honestly i would just buy another drive but its a non d2e that can read burnt discs & those are hard to find and expensive ,and i want to softmod and be able to play gc games, i wonder if i could get a wode and play gc games from the hdd ,even if the drive dont work, but if i had a wode i think id still want a working drive, but for the price of a new non d2e drive i could almost buy a wode, not sure if wode can play gc backups with a new drive or if can even install in a brand new wii w/new drive
but then i watched another video on here and the guy has his woo open and the dre,and he says he has the same problem i do where the disc never spins, but then he puts in a guns and roses audio cd with the middle cut out and it spins,so that makes me not sure if its the motor or not, and now i hope i didnt damage the laser by fucking with the pot ,i think ill order a motor ,but im not sure if all drives use the exact same spindle motor,i think there are 2 different lasers, but motors im not sure
not the laser, because when i opened the wii and hooked it up with it open ,i could see that the disc never even spins at all ,then i took the whole drive apart, first i took the board off and the metal sheild over the laser and then i took the spindle motor out ,and it was really tight, like when you try to turn it with your hand,it dont spin easy, like you could not give it a spin and let go and have it still spin ,it will ony turn if you turn it,and it feels a bit tight,so im guessing its that
@vq35ftw ,yeah im not sure ,but i dont think it moved at all and i used a bucch of different tools from a small phillips from an eyeglass repair kitao one that cane with a GBA opening kit and a triwing, to pair of needle node tweezers to hat pins to a small exacto knife blade to a tiny flathead, and nothing seemed to moove it but maybe it did move and i couldnt teel , so do you think that if i idid moove that i could have damaged it if i mooved it too far?
and besider the fucking disc isnt even spinning inside the drive so i doubt that this wikk help anything ,i dont think it has shit to do with the laser in my opinion it is the spindle moto ,cause when i removed it ,it dont turn too easily ,so my guess is that you need a new spindle motor, not a laser
how the fuck can you even tell if the pot is even moxing,i used the smallest phillips i had and a needle nose tweezers and still no luck this fucking thing aint meant to be turned i dont think it doesnt seem like it has even mooved , not that i think it would make fuckall difference, this is stupid, and also i cant tell but i think maybe there is a bit of clear plastic tape over it so you cant adjust it ,but anyways its too ficking small and it dont even turn i eve n tried needles
To be honest with you i used a small flat head to turn the pot. And yes it moves. And yes it does make a difference., a lot of them will spin a little bit to see if it can read the TOC and if it cant read it the disk will stop spinning. Ive fixed many of wii's,xbox's ps2 by doing this
you'll get a steady reading of around 750-950 Ohms. Turn your Philips ever so slightly...and I mean slowly...counter-clockwise until you get a reading of 600 Ohms...doesn't take much of a turn to do it...just enough to titty twist a mouse.
discovered this tip too bro to insure your turning the POT enough to adjust it...set your multimeter to 2000 (if you don't have one, buy one....same with the tri-wing, lol) and make contact with just above the top and a little below the bottom of the screw at the same time..
I have my 4.3 modded not. I would of done it a while ago but needed the smash ect ect till the letter bomb came out a couple of weeks ago now i have a fully working hacked wii now though lol
Lol ok there buddy calm down.... If you knew anything about lazy laser this almost applies to all of them. So go fuck off and pay someone to fix your shit.
@vq35ftw Don't worry, 'mate', I've already fixed it. Without your 'guide'. I don't even think it should be called that. But hey, I'm being nice today...... Asshat.
Im not that worried bud. Good for you that you fixed it. And its not a guide or anything of the sort. I happened to have the wii opened and seen that there wasnt anything about the DRE. And obviously its worked for others as well so maybe your barking up the wrong tree "mate"
An error has occurred. Press the Eject Button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii console off and refer to the Wii operations Manual for help troubleshooting?
When you finished the adjustment and tried testing a game, did you plug the laser's ribbon back into the drive board where you had to take it out? How did you go about doing all of that?
I took mine apart & it has a metal cover over the part that i need to reach. How do I take this off??! My wii is almost 2 years old & has had DRE a lot but it recently completely started to refuse even spinning discs (gamecube & wii) help please! :'c
OMFG DUDE UR THE BEST, JUST REMEMBER YALL LOOK FOR THE RED LASER BEAM WHEN DOING THIS, THIS SCREW ADJUSTS THE BEAM STRAINTH, TURN IT A LIL AT A TIME, LIKE THE THICKNESS OF A HAIR NO SHIZ! BEEN TRING TO FIX MY WII FOR MONTHS NOW AND BAM! ITS FIXED!!!!!!!!! HELL YA, THANKS MAN, REALLY MY WIFE LOVE SUPER MARIO AND NOW SHE CAN PLAY IT. F**K ya!!!!! THANKS THANKS THANKS!!!!!! ANYONE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS JUST EMAIL ME I GOT IT TO A SCIENCE NOW!!! KYLEPOSEY@MAIL.COM
I also hate the tri-wings! I ended up finding a flat-head driver that was the perfect size to wedge between 2 of those "wings" and avoided drilling them out by shear luck. If you could explain the origins of the disk read error, and how adjusting the screw fixed the problem, it would make the video a little more helpful.
@voxmagna2 Yeah, I just looked at ebay and found one for $0.55 and $1.35 shipping. Win! It's perfect for Wii repair. The same guys is selling more of them brand new for just as cheap. I ordered another as a backup or to give to another techie as a "thanks for fixing my Red Light of Death gift". lol
@AttackOfFragmaster i made a serious mistake and i have know idea were it goes. will make a vid asap to get help. some plasic part fell out when i was closing it up.
This is NOT a permanent fix.

It worked for me, now my only concern is that the laser seems waaay too powerful (really bright) will that hurt the disk?
euzzi 5 months ago
@euzzi no the lasers are not burning lasers

@kyelo111 give it a little more of a turn. If it doesnt work then the diode is more then likely dead and the laser will need to be replaced

Ebay, Or if you have a microcenter near by they have them as well. If you get a small enough flat head you can use that as well
