if this was to be classed it would be called "mississippi hill country" blues - in that it's RL burnside's song and he's from that region, but his style was very much his own
as far as i remember - most of the blues in the film was based off of stuff by burnside and mississippi fred mcdowell
ive been playin the blues for 40 years it is what it is. like it or not it is the pain we all live every day. transformed into our feelings threw music.
I have a question. After watching this movie, i've been quite interested in blues. What kind of blues would this be considered, and does it actually sound like this?
@HakumeiHogosha If you're really interested, go back and start with Robert Johnson...back in the early 20's. Then follow up through now. So many great artists, types...Delta...which is what this is. Try Chicago Blues...Try listening to Joe Bonamassa (one of today's greats IMHO). Try some Stevie Ray Vaughn, both of these guys great for today. Listen to some Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, so many good artists, not enough space.
@HakumeiHogosha this is mississippi delta blues. you can google and wiki delta blues, i think that's what you need. i see most people didn't address your question correctly!
@HakumeiHogosha This character played by Samuel Jackson is based on RL Burnside...and it's a strong lineage of Mississippi Delta blues you are lookin for...RL Burnside learned from Mississippi Fred Mcdowell

@HakumeiHogosha North Mississippi Hill Country Blues, my friend. Check out RL Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Mississippi Fred Mcdowell, and theres a new band called the Black Keys that you've probably heard of, one of their early albums is entirely dedicated to Junior Kimbrough. Also watch the film You See Me Laughin': Last of the Hill Country Bluesmen. It's on youtube.
@HakumeiHogosha This that North Hill Country Blues. If you like this then may I suggest to you R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Mississippi Fred Mcdowell, Model T Ford. Fat Possum is a good Record Label to check out.

Hmmm. I'd suggest probably Lightnin' Hopkins or John Lee Hooker. Also look into Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside--the man who originally played this song.
Interesting tidbit: Samuel L.'s backing blues band in this movie was comprised of surviving family memebers from the aforementioned Kimbrough and Burnside families.

Also, check out North Mississippi Allstars, they are closely related to RL and he even used to play with them a lot when he was still alive. :)
