@majest33 I found this : "lean, dark and tall, with shaggy dark hair "flecked with grey", grey eyes, and a stern pale face" and i'm not alone according to wiki : "Also, some viewers and critics have said that this version of Aragorn looks Native American" speaking of Bakshi's film
@majest33 (sorry for my english) i agree with you, it's fiction but fiction made of sword, king and other stuff who link the fiction of tolkien to the period of History named Middle Ages. The cherokee doesn't have a place in that period. Anyway i don't care if Aragorn is cherokee or not it's just make me laugh because i don't think it was the idea of the cartoonist to make aragorn like that. In that point, maybe i wrong
@uhustickglue read the book and I don't think Aragorn is really supposed to be a average lookin "white" guy. The lineage of Aragorn are not from only the same people as Boromir, they ruled over the entire Dunedain and not just the Gondorians at Minas Tirith but that was one of their main cities. Peter Jackson made Isildur "white" too, but whatever. It's all Fiction anyway.
I much much prefer Bakshi's The Lord of the Rings over Jackson's. By very very far. It's more creepy, with that typical 70s comics Heroic Fantasy feel. The characters are way closer to how I felt them in the book. And I love the score (even though Rosenman, if I remember right, the film composer, never lost an occasion to criticize Bakshi for failing his movie). I love the theme for the running Orcs of Saruman's army. Thanks for posting.
@Gargantua606 of course you're free to have your opinion, but when adapting a book to film, especially one as complex as this, changes have to be made. I prefer Jackson's trilogy because the story and characters are more fleshed out and the emotional scenes are a lot more emotional. Here I felt nothing for Boromir and Gandalf's deaths, in the trillogy, I literally cried and still feel for them to this day. Always intersting to see different points of views though
@reyasllewxam thats the point it didn't have to be there but it's there. Bakshi is an artist and he probably wanted realism too. This also maybe shows the desperation in their attempt to catch up to the orcs who do not rest..and probably the actor really tripped and Bakshi's like cuuut!!...no, wait no, I'll use it.
That's what Gollum was actually described to have looked like. Actually, this movie got a lot closer than Jackon's adaptations- although Jackson probably did capture the atmosphere much better- these movies were far more accurate in terms if dialogue and plot. At least the director of this film didn't take pleasure in picking on and making money off of one of the worlds late, best loved writers. "Well, maybe that was Tolkien's vision- but it wasn't MY vision". Screw Jackson.
I know they have limitations I'm just joking around at some of the quirky little things. I'm not making fun of the look or anything.
Takiheko Kun, you miss my point, I think it's funny that they're showing three steps in slow motion, not the fact that they're running that long, I mean how dare you I'm a huge fan. And just because I'm joking about it doesn't mean I think I can do better. Wow you people are sensitive. So enough with your ridiculous commenting.
People get too down on this film, yes it has limitations but it's really not that bad. It's another persons version of the story and they tell it using their artwork. Sheesh, you people need to be more gracious and forgiving. I would like to see any of you do better. Huh? How about it?
Everyone always said that The Lord of the Rings had to be animated "back in the day" because of the limitations of live action. So what's the point of making an animated movie if you still have all those limiations? I understand they used rotoscoping for the MOVEMENT, but why did they have to make the actual creatures look like crappy live action actors with terrible costumes? The balrog should have been a completely animated creature.
Director: "And now for the running scenes!"
*Legolas, Aragorn and Gimli all run left and right*
Director: "This is so gay they can't even run straight."
Producer: "Haaaa."
*Aragorn falls down*
Director: "Oh, for crying out loud.."

Pincer encirclement, I really love the use of realistic and actual battle tactics used in Bakshi's moives. His films are true works of art.
