They're Jack's albums, he has every right to sell them in whichever medium he chooses. Obviously enough people have been abusing their privileges in the vault so that it's become a problem. He wants them to go to people who'll appreciate them for what they are, rather than for their monetary investment potential.
I think that people have every right to make a profit by selling the records. It's a cheap way to make money, but they have every right to make it that way. And if Jack White has a problem with it, should he not have a problem with cheating his fans out of their money? I don't see any difference between what jack white is doing and what Trent Reznor did with the Ghosts box set. think about it, these guys don't pay anything to get into Mr. White's Record Pool (yes, it's known as a record pool, and yes it's been done MANY times before by MANY other labels) Trent literally GAVE the album AWAY for FREE. and if you wanted the box set then well, hey, you PAY (a lot) for it. i don't see why this is any different, music scalpers will get it from torrent anyway.

I like what Jack White is doing... to an extent. I think artists should be making SO much more money than they do. Piracy and bootlegging, whatever you do, is very unfair to the artists because they should be making money off of those things. BUT, it is a douche move because it seems like a ploy to make more money. People have every right to buy it, turn it around and sell it themselves. So it depends on how you look at it. I think its fair to the artists but not so much for the consumers
@Ixelixes as an artist who has been a part of both major and indie labels in the past, i can say that most artists make less than 20% of their income based on actual sales of CD's and around 5 - 10 % on royaltys, most of the money comes from touring (Ticket sales and merchandise) and sponsorship or endoresments, piracy really doesn't hurt anything but the label (which unfortunately in a lot of cases makes the artist) with that said, all together that 30% is still thirty percent.

I don't see why anyone would have an issue with what jack white did besides the flippers which are basically making money for doing no work. He's actually selling it to fans for probably less money in the long run which is what the records are intended for, not resellers.

@MFINN23 Very good point - even if Jack is making fortune, he's doing a hell of a lot more work than the people who simply click buy and then punch an extra digit into ebay and sell it. If those people want to make a profit, they can prove themselves as talented musicians, and then I'll pay them any day.

I don't see any difference between what jack white is doing and what Trent Reznor did with the Ghosts box set. think about it, these guys don't pay anything to get into Mr. White's Record Pool (yes, it's known as a record pool, and yes it's been done MANY times before by MANY other labels) Trent literally GAVE the album AWAY for FREE. and if you wanted the box set then well, hey, you PAY (a lot) for it. i don't see why this is any different, music scalpers will get it from torrent anyway.

I like what Jack White is doing... to an extent. I think artists should be making SO much more money than they do. Piracy and bootlegging, whatever you do, is very unfair to the artists because they should be making money off of those things. BUT, it is a douche move because it seems like a ploy to make more money. People have every right to buy it, turn it around and sell it themselves. So it depends on how you look at it. I think its fair to the artists but not so much for the consumers

@Ixelixes as an artist who has been a part of both major and indie labels in the past, i can say that most artists make less than 20% of their income based on actual sales of CD's and around 5 - 10 % on royaltys, most of the money comes from touring (Ticket sales and merchandise) and sponsorship or endoresments, piracy really doesn't hurt anything but the label (which unfortunately in a lot of cases makes the artist) with that said, all together that 30% is still thirty percent.

Look, I cant say Im a fan of Jack White since I barely know any songs that hes made I like the ones I've heard though but thats my fault because I havent really tried to get into any of his music. But Jack White is always being talked about so I end up hearing alot about him as a person anf for some weird reason everything I heard about him had always annoyed me an now I know why. This story shows me that he cares more about money than he does about thel music. Its just one big profit for him!

Maybe it's not really fair that he didn't give these "vault subscribers" first crack, because that's what they pay for; however, I'm seeing a lotta crying over the music just being expensive.
