I adore this soundtrack. But it is fair to say that Daft Punk did not compose it, it is a mix of many maasterpiecesings that they have simply re-orchestrated. People often mention Zimmer, but not only. This Adagio is great but it is merely a modern version of some masterpieces, most notably the Lacrimosa of W.A. Mozart

I absolutely LOVE the subtle electronic cue to Rinzler in the background starting at 2:32. The music here literally sets the character and his heroic sacrifice but forced transition into a villain.

And seeing as Clu had Flynn's sense of irony, prankish streak, and vindictive tendencies without the mitigating factors of compassion and love...No mercy would be present. What better way to break his creator than to take the closest friend he would ever have and twist him into a parody of what he stood for? Clu was savvy enough to conclude the same thing Master Control did - destroy the Champion and break the User, and victory was certain.

The fall of CL.U., who envied his creator but could not be him, the Prodigal Son, "Somehow I expected more" - C.L.U. on Sam, Quorra being from that different plane, the legacy of the computer geniuses now with people who grew up with them (See Steve Jobs) Tron giving himself up, and then finding his purpose again, beautiful.

I listen to it and it really could fit a wide variety of movies (Unlike the original Wendy Carlos score, which seemed tailor-fit to Tron), while the other nominees for the awards were very specific to their respective films.

@kham2914 For the record, I can't stand Hans Zimmer's music scores, because they all sound stylistically similar (beyond the use of horns and strings, I mean the POTC scores sound just like Batman which sounds just like Inception). Daft Punk's score sounds very distinctively like Zimmer, with the same repetitions of certain phrases, that constant drumming of the strings in the background, etc. The only real difference between them is that Daft Punk throws synthesizers into the mix.

@kham2914 I think to really get what I'm saying about the score not being unique, listen to some of Elmer Bernstein's film scores, particularly To Kill a Mockingbird and Ghostbusters, and how both scores are completely different, but suit their respective film so well. There are plenty of other films that have unique, identifiable scores as well- American Beauty, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Social Network, True Grit, just to name a few.

@kham2914 I say that because Carlos' original score produced an extremely unique sound for the music that sounded new and different at the time and matched the visuals of the film perfectly- the mix with synthesizers and traditional instruments (especially the way she did it) was new for that time, when I can't really hear anything here that makes it distinctively stand out among the multitudes of other scores out there.

Tron, created by Alan Bradley(Bruce BoxLeitner) to defeat Master Control. An unyeilding program without doubt/reflection or hesitancy(fortunately he fought for the users). Saved flynss ass more then once and converted to the drone "Rinzler" by CLU in his attempt to save Flynn one last time....

Tron's a computer program, so he just got "repurposed" to serve CLU, as did all the other programs. He kind of broke with his programming right at the very end, to "fight for the users" once more. Tron is one of those movie franchises that really doesn't need to explain clearly its concepts, because the whole premise is ridiculous from the outset, but the viewer already knows that in advance, so they are O.K. with it in this case.
