  • now thats cool

  • Great Lesson, Tab ist o.K., but the notation is wrong.

  • That was great. I just wish I could zoom in on just the frets and finger scales for this. Can you make that possible? Thanks

  • @BillyD937 Thanks, I posted the notation at ShareOutLoud (see link in video comments). I would be hard to zoom in on just the left hand without losing video quality, but the tablature at ShareOutLoud should help. Maybe down the road I can record a separate video that focuses on that part. Thanks for your interest.

  • something to be said about something sounding simple but theres always more than meets the eye when it come to a classic run...thats what makes it a classic...

  • @belikewater001 Thanks for your kind comment. The tabs seem to print ok in Firefox and Chrome, but not sure about Internet Explorer. There are new enhancements to ShareOutLoud every day, so stay tuned and hopefully that can be added.

  • pretty good. :)

  • excellent video lesson, I am working on improving my Carter style & I know this and your tab will help Steve

  • @sjeter61 Thanks! I'm glad it helped. Feel free to post any licks or tunes that you know on Lessonshare.

  • Thanks for posting this lovely old tune, I struggle with all these tunes and you could not have shown it any clearer. 10/10

  • @wbottle Thanks a lot... you're welcome. Be sure to check out the tablature (link in video description) for more info on this and other lessons.

  • question for you

I had to re-learn this song the way you play it as I was taught to play it in a normal D-C-D-C-Am-D

    heres the question:

have you seen this or am I one of the few that play it that way, and I got my version form a cd put out by Jody Stecher who was teaching it

its the same way with another tune I play of his he plays Arkanasas Traveler out of D as every one else plays it in C

oh and thanks for putting up these videos at least now I can fit in on a jam LOL!!

    Paul

  • Paul, this is a very old song with many variations, so don't feel like you have to re-learn anything. This is just one way to play. I've seen D major version as well, and also A minor versions. It's a modal song.

For Arkansas Traveler, it's common for fiddlers to play it in the key of D. So you'll see guitar players either play it in D, or play it in C and capo up.

Glad you're enjoying the vids. Make sure to check out the tab on the website.

  • thank you sir

for now I can play both in D and Dm

almost makes me feel like I'm good LOL!!

now I'm off to learn your Sugarfoot Rag lesson

the guys at the jam session are going to start thinking this kid is good but I'll tell them its all you once more thatnk for helping an old bass player fit in on the guitar

    Paul

  • sounds good !!!

  • Thanks, the tab helped me out a lot. Just have to figure out the alternate picking and additional strums that you threw in during the video.

  • That was realy cool. Has a neat bluegrass/celtic sound. Dm and F chords I'm guessing from watching. I wish you could take it slower and explain.

  • Thanks! It's actually Dm and C. This is just the video, but I posted a more detailed lesson of this tune at Lessonshare (see video description).
