He was implying it was easy for early man to look at the world and conclude it was created/designed because early man didn't have an answer for why we were here. The watch was a sort of metaphore, showing that an incredible piece of machinery so complex implied a watchmaker, so its easy for us to understand early mans point in history to make the "God" conclusion. But as of course we know now it was evolution via natural selection.

Not many people know there are two types of scientific theory. One is a hypothesis supported by evidence (the one everyone knows) but the second scientific theory is actually a scientific law but a law which cannot be defined as a single statement like the laws of thermodynamics. This scinetific law is complex and cannot be described as a single statement but has the same validity as law, it also is called theory. Thats what theory in theory of evolution means. Its the law of evolution.

Both, some species on the evolutionary tree evolve into another species that is unrecognizable, but some die out all together.

@hellisice A species' ability to evolve past changing conditions does affect it's descendants. Major catastrophic events, like mass extinctions, are catalysts for new species to develop, because the radically changing conditions kill off the variants that cannot survive, giving more space and food for the ones that can adapt and survive. The recognizability, or lack thereof, depends on how radical a change is needed to survive. Hippos and Whales are related, but they are radically different

@Alienmad462 The problem with saying "its only a theory" is that yeah, its a theory, but there is alot of evidence to it, and without any more evidence then that is the only real conclusion, thus, it is treated as fact. If more evidence, that irrefutably revokes evolution, or any other theory, such as maybe the big bang theory, that theory would be changed to allow this new evidence. Also people would feel silly.
