  • I was there too!!!! OMG!!! Fre concert @ parque del oeste....even the they had a widescreen and people selling liter beers for what was like .75 cents.....one of my life memories......

  • Beautiful. What a shame for all the rest!

  • One of my favorite Smiths songs.

  • I was a snot nosed 8th grader when this was filmed. On my bucket list is to see them get back together and see Moz and Johnny mend fences, but that would involve the world ending...i'm in no big hurry.

  • Happening in mine.

  • who the fuck dislikes the smiths?

  • awesome

  • I was there, good times !!!!!!!

  • I never thought I'd say this, but I would like more close-up footage of Johnny's left hand.

  • God I wish i was there...wasn't even born yet :(

  • Ahhhh,love it!!

  • What did Morrissey say when he ate a hard boiled egg?.... That yolk isn't runny anymore! ;)

  • @rockguru123 haha good

  • hes so fabulous

  • few singers handle the scenario, as it handles this type of Smiths, I dare say that few such as Jim Morrison, Freddy Mercury and Mick Jagger, it seems very good style of this group

  • god this song is so good.

  • By far, my favourite Smiths song ever...beautiful.

  • Moz is timeless. This song moves me just as much as it did when i was 16, and now im 38. Thank you Morrissey.

  • I'm glad you care so much about me!

but still, it seems rather pointless, dull, predictable, vulgar.... waste of space, time, etc...

  • I am fourty I been listening to The Smiths & Morrissey since I was 17 he made a big impact in my life and still does I was on stage w/him in Berkley in 1991 hug'd him and yelled @ him he's the badess & the best AND WILL ALWAYS BE MATTHEW ANGELES LIVE ON & SING YOUR LIFE!

  • FUCK-IN GREAT !!!--THAT SOUND IS LOVE !!!

  • GREAT MOOD-/SOUND

  • 22 people think its still funny

  • Comment removed

  • MISS THEM SO MUCH!! BUT I PRETTY HAPPY WITH MORRISSEY SOLO!!

  • Morrisey is gay.

  • @ChasHolling I thought everyone knew that

  • @jgfunk I thought it was pretty hard to tell. >_>

  • @ChasHolling Dear god, help this retard find a point to his life!

  • @ChasHolling surely, for you!

  • @ChasHolling erm... what exactly do you mean with your comment? what´s the purpose?

  • @fatimida To make you ask questions.

  • @ChasHolling Why did you give your brain for scientific experiments so young?

  • @ChasHolling you are so bright I had to put my shades :O

  • WHY?? Why 21 people don't like this?!

  • That Joke isn't Funny Anymore love it

  • great rhythm guitar

  • i truly wish morrissey could live forever.he is TOO cool and perfect to die!!!!!!!!!

  • kick em when they fall down... kick em when they fall down...

  • I think it's easy to dismiss how far ahead of it's time this was in 1985. Not only in sound, but in attitude and culture. My love for the smiths was their ability to take aggressive, layered guitar rock and remove the posing, posturing machismo of hair metal and arena rock. You could be intelligent, sensitive and human and still in someone's face. That's something indie rock today thankfully takes for granted. But this is the genesis.

  • The likes of Morrissey & Marr won't be seen again anytime soon - thank goodness I was there!!!

  • the at the drive in track is catacombs mate.last track on relationship of command.to hermanmerman.

  • best smiths song

  • the smiths sound good even with poor quality sound.

  • so im pretty positive at the drive in covered the outro of this song for one of their songs and i cant think of the name of it, does anyone know what it is?

  • Man i wish I had gotten into the smiths while i was still in high school

  • why i spent 6 months ignoring my fathers advice to listen to the smiths i will NEVER know.

  • I am on my sons profile but I grew up in San Diego and listened to 91X they played this and all kind of other awesome music. Those were the days.

  • His voice just cuts through everything, it's all that matters.

  • I was in college by the mid 1980's & unless you went to any local college w/in CUNY, NYC local colleges, or in Some other working class city like Chicago, Pittsburgh, etc, you didn't hear much of this music. I'm guessing some larger pvt. colleges might have issues w/ music of working class people. The Clash, The Smiths and other punk and post-punk bands rep the children of the working labor classes. Pvt. Colleges have children of the bougoisie class --typically.

  • ...and that girl was never heard from again. 0:50

  • Grew up in the 80's - his music was on some larger college campuses - but rare- too bad

  • Great band! Great video!

  • This, The Smiths , is my genre..... so thankful that 1 year out of high school they had just hit the scene.... All good and life changing in a focal sense....

  • great song!

  • biebers god a new song.. that joke isnt funny anymore

  • @Tyizere yes, justin bieber jokes aren't funny anymore, just let it die, man

  • My only disappointed is that haunting guitar riff from the track is missing. I was born late too..would have loved to be around 1940's in England (i know crazy with the war but people stuck together and rallied around) or 50s america would have be amazing. I was an 80s kids /90s young adult, so for me TOTPs wasThe Smiths,Kate Bush, joy division (and i thought watching totps on a thurs was goood, but looking back it was great.) with a bit of benny hill and kenny everest following totps

  • This band is so good.

  • I am very fortunate to be living my life today and have allowed The Smiths/Morrissey to be a part of me. I wouldn't have asked to be born at any other time or place. And when death finally comes and takes me away, It will all have been a pleasure!

    -Miguel (Close To Modern)

  • Wish I could have been there. Sadly, I had the misfortune of being born four years later.

  • magic. do I need to say more?

  • unreal

  • Taken away as the flower was given.

  • Great song, great voice, fucking excellent hair.

  • There's nothing happening in 21 people's lives.

  • @Ellie8D lol :)

  • Thanks so much for this video.I am 24 and i love The Smiths and Morrissey,i listen to Morrissey everyday,That joke isn't funny anymore is one of my favourite songs.

  • Check out 'Convalescence Kid: Nothing left to lose' This guy is pretty awesome!!!

  • I can hear ''¡tío bueno!'' xD

  • @XdarkprimeX sí, se escucha a una chica gritar"guapo, tio bueno!!!" si yo hubiese estado ahí, tambien lo habría hecho ;)

  • after 4:28, there's only shit.

  • @citta93 The video ends at 4:28...

  • @jrod1112 that's the point.

  • 2:12

  • too close to home and its too near the bone more than youll ever know

  • Such a brilliant live performance of a brilliant song.

  • @IainRockss HE IS BRILLIANT

  • I just can't understand for the life of me, I mean morrissey must have been around 24 when he wrote these lyrics. How could he have such a deep knowledge of human nature and life? It has took me a long time to really fully understand his lyrics and even now they keep unraveling some new meanings. As I get older I would certainly cherish them more and more. Long live the Smiths.

  • the greatest poem in pop culture

  • Thank you for posting this! I love this album and this song.

  • well im 41 i saw them live in 86 queen is dead tour i grew up with them from 1984 in my teenage school years, ' ive seen this happen in other peoples lives...' wasnt really poignant for me back then but fuck it is now!! seriously!

  • Can anything else be said that is more profound? That joke isn't funny anymore...

  • Even though security kicks his admirer offstage, Morrissey still keeps her rose. That's fucking classy.

  • I'm so Fing pissed I was born after this...

  • any1 know the song that finishes just as this vid begins? a long shot i know

  • @cordwayning yeah its handsome devil

  • when he drops the mic <3

  • I hate it when older people tell me that I like the smiths because I'm young and idealistic, I just think they're old and cynical.

  • @crofters93

you mean old and cynical just like morrissey?

  • 1.04. "I wish i could lauaaaaagh!" Brilliant!

  • it IS funny, however, when humans feel the need to pick on others to make themselves feel better about their pitiful selves. BLESS UP and GROW UP silly humans.... and by "funny", i mean "DOUCHEBAGGY" You're BETTER than THAT!!! <3 <3 <3

  • ahhhhhhh. i want to see them, but i can't. and it kills me.

  • I remember when this song came out . The album version still makes the hair on my arms stand up . really brilliant song writing

  • TNT

  • Dark but Beautiful lyrics !

  • I feel so nostalgic for these times past.

  • The Girl who gave Morrissey the flower really made the video....it matches his shirt and is so beautiful the way he sings and waves it throughout the song....

  • how can anyone dislike this?

  • Hi phrasing is impeccable, even if his pitch isn't... I think the former is more important than the latter anyway.

  • Brilliant

  • london

  • London!

  • J20M07 Dearest Darlin. It could be worse.

I was 16 in 85 and I The smiths was just a band.

I remember The smiths giving a gig in Lonson for a fiver ( 5 pounds) and I didn't care.

Another mistake in my life. I would have loved to see Marr and Morrissey.

    Just love it.

  • park the car at the side of the road you should know times tide will smother you and i will too when you laugh about people who feel so very lonely there only desire is to die well im afraid it does not make me smile i wish i could laugh but that joke isn,t funny anymore its too close to home and its to near the bone its to close to home and its to near the bone more then you will ever know
  • This footage is the best document of what the smiths gigs were actually like...period.This is the young men at the zenith of their powers.

  • "Times time will smuther you!"

  • @hurjamarja time's tide

  • ive seen it happen in other people's lives.

    and now.......

    its happening in mine

  • my beatles

  • Hmmm. Beethoven was born a long time, too...and speaks to many. Do ya think, maybe, art endures?

    Quack!

  • for my money the greatest Smiths tune ever laid out :D

  • nice tune!

  • I'VE SEEN THIS HAPPEN... IN OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES -- AND NOW IT'S HAPPENING IN MINE!

  • I dig the guitar in this song, a lot.

  • Este compadre es de otro cosmos. y jhony marr es de otra galaxia el cruce de los dos se produjo en el planeta tierra asi nacio smihs

  • @frunk2007

Spot on mate: the man Marr impresses me on so many levels. I always half liked the smiths ish and then I started listening to Marr and I am going throught the cannon now with a fine tooth comb and he just gets better and better. I've heard him on the radio saying he has to collaborate to work effectively but that just says it all: every time, as you say, as you say

  • @doctorlescoop shame his talent has been used in the cribs.

  • @lawrence096 Yeah but also been used in Modest Mouse who are phenomenal

  • That's wonderful J20M07... it is will be relevant forever. It's a blessing that you found this music. Smiths Forever!!!! I've seen them in concert many times, I feel so lucky.

  • I love how that girl gives him the rose .... and then is dragged off stage.

  • I love Morrissey, I love this song <3

  • He's such a wordsmith (no pun intended)

    to describe the suicidal as

"people who feel so Very lonely Their only desire is to die"

its so gut wrenching thinking of someone who's only desire in the whole world is to die

  • Time's tide will smother you....

  • The most brilliant shit ever.... EVER.

  • Rain is falling heavy, kicking back watching The Smiths videos. To many years have past since I've listened to their music. This song just grips me. So many deep thinking evenings to their music. Still passionate fan.

  • And Marr's beautiful music gave life to Morrissey's lyrics.

  • @AviatorRider don't forget Mike and Andy.

  • "..I've seen this happen..in other people's lives..and now it's happening in mine..."

Every body has a moment in life where this lyric is suddenly true - it's devastating, then hilarious.

  • the 40 last seconds make me cry..what a great guitar line...I was 15 and at this time..I have a 2 year old boy and one day he'll cry on this title also...

  • <3<3<3

  • i think just about everyone can relate to someone who they feel like saying the title of this song towards

  • For those that can relate...

  • @HigherLove70 i am one of those

  • I am sorry, I know. I have a bad keyboard, so I mis-typed.

  • I saw them live when I was 15 my sister took me. I didn't realise then that 24 years later it would still be the best gig I've ever been to. And I've been fortunate too in seeing some very memorable concerts.

  • These guys were the best by far. Morrissey´s voice and lyrics are one of the most great contribute to the music world.

  • Even when they fall down we must learn to help them get back up.

When it happens to us maybe someone could be kind enough to give us the time to lend us a hand back up too.

It happens to everyone no-one is immune.

Fantastic lyrics and music from back in the day.

  • The lighting on Morrisey's face in this is really wonderful. Especially in the first part, with the purple and the soft green.

  • what joke? this joke? that he loves the brown region lol

  • lol at him dropping the mic :D

  • 2 Close 2 home and its 2 near the bone !!
