What a stunning performance. Judy with a golden voice, so pure and beautiful beyond words. To be born with such a voice, that truely amazing gift of an extremely beautiful singing voice that she had from the beginning. The female singers of today (even ones who are considered folky) do not have a voice like this. Not saying that there aren't good female folk singers today, but just not of the same caliber of talent.
It was in and out of the back of my mind when I was enjoying the version sung by the Soggy Bottom Boys (actually they just pretended to sing it, really Tyminski, Allen and Enright) in Oh Brother where art thou?
I knew there was a maid or a girl of constant sorrow, thought of Joan Baez, and found Judy, and now I think the way she sings it here is what I best remembered.
Can you imagine having THAT voice in your throat?

Just beautiful. Judy Collins must have been about 21 or 22 here, but her great talent is already evident. Thanks for sharing!

@meltzerboy For the record, she was about 26 when she first let her hair grow down to this level . . .

@betahifi Thanks for the info. I believe her first commercial album, Maid of Constant Sorrow, was made about five years earlier.

My favourite version of this is by Peter, Paul and Mary. I don't find it on Youtube, though.
Good-bye, dear Mary. You are missed.

This sure brings back memories. We were all young once.
The trinity for me was Judy Collins, Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. Got me thru my teenage angst, such that it was.
