This was and still is my jam....it should have been released as a single. That song was bangin....the voice...the voice...the voice...the one and only voice of an angel.
I remember that they would play this on the quiet storm when she came out with the I'm Your Baby Tonight album. I could not understand why they didn't put this out as a single. Her voice was INCREDIBLE!!! Whenever I play this song people are always asking me if that is Whitney. Her voice had so much power and clarity. She was a musical diety.
@LohengrinT Whitney doesn't need to re-learn how to use her voice, she KNOWS how it works, it just needs to heal and become stronger like you said. Hopefully with the recent news that she's trying to quit smoking which seems to be the main vice to its efficiency she'll be back to singing and SANGIN. Love this lady. :)
whenever a muscle changes the brain must re-learn how to use it... it is the creation of new neuromuscular connections, amazing matter in physiology that always has its limitations. I didnt imply she has forgotten to use it but it is like she has a new thing inside her throat.
It is a very often mistake in opera singers to deny to re-learn their voices when those change
@LohengrinT My point is that her voice is damaged and it needs to heal as much as is possible before she can even think about strength training or anything. If you're a runner and you break your leg, it needs heal first before you can run again. Whitney knows when her voice is there and when it is not, she just needs to quit abusing it so that it can heal. She's not no opera singer either, singing classical music. It's very different. She just needs a healthier voice to work with.
@LohengrinT I don't think so, it's much more Shirley Ceasar or Cissy Houston than Leontyne Price. Yeah there are obvious operatic flairs to her singing (that head voice), but it is PREDOMINANTLY rooted in gospel, everything she does. And the last time I listened gospel ain't sound nothin like opera.

@Chimier I understand, I'm not tryin to give him no hard time or anything, he's just over thinking it, over analyzing her voice, she ain't no opera singer and never has been. Whit just needs a healthier voice to move around her songs, and I know that's all she wants. I'm not in opposition to vocal science but it don't have to be that complicated. She just gotta quit that smokin and her voice will heal up a bit, and she'll work with what's left, as she's always done, that's how she do it.

Aretha was talking about having to warm up her voice after her surgery and get the muscles working again since they hadn't been in use for a while and that makes perfect sense. So he's definitely right about that, I read too far into his statement. I tend to do that.

Its funny, I had the last 2 mins of this track as a recording on tape and I must have been really dense because I knew it was whitney singing, but I couldn't be sure. Then I wasn't sure of the track title, talk about brain malfunction. So It took almost 2 decades to finally hear the full track. Here and now... today! What can I learn from this, I hear you ask?
