  • War should be only a LAST resort to solve differences... Without dialogue how can we be part of the world... This administration isolated us, and we remain isolated. Now he wants to join with the rest of world to "fix" the financial crises... I am glad that these 8 years are nearly over... We got exactly what we asked for and now who pays for it -- we the people.

  • the relevence nismoto is that if the candidates have relatives or even friends in the service then they will have a better sense of empathy for anyone who else who does. Although many are outraged and upset at this war, this is a situation in which it is impossible to truely understand the pain and stress the family of these soldiers go through, unless you yourself have a relative in the war. it TRUELY hit close to home, unless it does exactly that, affect YOUR home

  • * it does not TRUELY hit close to home, unless it does exactly that, affects your home.

  • [Part 3]

War is not wrong because "my daughter is serving and might die". War/invasion is wrong when it is authorized by a fascist or imperialistic regime:

    Vote Ron Paul 2008!!

  • [Part 2]

However, I don't see the relevance in the second part of your question. I do not support all politicians in office nor did I vote for the current President, however, I believe that any of them with the power to make war would not be influenced by how many family members they had serving.

  • [Part 1]

First of all, I would like to say "thank you" to you and your family for your/their service to our country.

I think that the first part of your question was great. When will it finally be over; right there in their face.

  • Politicians all over the world make their decisions and we, the electorate have to comply. To change anything, and in this case the war in Iraq, the people need to be more involved, and maybe in a more revolutionary style. The truth is that the politicians in the U.S. did a good job of removing the dictator but a bad job of not getting out while the going was good. There is no need for your lads to die out there! Send in the politicians families in their on the front-line to see the reality.

  • It was sold as a "new kind of war," and when we started the war, 94% of Americans supported the idea of starting the war to "fix" things.

What was new about this kind of war? Just this, the rest of the title of the war Americans said they wanted, the part everyone forgets now: The title was, as follows: "The never ending war on terror." What don't you all get about the words never ending? Bush and Congress (republicans AND democrats) continue apace and ontrack, whatever they say, otherwise.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.

Ron Paul wants to end the war Yesterday.

  • It is very hard to tell whether it is authentic or not.

  • Lightbulb - Of what are you questioning the authenticity?

    GB

  • The story is kind of dramatic. It reminds me of Lt Dan in Forrest Gump. It didn't tell which war they fought. No pictures on the wall. No names released. I don't mean it is a fake. It could be real. But it's just hard to believe.

  • gary! this is your nephew Tyler, and i just wanted to say that i was watched the debates but sadly i missed your question. I'm extremely proud nonetheless and i believe you phrased the question quite well. Do you know if there is a video of the candidates' responses?

  • Tyler - Thanks for the comments! How's AZ?

I was question 18 at this link.

(wouldn't let me post the URL. will emial.)

Left icon will be my questions.

Right video will be the candidate responses.

    Uncle Gary

  • This is a heartbreaking and incredibly pertinent question. Thanks for putting it so well and for everything that stands behind it.

  • Great question. You have my condolences for your family and my appreciation for what you have done.

  • TB - thanks. GB

  • Yes, we all deserve the answer to both questions, especially Mr. Berry. They should respect him, honor him and his family enough to "honestly" respond. The second question speaks to the commitment our next president will have making the right change happen -- if you don't have a personal family member involved you likely won't have your heart & soul invested like Mr. Berry. Thank you Berry Family for all you've done for our country!!

  • MJ - You got it. Thanks. Gary

  • I hate bush :/ Excellent point BTW :)

  • Concur.

  • So glad you were able to be heard, best asked of all the Iraq questions.

Thank you for you & your family's service to our country.

  • Jo - thanks...It is hard to be respectful of our country and the service of my family with what I have come to conclude is a discredited war.

    Gary

  • I love my country, but fear my gov't.

    Where we are headed....

    Thanks again.

  • When there isn't any more people to shoot back at them...and why the hell does it madder how many of there family member are serving? Its a choose, just because your related to a politician doesn't mean your obligated to serve.

  • Aspra - I you have a relative in danger, you may not be as glib about whether or not you put them there. gAry

  • It shouldn't madder, personal feelings of lived ones should affect your judgment on the safety of the United States, People serve in the military for a reason - they should know what and why they are serving. and that is they had a High political relative they wouldn't affect there judgment on military issues.

  • Aspra - You are right...for those who serve it is a different question.

For those who order those who serve, they need to think twice before wasting lives.

    GB

  • Hey im all for them thinking REALLY hard about it, weather they decide to take action or not, having family members (that you would most likely not want to see go) should not affect your over all decision on the protecting the US.

  • You have a valid point - that leaders should not be biased by their own personal affairs - but you forget the lop-sided nature of the US military. The poor and the powerful do not provide equal service, and this leads to unconscionable recklessness by the latter.

  • Than thats wrong to do so.I would think that if you have such a level in the military or politics that you think of the US, it should be going through your mind constantly "how will this decision affect the country's safety".

  • Aspra, you're a prick..... And learn how to spell.

  • I see that the all totally ignored the 2nd question, now that pisses me off.

  • Yes, I know. I guess I should have stuck to just one question.

  • Excellent point. I would love to see your question asked.

  • Thanks! Guess what? It did get asked, #18...but Anderson did not make them them answer the second part.

  • I was very happy when I saw your video on CNN. I am sure that

you already knew that there could not be a sufficient answer to your question, but at least the question got asked.

  • MLM - You're right. Dodd answered but the others persist in the belief Iraq won't be their problem when I have no doubt W will continue and dump the quagmire in their laps.

  • I agree, it has to be asked.
