  • I think Vidya Balan might be a better choice... Right age, can pass for a college student or a 30-year-old with equal ease, and can certainly handle the physical aspects. Plus, an Indian actress in a Hollywood action movie would more or less guarantee sold out theatres in India by itself... which is a market Baen has been pretty slow to get into.

  • Basically, I do not give a fu** about who plays her if you can keep HH alive in a series and does not get mushied to some TV-Standards. Personality is way more important than looks.

  • I wish this would happen.

  • Great idea. Good job.

  • Sandrine Holt would make an EXCELLENT choice for Honor Harrington she's tall (5'10) AND she's Eurasian born in London

  • @bookfiend2009 Not really. She looks skinny on Google pics. HH should be well built.

  • When I saw the front pic of Honor Among Enemies, I was like " this looks alot like Claire Forlani." Which is why I believe Claire Forlani would fit the role best.

  • @falarus Ooh, now this I like. Two votes for Claire Forlani!

  • Maybe we're looking at this all wrong here.

What would happen if a new series was done with mostly unknowns who have been well coached?

  • @MrTrailltrader

That would be my first choice by far.

  • I think there are better options the Jolie for Harrington. For some reason I think Nana Visitor could pull off honor really well. She even looks a bit like Honor does on the cover of the first book!

  • @spacehelmetforacow She's a little too old for it, given prolong.

  • @fennecfanatic Fair point.

And as Tron: Legacy shows, CGI isn't *quite* at the point wherte we can convincingly De-Age a celebrity (they managed to make it work by showing young!Jeff Bridges in blurry old video recordings, or by the fact that, as a flawed copy, Clu is *supposed* to seem a bit...off)

  • I'm thinking either Claudia Black, Yancy Butler (WitchBlade TV show from 2001) , or the actress in this trailer who says "someone made a mistake" -- I don't know her name. She actually looks like I Harrington to me. I like Jolie, but she tends to be more over the top than I think the character needs to be.

  • @kseven70 Claudia would be a possibility; Yancy would be a better fit - she's a good enough actress to carry the role .... but I was actually thinking of an actress names Sandrine Holt. She has the looks for it, along with the height; she's on the tall side. But another, more expensive choice would be Kate Beckinsale ... who is probably the best skilled of the actresses listed. Judging by her work in the "Underworld" series of movies, she could easily handle the physical aspects of the role.

  • Whats wrong with AJ as Harrington?

  • oh, ha ha haaa, can't stop laughing, Angelina Jolie as Honor Harrington, I think I'm going to choke if I don't stop this damn laugh, ha ha ha ha!

  • CLAUDIA BLACK as Honor! She already has the look, hair color, series/movie character background (Aeryn Soon/Peacekeeper/Farscape) accent, tough yet soft.

  • I've heard that DW has specifically rejected Jolie as Honor.

  • Rumor has it that Claudia Christian is being considered for Honor Harrington. Dave Weber has a fear (I think its legit) that she'd simply be reprising her role in Babylon 5...

  • Theres only one woman who can play Honor Harrington,,,

    ,,,this woman is famous,,,

    ,,,,The First Lady, Michelle Obama!

    *hehehesnickers*

    YES!

  • @Trailltrader

    She couldn't captain a matinence shuttle. ;)

  • Remember, Honor's mother is oriental in ancestry. The books often mention this. Now commander Hanke is a Winton, so Maybe Mrs Obama there.

  • @Jrschmuke

True. But you mean for books 1,2 and 3- book 4 "Field of Dishonor" is distinctly caucasion.

Must have had facial reconstruction after all the battles or something! ;)

  • @Trailltrader Actually, in one of the stories, the left side if her face needed repair, but don't go by cover art, many artists never have any idea what the actual story pictures.

  • @Trailltrader No, she would play Henke.

  • @Trailltrader Hmm... she'd be great playing another Michelle though. What about Michelle Henke?

  • @Trailltrader She could play Michelle Henke

  • @Trailltrader Just the thought of that makes me want to throw up. I'd expect her to be a bus driver in my city - not the here Honor Harrington.

  • I've heard that Weber has it personal against Jolie, because she used her connections do adopt a child Weber and his wife had been waiting for. That day he stated that Jolie is out of the question where Harrington is concerned.

  • right dorkf1sh.

and the actress must be taller, with lesser sex appeal. Angelina can't play it.

  • I really can't see AJ playing Honor. AJ is way too aware of her own appeal and sensuality to ever be Honor. She just can't turn it off.

  • Very good!

  • Dude- that is very creative

  • Hmm. Perhaps an Honor anime?

  • Yer ive been hanging out for a mini-series on the honorverse for ages it has alot of potential - as long they use bsg for ref

  • How about Jordana Brewster for Honor? Her performance in Annapolis was great...

  • Comment removed

  • BSG its the best source for the cast,

    LOOK Admiral Kane.

exactly this is for me Honor, without the civilian killing and that but she looks so harrington'ish

  • Good job, I'm a fan of this series and I'm really looking forward to see a TV series based on it that is as good as BSG.

  • Angelina as Honor? I'd rather shoot myself in both eyes!

    Nice trailer though ;)

  • Indeed. It was a concept I did using what I had. I planned on doing a better one, but the idea kinda fell off the map.

  • Come on, you can do it! ;)

btw, get your hands on the audiobooks - they might make some nice voiceovers!

  • in space, there is no mercy

  • Hmm I wonder if one of us can get cast as Tomas Theslman or Victor Chachat in the later ones.

  • awe

    some video really cool

  • Sorry, but Angelina Jolie is NOT Honor Harrington. Would be a horrible casting choice.

  • yes, keep Hollywood away from this... nice suprise low budget hit with unknowns that fit the descriptions from the book... just want enough tech to do justice to the already well written story line.... Now Nimitz would be a techno challenge... puppet or cgi ?.... ferocious yet endearing.... hmmmm

  • i have be hoping for a honorverse movie since i discovered david weber books this is like the ulltimant teaser for my hunger

  • Hell yeah!!! Finally can visualize all i've been reading. hehe. i finally see how the impeller wedges and sidewalls? could work. Props man! lol

  • While Jolie could be said to have a strong resemblance to Weber's HH, I think she'd be getting a bit long in the tooth to portray Honor. especially if the film histroy starts (as it should) with Basilisk. Done right this could be a very long running move franchise and Jolie couldn't last.

  • Sweet Idea!!^_^ Props too you for making the vid!

On one hand I would hate to have it turn into one more over done "book-turned-movie". A upside would be that everyone would learn about these great books. A down side?...everyone would learn about these great books! lol

(and then the world would make being a "fan" a pop culture thing, like LOTR and others before it.*_*)

  • Weber HATES Jolie with a passion and doesn't allow fanfic. I'd be careful.

    Conceptually it's not bad.

  • CAn't see why he hates fanfics, but see my comment above about why he's right to hate her.

  • I was also thinking about Angelina Jolie for Honor Harrington, or maybe Natalie Portman. But i prefer to never see this amazing universe in movie, because i'm sure they would make a crap once again.

I better see Honor Harrington in a quality TV show like BSG.

  • I dunno - when I saw Sky Captain I thought it was possible for Jolie to play Honor - but... I'd rather they cast an unknown personally.

    Interesting trailer though.

  • Jolie will have to mature her acting and character protrayal to fit the bill. Has potential, though.

    Who plays Nimitz?

  • Honor Harrington looks young in the book. Not like someone with overdone lip job.

As for Nimitz, I've heard they've got a real Swamp Cat or something to play him.

  • xyo, how about Honor's baby? or haven't read that book yet? By the way, she's married, now. =Stefan=

  • In the 11th book, yes, she's mature. But in the first book, Honor looks "terribly young", as McKeon described her.

And in the pre-series stories, Midshipwoman Honor looks like an eleven year old!

  • xyo, by the way, David Webber has a new series. "Armageddon Reef". I just finished the 2nd book, I'm anxiously waiting for the next! Have you found it?? =Stefan=

  • Jolie would be a terrible choice, Michelle Ryan all the way.

  • No argument with not picking Jolie, that's for sure. I just used her here because of what clips I had at the time.

  • You guys are all wrong.

    Cathrine Bell...nuff' said.

  • well,I consider Garner to be decent (and a hottie :))...and some times in Alias she brought out that coldness that Honor shows in some occasions...

but in terms of appearance I think she is perfect.Angelina might be a good choice too (she is angelina after all and we want excuses to see her on screen :)) but she has not that combination of toughness/sweetness that garner shows in Alias/elektra etc

  • someone can say me when the film can be see at cinema?

  • Im glad some one else thought Angelina Jolie would make a good Honor Harrington! They Look so alike! If you look at...um..cant remember the title of the book and ive read it 10 times..the book with Honor and her eye patch! Angelina and Honor have face structure that is almost identical!

  • Well, I really only used Jolie in this because of the Sky Captain clips. Personally, I'd perfer if they cast an unknown.

  • A half-Asian unknown would be best. But I like Jokie better than Garner.

  • I meant Jolie.

  • Nah, Jokie fits.

  • On wikipedia there's a mention of a possible movie/tv series being produced, starring the actress who played Ivanova in Babylon 5. I don't really care who plays Honor, it would be cool simply for a tv series to come and let non-readers enjoy the taste of Honorverse.

  • yes, but claudian christian (ivanova)has grown old...

I would go for Jennifer Garner.Imagine her with angelina's uniform in sky captain, the eyepatch, and besides she has proven that she can cope pretty well with the hand to hand combat action scenes...oh, and she's TALL!!!

  • Personally, I don't think Gardner's actually a very good actress, (But that's just me). I perfer if they cast an unkown, then it'll be more about the story and less about the actress.

  • I couldn't really think of anyone ELSE who COULD play Honor. I mean.... Could y'all?

  • To see even a beta version of a trailer promotion of the Honor Harrington books is really good. And it is really good, with the few exceptions i see already presented.

  • Dave Weber is eleventy-seven feet tall, and weighs close to half a ton, and he's really really good with a gun. I'd think seriously about showing this trailer to him. He has major problems with Angelina Jolie, to the extent that if she has to be in the movie, the movie just will not get made.

  • Yes I know. This is only a prototype. I totally agree with Weber, and I'd hate to see an actual Harrington movie with Jolie in it. It was just a concept until I get something better made. (with a different actress).

  • As far as I know, it's because she abused her fame to adopt a child from africe immediately, while Weber and his wife had to wait. If I were them, I'd be angry too.

  • I loved the video! However, i don't know if you know this or not but David Weber can't stand Angelina jolie.

  • There's a great line of dialog spoken by Mira Furlan in the B5 ep "Severed Dreams" in her Harrington-esque soprano:

"If you value your lives, be somewhere else." Would make a good voiceover.

  • Angelina Jolie just seems...i guess for lack of a better word...too immodest for Honor Harrington.

  • Yep, that's pretty much what I was thinking as I made this, but this is really more of a beta using what I had at the time. I plan on using someone alot better in the final version.

  • oh by the way, i didnt mean that harshly in anyway...i actually think the whole thing is pretty cool. but it seems to me the real problem is the Honorverse battles wouldnt really translate visually.

  • By the way what is the clip aound 30-32 seconds? It looks like a clip from Wing Commander:Starfury game.

  • It's from Halo 2.

  • The clips from Wing Commander are the most seamless and best visuals of a David Weber missile duel. That movie hasnt been done to death and all the clips are still fresh. Use as many of those as you can. If you're careful you MIGHT be able to use clips from the DUNE mini-series as backgrounds of the Star Kingdom. Raid as many eps of The Outer Limits as well, the ones with eps set in the future.

  • I am against casting Angelina Jolie because she seems to be the most cliched choice, ignoring any number of talented unknowns. I read somewhere that David Weber once described Honor's perfect voice as belonging to Mira Furlan, of Babylon 5 and LOST fame. Maybe you can find some usable footage in one of those, or at least some lifted dialog.

  • Well, it's funny you mention Babylon 5, as I was seriously considering using footage of Cmdr. Ivanova (Claudia Christian). Sure her voice isn't an exact match as Furlan's, but she's alot better choice then Jolie. I was thinking the exact same thing about Wing Commander (obviously), thanks for the other suggestions, I'll see what I can do.

  • Yeah it doesn't meet mine either Honor has a higher voice.

Waiting patiently for next book to come out.

  • I've been scouring films to find a decent replacement, it's hard to find the right actress in the right setting. (there aren't many with Honor's voice.)

  • Very true unfortunatly. But otherwise you got her right everything else.

  • Hey, hazmat, you wan't a good voice? How about a good image. She may be on the old side, but so is Adm. Harrington. What about Terrye Garr? My second choice would be Kate Mulgrew. But, she is Capt. Janeway. That don't work. But, hey, maybe it does. =Stefan=

  • Honor Harrington. My favorite heroin. This does not meet my picture of her. I think David Weber would agree. =Stefan=

  • I'm right there with you, but I had to use what I had. Besides, you know Hollywood never gets it right any way. ;)

  • this is so cool

  • Nice film, i think the sky captain clips fit harringtons description perfectly.

  • Look forward to seeing more!

  • so am i it is really good isn't it
