  • Question: I've noticed that the LAFD doesn't seem to use suspenders on their pants. Do they wear a more light-weight form of bunker pants that allows them to do this without their pants falling down?

  • @abzvinny318 our turnout pants are the same, some just choose to cinch the adjustable straps on each side.

  • @LACITYFIRE68

Thanks for the reply. Must be nice having pants that fit you near-perfectly around the waste. Haha. Then again, you're in a big city and I'm in a small town. :P

  • guys, if your an LAFD firefighter, are you expected to work on the ambulance? Also are you certified to EMT-B or CFR? Just curious as the department I hope to get on is only certified to CFR and their EMT service is separate.

  • @JMackin88 All firefighters are at least EMTs. And dual function firefighter/paramedics work on the ambulance and on a engine/truck. EMT/FF also will work on BLS ambulances "800 series rescue"

  • I hope this goes on air. Hopefully it lives up to Emergency!

  • LAFD FINEST

  • Inspiring stuff!

  • There are a few documentaries I would like to see on TV, the Detroit one, as well as the LAFD are among the few. Stay safe out there brothers.

  • Would love to see this!

  • Looks amazing. finally a show that makes people aware of what it's like to be a fireman. And not like the "rescue me" series. Real patients. Real situations. Perfect. Can't wait.

  • Incredible! Nice job

  • That first song sounds like Avatar

  • god bless

  • thumbs up if like siren by federal signal, streamlight survivor flashlight, bullard helmet, scott scba, etc, etc, etc, Thumbs up if like be a firefighter!

  • so awesome!

  • @EngTWOine

It's called "The island awaits you" by Steve Javlonsky

  • whats song is this????

  • @uyl1

Which one? That last one was "My name is Lincoln" from Steve Jablonsky

  • Every time I watch this, I get teary. It is about time this gets aired.

  • It's nice to know, no matter the economic problems, that we have people that WANT to do this kind of profession!!!

  • FDNY and LAFD are 2 of the best companies in the nation. The FDNY lost many of theirs during 9/11. They still fight each day to save lives. The LAFD, each summer are fighting wild fires that could easily burn to NYC if it the fire department wasnt there.

  • Name song??????

  • @exfb64 Station 9 is city fire... How do you share a radio with them for your emt job city fire stations have their own boxes and county has their own frequency...

  • The music just pulls this video together! Awesome!!

  • hello , about this movie , it will be on the cinemas?? .

  • @Marine7R3 no, they suck.

  • i am currently in the process of getting on the elgibilty list for my towns department and this is the best fire department in the country and the best fire station in LA

  • Love it! In my firehouse we have a lot of medical emergencies too... But, time to time we do also have some fire to keep it up xD

Does anyone know the name of music? Think is wonderful!

    Greetings from Estoril, Portugal

    Keep it going!

  • just read the vid information:

"All of the music is from the movie: The Island. The first part is the song called "The Island Awaits You", the second is "Renovation", and the last part is "My Name is Lincoln".

    be safe

  • umm do you guys even know how to read it says right there they are the busiest fire fighters in the US yet they don't usually fight fire they help the people in that part of the city.

  • @megatopakage word!

  • hey!

does anybody know where to watch that film?

    greetings from Germany!

  • Year FIRES they have more medic calls....rescues....accidents,

  • LAFD Is Best! ISO CLass 1!

  • this video lies

the fdny are the busiest fire dep. in the us they respond to more fires than chicago la and philidelphia departments put together

  • @xXWETOTALLYRAPEXx not medical calls, station 9 is buisiest with calls period, i work in the area as an emt we share the same radio frequencey, and they are always going off....its crazy shootings at 0500 with 6 pts.

  • must really be sh*tty for the guys on the engine, spending 4 minutes on scene of a med run.......... I feel bad for the guys on the squad that have to transport.

  • is this movie out yet? and does any one know of any good firefighter movies/shows out right now or older ones?

  • get some lafd!!! gotta give them props for what they do day and night and never complain. :)

  • Comment removed

  • does a film to this trailer exist or was it just a project?

  • No time for cooking and working out! :)

  • they seem busy cuz they fully man the truck and pump and all the apparatus run seperate eng. pump. truck. als. als2.

  • Haha, 64's, Yeah there Always Out, So is 66's on Slauson.

  • task force 64 on structure no time to eat have 66 keep the food warm for us

  • Hey !! Nice Vid. !!

What´s the name of the soundtrack ??

    Greetings from Germany !!

    Fire Station Waldniel  -> lz-waldniel . de

  • I must say on a 10 run night work, this sure kept me motovated........thanks

  • Phoenix of course with a Sam brown shield. By the way, I do not believe NYFD was ever an ISO rated Class 1 department. In fact they are not even close. Buttom line, live in LA and you have a much greater chance of having your structure saved from a fire, live in NY, you have a much GREATER chance of losing your structure from a fire. The choice of where it is safer to live is obvious. LAFD CLASS 1!

  • with all due respect and dont get me wrong both are GREAT departments, but i do beleive NY has a great percentage of older dried out buildings then LA does which would account for the fact that they burn more, not to mention fdny has more working fires everyyear then 3 major us cities combined, la being on of them, and leather helmets are not standard issue, morning pride is, leathers are optional and in my opinion much better hten those bicycle helmets that are the alternative, my 02, stay safe

  • Who cares if NYFD goes to more fires. Any department that wears leather helmets and black turnout gear is obviously 50 years behind everyone else.

  • What kind of helmet do you use?

And hey, the turn out gear is made the same, who gives a crap about the color?

  • first of all dumbass its FDNY not NYFD and they wear leather helmets because its tradition and they are just as safe as plastic ones and their turnout gear is the same as everyone elses its just a different color, there are hundreds of departments that wear black.

  • What a wonderful video, showcasing the work our men and women do on the front line of the LAFD.

It is videos like this that really hit the heart of people showing what these heroes do every minute of every day, of every year - putting their lives on the line, and at the end of the day they aren't doing it for the money, but for what it means.

One thing with our heroes, they can be there when you most count on them!

Once again, what a wonderful video!

  • Wonderful choice in music! Great video! FDNY goes to way more fires. Too bad they didn't include some of the fires 9's goes to (we do go to our share on the west coast).

  • that was dope, im working on being a fireman like my dad in cali and this video is what ill be working for

  • There's a new edited vid for Station 9 on the Station 9 blog. I guess YouTube doesn't allow url links.

If you want current updates and behind the making of Station 9, then e-mail Adelante films to request a link for the newly created Station 9 blog!!!! A final presentation is occurring this week for an interested companyt. So let's hope that it goes thru!!!

  • the project didnt fall through it was juss on hiatus for a while..adelante film&tv has started a blog on station 9 project since it has been back to life as it will explain if you check it out, they also put up a new edit video on that site called San Julian, itz really great, id recommend anyone who likes this to go check it out and show some support for this project =)

  • vids like these got me through my explorer academy

  • Some of you have no respect for the men and women who risk there lives every day for some or no pay, think about this.Someday you may be in some sort of fire or dieing and guess what, the FD will show up and have to save you and if you don't like them fine but your an ass it you disrespect the FD.

  • Come again???

  • am i reading this right...do u think this project is shit bro???

  • i thought the bussiest fd is in nyc

  • Busiest station is station 9 at LAFD. FDNY has the largest municipal department.

  • It IS busy, plewb! Just depends!

  • FIREFIGHTERS ROCKS....but Cops are like Monday's....everyone hates them. And besides, god made firefighters so cops would have someone to look up to. Fire, the way you walk, and talk, really sets me off....like a full alarm.......Fire.....come on now...FIRE!!!!

  • This was an intro made for a proposed firefighter reality show that fell through. I guess us firefighters are just not as cool as cops...seeing that there are hundreds of Cops shows. I guess people would rather be entertained by cops beating the crap out of people than us firefighters helping people. This video is awesome and makes me proud to be a firefighter.

  • thats not wat cops are they help people too so shut up

  • Actually, it's the location. I've e-mailed Adelante a second time, and Skid Row is still the main concern with networks.

No way are they letting this project die easily. Adelante is very determined to get this on air. So there's still hope.

  • IS the documentary actually out?

  • Nope. We just have this trailer for now....

  • AMAZING VIDEO! I watch this video everytime I need some extra motivation and it definantly helps!

  • BEYOND COOL! And I'm an LAFD Wife...4 times over....

  • What song is in the intro?

  • Copy+Paste from video description...

The first part is the song called "The Island Awaits You", the second is "Renovation", and the last part is "My Name is Lincoln"

  • any info on documentary? I would really like to see it.

  • E-mail Adelante Films for updates. I did a few months back. They came close a few times with some major networks. Yet it's been very tough. I've been told that there are reservations about filming in the skid row areas. I haven't e-mailed lately. But you should! Show your support. They'd appreciate it, because they are still working very hard to get this on air!!!!

  • sounds good, thanks

  • @colton123FTW123

Yeah i would love to see this too. Anyone know how we can help or where we can show our support?

  • Good Job

  • where can we watch the full documentery?

  • Where can I find the full documentary of this?

  • I read some of LA County Fire guys comments before he removed them. I am sorry but I kind of agree with him. We would not be making a video of a Fire Company that runs Medical jobs all day long. We ranked in the nation "busiest companies top 10" last year when I was on Squad 252 and we see a lot of fire and go on our fair share of jobs like this, but only 3 maybe 4 a day. I don't know, I would not want to do that all day long, guess its a West Coast thing. Stay safe

  • LAcoFIREguy, where is this "non-stop" firefighter engine company at, that you work on?

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry, but dont have control on how they rate busy stations. I was once an explorer for the County of Los Angeles Fire Dept. I once too thought like you, LA is just another city in the county. Not until you have been in these guys can you talk smack. Busting balls to each other in the fire house is one thing, but talking smack about something you know nothing about is another.

  • Comment removed

  • Well, I'm sure your grandfather and father would not be happy to hear you talk about the dept. they worked for for so long. Be safe.

  • You too!

  • Comment removed

  • Dear LAcoFIREguy, I was sitting here and reading your comments. I just think its a shame that one member of a fire dept can bring such discredit to the dept., as you have. I know many members of your dept, that is if you are a LACOFD firefighter, and we all have an equal respect for each other. I have been on the job now for about 5 years, not much time. Most of my time has been at station 9. Great place to work, some of the best people i have ever met work there.

  • Do someone know where to buy this movie or documentary?

    thx for answers

  • One of the Best Videos of Los Angeles Fire Department, amazing!

    Good Work

From a Fire Fighter from Germany

  • I've worked with 9s several times and its lots of fun down there but also a bunch of great fireman. When they run there which is a lot/ all the time they all handle it well and everyone is there because they want to be there. It is a tough place to be because you run all day and then you wake up so many times after midnight. Hats off to 9s.

  • Yeah....cool video anyway, except for "rarely fights fires" bummer! They do go to some fires and "non ems runs" (i.e. stuck elevators, auto fires, false alarms, automatic alarms, etc.) They have slowed down a bit...goooood thing!

  • You want to meet some badass FF's?

Go to LAFD Fire Station 11.

    Guarantee you!

  • Believe me,I would want to fight fires also with all that training. No doubt.

  • These guys rock! No matter what some rival county fireman says..Takes a true good heart to do what they do,where they do!

  • If Eng 33 is busier than that god knows how busy Squad 33 is. All day all night. But I can personally attribute to this and say that 9's has been busier than 33's at times. I get the chance to run with both depts and it is 2 complete different worlds.

  • hi. how is it working at these stations. im just curious.

i was looking for station 9 the other day but i couldnt find it and i wanted too get outa there . i was walking. taking pictures.

im taking my fire tech classes right now. but i was just wondering. how much sleep ya get in these stations ..! omg must be none

  • Great documentation of a great department. To answer the question on 11.7 runs, it is a mathematical statistic or an "average" of runs per day.

  • I can just say: WOW 5*

  • nice man

but how do they can have 11.7 runs?

    you have 11 or 12?

  • is this out on tv or is it now i want dvd´s something more on youtube this is amazing

  • what does he say at :47 ? it sounds like he says 'thats NYC" and whats it mean?

  • He says "the IC". Incident Commander.

  • oh okay cool thanks

  • Soto IC. going off of the streets mentioned there was probably a fire in Batt 7 possibly in 2's first in.

  • I work for Toronto Fire Services, P332, 15 minium calls for a 24 hr shift... around 5000 runs a year!!!!!

    But Fire is Fire.

    Stay Safe

  • 10 responses a day? lol that aint shit, try like 20-28 medical aids a shift! That what L.A. Cities E9 and T9 stats are. My company does 12 to 14 a day and we are like number 12 in the County......

  • i love this video so much. i hope this goes on TV

  • I've seen station 9 in action, best for learning the ropes on emt/firefighter, my stepmom's dad was la city, he transferred to county, a long time ago

  • Great to see this video! I did my Paramedic Intership at this station in 1992. Great experiance and even greater people... Great to see some are still there...Thanks!!!

  • Fire Station 9 runs E9 manned with 4, Engine 209 with 4, Truck 9 with five, Rescue 9 and 209 with two people each that's allot of people in a very small house.

  • That's the house that never sleeps

  • this gets me mad. the bravest firemen and women are trying to make things happen, meanwhile the politicians are walking away and close their eyes. theses dorks wouldnt survive one shift. period!

  • Over 10, by sun up.. try over 40 a day

  • Thank you for posting the songs!

  • Run Stats during the months of July, August & September 2008

    Engine 209 - 14.0 Responses per day

    Engine 9 - 11.7 Responses per day

    Truck 9 - 5.3 Responses per day

    Rescue 9 - 10.7 Responses per day

    Rescue 209 - 9.6 Responses per day

  • where did you get the stats on that?

  • Comment removed

  • First off! You are not even on the job with L.A. City or L.A. County, so I am not your rival. Second, when I was 28 years old I already had 8 years on the job with L.A. County. You are a 28 year old want a be poser. Keep testing buddy you might get on somewhere, but a little advice keep your filthy mouth shut when you get on probation! You're attitude would not fly around here let alone L.A. City. Good luck and keep those dumb comments to yourself! These guys run 99.9% medical aids, real fun!

  • thats kinda sexist, if women wanna join, let them, they know what the dangers are just like men and theres nohing that says they cant do it

  • Sorry I am sexist when it comes to my life. "They know the dangers" ???? Yeah they do and they are selfish and still get on a job they can't do. It is what it is, and I really do not want to fight about it.

  • How the hell do you know what they can or can't do?

People like you are the cancer which plagues all FD's.

  • You are from Canada? LMFAO do you guys even have a real fire department there? You are a student, not even on the job anywhere! Shut the Fuck up want a be rookie! Study harder pal! BLOCKED!!!!

  • I know LAcoFireGuy personally he is not a "cancer" and he is a good guy and more of a firefighter than you will ever be! We all Wish he worked here! I agree 100% with him! Why would you want to run medical jobs al day long, and women on the fire department? We do not have any I can think of on the FDNY, because we actually fight fires! Women work for departments that run medical jobs all day long! They can't hack it places like NYC, Chicago, Baltimore, and D.C. you just do not see them!

  • Yeah you are right! My college degree was in Biology not English! You wish you were American huh? Don't lie, Every body wishes they were American! You are just jealous you live in a cold, snowy shit hole! You can stay in Canada, we do not want anymore illegal aliens!!! I have never met anyone that left the United States to move to Canada. I have met a shit load of French / Canadian idiots that have come into our country legally and illegally! Why do you people come here if you hate us so much?

  • Funny the only school most canadians are going to for firefighting is an online program done in Texas with a 2 week bootcamp... must be some top firefighters up there eh.. dont talk about a fire dept. you know nothing about, when you are not even a firefighter

  • Lol, You are right! I wish I would have become a plumber! You are right I am not a firefighter! I am a 3rd generation FIREMAN. People like you make me laugh, thanks!

  • I am a firefighter/paramedic from Canada, with a degree as well, and I have an immense amount of respect for ALL the emergency services professionals in the WORLD.

Your political argument is extremely biased and misinformed. Canadians do not hate Americans last time I checked we are allies. I personally feel sorry that Americans do not enjoy our superior health, education, financial and social systems. YOU need our resource rich country more than we need yours.

  • We laugh at the guys who attend that 2 week course in Texas. Why? Because they are the ones WITHOUT the job.

TOMANGLIMISSMART makes a good point about Canada. We have a very long and cold winter. This leads to more structure/house fires because lower income individuals resort to additional space heaters and other methods to heat their homes. Have you ever fought a structure fire in a -65 windchill? I have and it makes you appreciate when seasons change and the temperature raises above 0.

  • The guy (TOMANGLIMISSMART) works for FDNY. Last time I checked, it gets cold has fuck in NYC! They have units just to thaw out their hoses. I am a Engineer / Paramedic, with a masters in EMS management. I do not remember learning shit about Canada and their resources in my 6 years of college. Government / Economics, Business, or History!!! What the fuck do you have we need? Snow, Mountains, Trees, Idiots, or maybe gay marriage? enlighten me, please!

  • First off if you read my comments before I have HUGE respect for ALL firefighters. I was also not downplaying your education either just trying to enlighten you that we are highly educated as well and, like you, laugh at that 2 week course. Also, like you, I have pride in my country. We are blessed with resources OIL, beef (Americans consume more Canadian beef then Canadians), power, water, soft wood lumber, non-blood diamonds etc etc. Did I mention OIL? Google alberta tar sands.

  • We are cool! Just be happy you do not work at station 9 in L.A. City! Fuck running 20 medical aids day. We have 4,600 calls a year on our Engine Company and that is busy enough. The funny thing is we are 4th or 5th in run stats. Our busiest Engine is Company 33 in Lancaster. They average 6,800 a year on their engine alone. We have a Quint and Squad that are pretty busy as well, but 33's schools us on run volume! Their station gets 16,000 calls a year! Our station totals 11,000, big difference!

  • Wow! Looks like you guys are really busy thats more calls than my hall gets we average 1,200/year. We would probably have more but just go to cardiac arrests for mutual aid no other med calls. Pretty much just strictly fire/rescue for us. Anyways kudos to you and your department the empathy these guys show in the video is a standard all in our profession should follow.

  • i know what he is saying is wrong.

but dont call uss like we are all stereotypical and ignorant

  • damn right sir

  • By watching them try to get through the tower. For christ sakes when depts have to lower hiring standards so girls can play too makes it unsafe as fire as hiring practices are concerned.

  • Respect to all Firefighters and Paramedics/EMTs.

  • My favorite part is 2:08

  • LAFD Engine 9 is somehting else but check out the nations no.2 busiest station-KENTLAND Station 22, Prince Georges county Maryland.

    100% Volunteer.

  • 0:51 IS MY FAVORITE PART

  • I agree

  • Yea my favorite part is 2:07. Straight from the mouth of the public. LA's finest the COUNITES finest. =)

  • I think this video is lovely. The part I love the most is the man at 2:07, I love how that man is supporting and praising the fire department, it shows real pride!

  • i love these guys! i could NEVER in one million years do there job! these guys are my heros!

  • Everyone go watch the "Smoke Eaters" trailer. It will show some LAFD fires. That will be an amazing video when done. Just type "smoke eaters" in the search

  • I was one of the first 30 people hired in my county for Fire/EMS and the first day of orientation the Chief told us we weren't just hired to fight fire or provide EMS were hired to serve the citizens of the county in whatever fashion they needed at the time, even if it meant we were called to get a cat out of a tree. I am sure these guys were told something similar about LA when they got hired. If you aren't there to serve the citizens then you don't belong in the firehouse!!

  • Well said! 88% of all calls are EMS anyways...

  • 88%...sheesh.... I'd pray for 12% fire....I cant remember the last fire call we went on...damn hoses rot from being stowed all the time....lol

  • Nice... 88% EMS. Wish we had that here in Miami.

  • guys stop nick picking you're not trained just to fight fires. that lil clip inspired even me. To see you picking about who's the busiest saddens me. They never claimed to be the busiest (fire) they are the buisest period. REgardless of call. remember Why you were trained. You guys were trained to fight fires (to save lives) Trained in EMT (to save lives) Train in vehicle and mountain resuce (to save lives) If you were trained to drive a rig and nothing else ..i wouldn't let near me.

  • Mayor, not major, sorry typo >:-)

  • We had that same question yesterday, FDNYSQUAD252 and I were talking about it, That would suck to only run medical jobs all day long. Do they not get fire in LA City or something? why does the major make a engine company go on homeless medical jobs all day long, thats not good, Why even be a fireman if you are doing that all watch? I agree that is a west coast thing I guess. I still love my bros back there, just kind feel sorry for them, they are abused!

  • I hope your kidding about if we get fires in LA. All LAFD firefighters (all ranks) are certified EMTs so why just have them sit around waiting for a fire when they can be out helping the community. If only paramedics were to respond to these homeless calls they would be swamped and overwhelmed, so send out the firefighters. Now back to your fire comment. Los Angeles is subject to wildfires from August to November, plus urban fires in warehouses and apartments.

  • Busiest Fire station in the nation? running medical aids on homeless is not a fire department, thats medical aid department. Why not just send a ambulance, they do not need a engine with hose and water. Oh well.......Be stoked on being a firefighter and running medical aids all day long, y even go through a fire academy? lol Im sorry seems kinda weird to be all stoked on those run statistics.

  • Correct me if Im wrong, but doesn't Engines have medical aids also?

I think all FF's have EMT experience also!

  • have some respect for people, not cool.
