we used to go down behind the dam and catch hybrids in the spillway and swift current...back before they blocked it off the first time..can u still go down there?
The "Bear Creek" falls you mentioned are White (lower) and Factory (upper)Shoals of the Alcovy River. That stretch of river once hosted three mills (including the huge Newton Factory) and a community of 600 people. Flood of '94 resulted in 30,000 cubic feet of water per second cresting the dam , which was significantly more then '09. It was probably 40,000 during the flood of '71. The record, however, is 90,000 cfs - set in the 1920's.
i used to catch 3 and 4 foot long gar there, right below the dam, but i bet they arent there now! if they are, i want a piece of them! theyre sooo fun to catch!! large minnows, cork about 2 feet deep! fun fun fun
very good video!!! mine are not that great but i have ones up from the 22 and im going to get the 23rd's video up in the morning. the 23rd was way worse and was completely covering the signs there are the boat ramp on the river

Factory Shoals sure looks different when you have that much water going down.
