I did a lot of digging too, myself. I dug a hole, twenty by forty, and four feet deep, before I rented a backhoe for a day. Then more hand digging, and then another day with the backhole. I got the finished pool, down to a depth of twenty five feet. I ended up using poured concrete, and tiled the interior with Italian quarry tile. It turned out good, and this was in 1984. Still using it today. But, yes, I studied vinyl pools. You did it right!

Did you use a laser level ? Or should I say how did you measure everything. Am I right when I say you found the job of getting the excevation the hardest part to get right ? I'm afraid if I might dig it wrong. What do you estimate for your tolerances on measurments ? Is the liner forgiving ? Does it stretch enough to cover up mistakes ? I do stuff myself as well and my biggest concern is that fail on the dig :) Awesome job!

@metropool Not sure why everyone assumes I didn't put in a footer. At 3:$5 you can clearly seem a cement truck and me running around with a wheel barrow filling it in.. 12" collar all the way around. As for the plumbing - it was installed per manufacturer directions. The braces actually had channels for the pipes. How could I get a permit and pass inspection with no footer?
