For instance rhyming down with now and now with now or saying yeah, suck my dick bitch, and nigga 500 times in a song, not to mention having the same repetitive drum beats and 1 to 3 note bass lines. Not really. Both bands started in '81, technically, but Overkill was just a cover band until 1983 when they released their first album, same as Metallica.
The difference is that Metallica had already released several demos. Their first was Power Metal, released in '82.

For instance rhyming down with now and now with now or saying yeah, suck my dick bitch, and nigga 500 times in a song, not to mention having the same repetitive drum beats and 1 to 3 note bass lines. I was just responding to the same idiot kid who makes distinctions between "real metal" and something else (lb, in this case). who needs to say that something is not genre X implicitly makes the assumption that he recognized it as belonging to genre X. so the problem is theirs (or yours, if you are one of them too), I really don't care about genres but just about bands.

I disagree. Black Sabbath started an entire genre and Metallica took it a step further in thrash metal. They carved the paths for metal bands then and now. Korn and Limp Bizkit fell of the face of the earth.
There aren't bands out there modeling themselves after these guys. If they are, they should stop.

Not really. Both bands started in '81, technically, but Overkill was just a cover band until 1983 when they released their first album, same as Metallica.
The difference is that Metallica had already released several demos. Their first was Power Metal, released in '82.
Also, don't mean to hurt your feelings or anything, but Overkill was never really that good.

Maybe Metallica & Megadeth have had up and downs in thier music carrier, but thier music is way betther than Iron Maidens. How often do you hear Iron Maiden in the radio when your driving = Nerver. Wes Borland, guitarist of LB is one of the most creative guitarists of the past decade and Fred Durst is ranked at #71 on Heavy Metal's All-Time Top 100 Vocalists.
