@iliketha It's just the anticipation of the punchline. His particular rhythm and often intense demeanor just kind of gets a laugh out of you when you realize he's setting something up. Also, relax. I wasn't being defensive, I was joking around. Normally I notice when it seems like the audience simply can't be swayed by the comedian, so I found that the audience was having a lot of fun in this one to be kind of neat. I don't 'get' being annoyed by a stand up comedy audience laughing.

It is no different than an actor on a stage. The have to pull it off live just as they've rehearsed a thousand times. It takes rare genius to pull off true ad lib.

(Louis CK, Jim Jefferies, etc) It's not like it's "focused funny" but a stand-up routine is carefully rehearsed. Youtube kills a lot of comedians stand-up bits because most of them can't repeat it because the audience has already seen it on youtube! This is the age we live in. Keep it fresh.
