  • @43wella also... Hendrix received his first guitar way before he met the Isley Brothers and started playing in their band. If this is your way of saying you like Ernie better than Jimi Hendrix then maybe I can understand that but still..

  • @43wella No offense but are you high?. Look, Ernie influenced ME to play guitar so I know a LOT about him ok. Jimi had his part in influencing Ernie although Ernie never received formal lessons from him (see Arsenio interview). I don't believe for 1 sec that Ernie influenced Hendrix to play guitar. That doesn't even make sense. Ernie was playing little league baseball when Hendrix resided with the Isley family and played with older brothers Ron, Rudolph and O'Kelly. Show me the proof.

  • @mysterybat35: This guy responded to my post too. This cat is trolling As evidenced by his absurd comment. Not to feed into this mess.. as you pointed out the time lines simply don't match up. Ernie, born in 1952 is 10 younger than Hendrix and hadn't yet picked up the guitar when was a sideman for the Isley's which was probably around 1964 or 65'. This guy won't be able to provide one iota a proof to the contrary. SMDH...

  • @kstrat lol

  • This is coming from a man who can say that he KNEW Jimi Hendrix! Way to go!!!!

  • ernie was superb on the showdown & winner takes all albums, this is a great performance by ernie isley

  • Nice Strat. Ernie's best playing was on the 1973 Isley Bros. "3 + 3" album, 1974's "Live It Up" and 1977's "Go For Your Guns" album.

    Electrix

  • @electrixladyland69 Don't forget the Heat is On>

  • @electrixladyland69.. Yeap that is his 3rd Zeal strat. His wife Tracie got his first 2 made for him. not sure about this white one. I wouldn't say his 70's era playing is the "best" but its just different. To me his skills developed even more thru the years. The stuff he has been playing from about '95-present seems to have more harmonics and notebends, etc. what hasn't really changed is his pentatonic solo's... even though they stay the same he makes it sound good everytime!

  • Lol! I remember when I was a child playing one of the Isley Brothers songs and winning! "Hope You Feel Better Love" rythm and lead. I really like Aint I been go Been Good To You Summer Breeze Voyage To Atlantis Climbing Up The Ladder

  • completly underated-this man is the real deal...

  • Wow! Excellent performance.

  • Ernie's so underrated. For a while, Hendrix lived with him and his brothers in Teaneck and influenced him. That;'s what makes this performance so fitting Thanks.

  • Was there at the Gibson Amphitheater in L.A. Incredible show.

  • i was there

  • so i have surfed all over tube for all the other uploads to these Hendrix shows, and this here is the best upload of all, hands down.

  • Jimi lodged with the Isley Brothers and Ernie was just a kid learning from the man himself.......the old magic sure rubbed off

  • @magslyfarnham1 : According to several interviews I read, Ernie pretty much debunks the myth of Hendrix actually showing him anything on guitar. He wasn't even playing guitar yet in the period Jimi lived with them. He sited Jose Feliciano's version of "Light My Fire" as what inspired him to pick up the guitar.

Hendrix was a very important influence later on.

  • @kstrat : you are exactly correct. When the Isley Brothers Performed on Arsenio in 1993 Aresenio asked Ernie Isley if Jimi Hendrix taught him anything..Ernie Isley didn't say no but he said "he taught Marvin".. Ernie said at that time he was in little league baseball.. but since Jimi Hendrix did play with the Isley Brothers in '64 there's no question that Jimi had and influence on Ernie.. Ernie was the one that played the bassline for Its' Your Thing..

  • I have been hoping someone captured this amazing part of the show - saw in St. Louis at the Fox.

  • My Hero

  • Ernie is truly a bless man. He really show up & show out on this song.
