good works such as putting others before yourself might be commendable BUT, without faith in Jesus Christ it means NOTHING and God sees it all as filthy rags, i'm not sure this person realises this from what he says here, good works can never undo sin, it must be punished, if he does realise this then sorry for being mistaken
