON LUCHTBALLON

  • 99 words for boobs

  • omg ive heard this song

  • everyone loved Nena until she raised up her arms.

    haha those darn germans (:

  • @ Fredengh:

Thanks for the info. I enjoyed reading it. Great song as well. It's definitely worth listening to.

  • Nena never had another hit single outside Continental Europe and Japan, and therefore, is considered to be a very successful one-hit wonder artist in both the U.S. and the UK. Channel 4 placed "99 Red Balloons" at #2 in their countdown of the 50 Greatest One Hit Wonders, while VH1 placed it at #16 on 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders of the 80s. VH1 also put it at #73 on VH1's 100 greatest songs of the 80's.

  • The song came during a period of escalating rhetoric and strategic maneuvering between the United States and the Soviet Union in the Cold War. In particular, its international chart success followed the United States deployment of Pershing II missiles in West Germany in January 1984 (in response to the Soviet deployment of new SS-20 nuclear missiles), which prompted protests across western Europe.

  • He thought about what might happen if they floated over the Berlin Wall to the Soviet sector.[3]

Both the English and German versions of the song tell a story of 99 balloons floating into the air, triggering an apocalyptic overreaction by military forces. The music was composed by Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen, the keyboardist of Nena's band, while Karges wrote the original German lyrics.

The band recorded the English version even though they felt meaning was lost in translation.

  • "99 Luftballons" is a Cold War-era protest song by the German singer Nena. Originally sung in German, it was later re-recorded in English as "99 Red Balloons". 1983.

While at a Rolling Stones concert in Berlin, Nena's guitarist Carlo Karges noticed that balloons were being released. As he watched them move toward the horizon, he noticed them shifting and changing shapes, where they looked nothing like a mass of balloons but some strange spacecraft.

  • why the rhythm and melody could be so light and quick that opposite to the topic the lyrics tell ?

  • ya... watever u said

  • wow is kinda sad i like this song

  • what year is this from

  • 80's motha fucka.

  • i thought it was panic boys its red alert?
