How can you call this man? Hes raised so much money for good causes (i have lost relatives to cancer so i should know!) Seeing his wife die and then deciding to help others, shows compation for others...When i served in the first Gulf War, saw the after effects of a childrens hospital which had been attacked by the Republican Guard, what did i do, train very hard, put a team together and did 180 miles of the Pennine Way, 80lb rucksack, in 12 days to raised money for a childrens charity!
This posh wanker shot a Polar bear through the ankle, he claims now it was in the toe adn it wans't limping. Why do we need toffs like this wasting time, money and risking lives and destroying the environment, what is so good about him? Die soon old man.
Well I have met him,I was climbing Everest this year at the same time and he's a nice guy.You can take it from me, Everest is tough enough in your 20s,nevermind at 64.And he definately doesn't take a "cut" from the money he raises.Even if you don't respect his accomplishments you've still got to repect the amount of money he has raised for charity-£15 million! How else could someone make that size of contribution to society unless they run some massive corporation?I know which one I respect more.
Sad comments kevinleslieedge. I've never met the guy, and probably never will, so I cannot comment. But if you have had to sit and watch a close family member/friend dieing of cancer, you will appreciate the work of the Marie Curie nurses. So good luck to him.
I imagine that on your way from the sofa to the bog and back again you're a much better man and have achieved so much more. Come on give us some examples of why this man deserves your put-downs - what have YOU done with your life that's so superior? What's your gripe with him? Jealous about something by any chance?
so miles off... he gets sponsors to pay for his expeditions, and raises huge amounts of money for cancer charities from doing his expeditions. He makes his own money from the lecturing circuit, and makes no money from the actual expeditions themselves. He has raised almost £15m for his charities throughout his life. and LODGER1941, school parties go up Mount Fuji. I dont think school parties are allowed to go up to 29000 feet. Duh!
kevinleslieedge - I'd love to hear of your experiences climbing Mt. Everest. I trekked to EBC at Christmas (totally unaided) and I respect anyone who makes it that far - never mind the ones who continue up the mountain. You seem to have it in for RF, what's he done to upset you? Living joke? That's probably what you hold in your hand every time you go to the toilet!
dude hes a complete legend, he's still doing his exhibition's after his wife died .i shook his hand once at a talk he did for my mums charity walk and he did that free of charge , your comment is dumb and the -6 proves this.
These days when school parties manage it, it really takes a special person to fail to climb Everest, he is an insiration to old folks everywhere to sit home and watch TV :).............
Failed efforts? what do you call his climb on the eiger, or the 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 continents, or the unsupported trips to both poles? Have you done any of that??? somehow i doubt it.
youre seriously using o's when your barely to camp three? that's absurd...

If you want a fire to go out, you don't fuel the flames. If you want to ignore him why do you insist on putting more coals on the fire? ;op

It made for a good chapter in his biog though.. Castle Coombe needed it! Guys like Fiennes don't "do" the rules that organisations like that require.
