If only the current administration would learn from history, and President Kennedy, instead of stubbornly repeating the same mistakes over and over, at our expense.
I doubt democrats want to raises taxes all the way to 90%, they may wanna raised them from 36% to 39% which doesn't seem that unreasonable. Kennedy cut taxes from 90%(which at one point may have been necessary to end Great Depression through the New Deal and finance WWII) to 70%, I'm liberal and I believe this move help the economy, and truly allow rich to keep more money to invest and keep the economy working, but if you cut taxes too much they'll just gonna whore the extra money for themselves
"...in the absence of a economic crisis today..."
Listen for once. I know you want to get down to the comments as quickly as you can to push the "ZOMG TEH LIBEL DEMONCRATS SOCIALST COMMUNIST MARXIST HATEZ TEH AMERICU MUSLIM" nonsense, but can't you wait 2 minutes before moving on to your delusions?
@Ecosse57 JFK was a democrat, and very respected by many people here and around the world. If your only argument is to reverberate something Obama once said, than you have more problems than most people I know.
I have a problem with this because you expect everyone else to drag this country to it's knees right along with you. Not everything is f'ed up. Religions didn't happen yesterday. Neither did war. Grow up!
I'm a conservative and have been a fan of Kennedy because his policies were the next best thing to Jefferson. In his debates, he said he didn't believe in Big Government, he believed in Effective Government. He began to distrust big bureaucracies like the CIA, FBI, etc., and even changed his stance towards the USSR in later years, hoping to man the first landing on the Moon with an American and Russian. What could have been...
@smo699 well he still is a center left politician, he did express doubts about new deals in his diaries. He proposed many big government programs, but it was defeated by old line republicans and southern democrats. One good thing he did was cut taxes
@nicenonya3 You forgot about good ole Tip O'Neil (D) the man who controlled our spending and boy could he and his democrat congress and senate spend. As a democrat you should want jobs shipped overseas. That's simply a means to an end that freedom hating assholes like you want. After all a broken nation is easier to overthrow nation. A nation that you want to overthrow if for no other reason because you hate private proprty rights and the constitution. Isn't that right you little communist fuck

Somehow, I can't but help feel that Al Qaeda has taken a different path on their objective "death to america" and have decided to do this economically by outsourcing their work to the Dems.
@drichardhalifax Actually, Osama and Zahrahiri said that's how they would do it. Shortly after 911 I saw a video on the news that translated into exactly that.
The most revered Democrat weighs in on the budget talks from the grave. Dem's have you lost your way? Have you lost your ability to source logical and sound economic planning? It would seem so. Pay close attention to the great JFK...
@itsallaboutyoubaby Its not about dem's or rep's. This entire system & everything that's happening in it are by design. There are no accidents & or stupid decisions. They're seemingly dumb decisions are purposely done to make it harder for the avg american, (blue collar worker), to live comfortably. Whats getting ready to take place is by design be rest assured. U may even be surprised but they won't.
@c2g1980 I agree that the Democrats want that so they can control us, that's what they're all about. Make people rely on the Government more & more so you have to vote for them, the party of big government. Big Government means less freedom by definition, the smaller the government the larger the citizen, and vice versa...
What year was this made? 2011? Same thing over and over and over and over and over and over, year after year. And people continue to waste thier time thinking someone else in office will fix things. Either people have memories like a flea, or they are completely brain dead. Things will not be fixed here as long as people are letting themselves being taken over. Thanks for sitting on your ass, drinking your beer, and watching cars go around a stupid track.
@BrianLuper Oh my goodness I can't believe I found some1 on hear who uses common since to make an intelligent conclusion. I couldn't have said it better myself. This entire depression we're getting ready to have is by design & no1 cares as long as there's beer & sports.
@c2g1980 Hey there! Yep, don't EVER give up your brain. 98% of the world already has. Remember, your the bad apple, everyone else is "educated", "schooled" and can memorize who took a dump on a rock in 1755. Computers/robots operate the same way. They only memorize what they are fed. Anything else fed to them has either no reply, a repeat of what they know, or a lock up (Closed mind). Hey, at least computers ask for more infomation if they don't understand it......People don't even do this.
He says that the best time for this bill to appear is "in the absence of an economic crisis". I love how you conservatives try to twist history for your own agenda.
@FloridaLiberal What conservatives do you know who belive that tax cuts are only good during an economic crisis? It just erks liberals that Kennedy, Reagan, Clinton, and Bush w. cut taxes and created economic growth. Pointing out that Kennedy thought it best to do it during a time absent of an economic crisis is just grasping at straws trying to find a differnce...any difference, between kennedy and Republicans.
@mixmastermeeks If you have a massive budget deficit and you lower taxes you're a fool, period. Kennedy clearly says "IN THE ABSENCE OF AN ECONOMIC CRISIS".
Common sense tells me that if you've got a deficit, then you sure as hell shouldn't maintain a low tax rate on billionaires.
"It is a paradoxical truth that tax rates are too high and tax revenues are too low and the soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to cut the rates now ... Cutting taxes now is not to incur a budget deficit, but to achieve the more prosperous, expanding economy which can bring a budget surplus" JFK Nov 20th 1962. But as a liberal I am assuming that you are not for tax cuts even when we are not in a crisis. Is that a correct assumtion?
JFK was smart enough to understand the basics of what truly stimulates an economy long term. I hope our next President takes it to the next level. Flat tax. Its a win for everybody and no company can bypass not paying any taxes at all.
@pandrews122 Are you serious? The man who believed in Medicare and Medicaid for the elderly and the poor, Comprehensive Civil Rights Legislation for mistreated minorities, that religion was a private matter and should not guide civil institutions such as our government or be a prerequisite for holding office, you think that JFK was more conservative than MOST Republicans today? Wow. Some people will say ANYTHING to put historical figures on their side of the debate. Priceless.
@DPEGSB You don’t know much history do you? The Democrats opposed civil rights and it would have never passed without the Republican leadership. The Democrats were the party of the KKK even in Kennedy’s time.
@sscofield1018 Of course I know they opposed it, they knew supporting it would cause the southern faction of the party to abandon them which is why no Democrat (FDR, Truman or Johnson as Majority Leader) ever wanted to touch the issue. Its the main reason the party split once it was passed and the national party lost the south almost permanently. I have no attachment to the party, but to say JFK as an individual was more conservative than MOST Republicans today is still laughable.
You should still have the richest pay the highest share of taxes and not gift them a tax break when the rest of the country is reeling from fiscal disasters perpetrated by the...guess who?...THE RICH!! This Republican anti-labor, tax breaks for corporations (including those that pollute!) and the richest of the rich IS a felonious assault on American life. Even Buffet agrees he should be paying more...get over it Republicans.
"It is a paradoxical truth, that tax rates are too high today, and tax revenues are too low, and the soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to cut the tax rates." - JFK
And this "paradoxical truth" JFK speaks of (which has been proven to be true time and time again, on both state and federal levels) is regularly denied and denounced by the modern Democratic Party. And why? Because it is a socialist party, that's why.
Democrats like John F. Kennedy are a thing of the past.
It was a different time and different circumstances. At 35-40 seconds in, he clearly states "in the absence of an economic crisis we have today," meaning we were not in the midst of a crisis.
Also, a tax cut is just one facet of a sound economic plan, the business community needs to support the well-being of domestic labor rather than ship jobs elsewhere or import illegal or unwanted immigrants.
People commenting on this probably don't know the tax rates of 50's...You realize the highest earners were taxed at 90% because we had to pay for the wars? JFK was talking about cutting those taxes to 70%. Back then a tax reduction of 20% made sense because of the rate. Can someone please explain to me how keeping the status quo of the last 10 years is going to somehow now create jobs? Simply put, it isn't.
@Painsandwich What people don't recognize is that you were able to deduct almost everything in taxes in the 1950's. So the super rich were not actually paying 90%. Even if you adjust for real dollars, the worlds wealthiest people back then, don't even compare to the amount of wealthy people we have today. The more investments, capital, credit we have, the more we will be able to create small businesses which employ 85% of the worlds workforce. I own a sb myself and I employ 11 people.
How sad that JFK would probably not get the Democratic Nomination today and this tax policy would have him branded as a Right Wing radical by Move On, The Huffington Post and the Daily Kos.
This was the last democrat with a brain. Too bad other democrats thought he was useless to their cause and had him eliminated.
JFK was also the last democrat to actually lower taxes for Americans. Later democrat presidents, even if they made lower taxes a campaign "promise", they never did it.
If democrats today could be like JFK was, this would be the happiest country on the planet instead of being sucked into socialism by Barry Soetoro.
JFK was the last democrat that had any common sense. In fact he was probably the last Kennedy to have any common sense. The question is. Could JFK get the democrat nomination today. On the flip side. The question is. Could Calvin Coolidge get the republican nomination today. Today in 21st century USA democrat = communist and republican = democrat.
The thing that all governments - American or otherwise - do very well is to dream up new fees, excise taxes, income taxes, and ways to spend $2 for every penny in revenue. That has been true since the first tax by the first government.
I was 2 months old when he did this. The economy where we were living (MA) boomed big time as a result and, had he lived, 1964 would have been a sure thing electionwise. I suppose Obama et al will eventually call JFK a "closet republican". I am just waiting for that insult to come from their lips.
What President Kennedy started (effective 1964) and President George W. Bush finished (effective 2003) cannot be explained in 500 characters. But how about this for the BOTTOM LINE to disingenuously cutting the top marginal income tax rate from 91% to 28% (presently 35%) between 1964 and 1988: A $13.5 TRILLION national debt; a $1+ TRILLION deficit & 24% fewer net new jobs created between 1982 and 2010 than between 1946 and 1981 when President Reagan took office. OKJGp
@okjackgroup That is not a result of cutting the top tax from 91 to 35, but rather a Federal government spending far more than it takes in. Increasing taxes decreases what I have to spend. When I don't spend, businesses have lower profits. When businesses have few profits, they cut jobs. When businesses cut jobs, fewer people have money to spend to create even more jobs.
@themetalgod21 So you're saying those who earn more should pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes? In other words, they should be paying for their success.
@lcc1211 There hasn't been a succesful person who hasn't stepped on other peoples' backs. That being that, all the great philosphers from aristotle to smith, locke and marx agreed that a progressive income tax is the fairest way to tax people.Reverse the equation. If people who made 30,000 paid 90 percent income and people who made 100 million paid 15 would that make sense??? Hell no!!!!!!! People who make less should be punished for not making as much. A prog income tax is the proper way to go
JFK did close loopholes as he explained in his 04/61 appeal to Congress but it was business loopholes, deemed ineffective. 1st was Depreciation reform 07/62, then Investment tax credits in Oct, Corp. rate reductions in 02/64 w/ Individual rate reductions.
.
.
.. So ur wrong, the TOTAL net effect was MASSIVE tax cuts (individual cuts up to 42.9%) with almost 75% of the resultant economic boost the result of tax cuts on Capital.
What is this? St. John spewing Republican heresy?? Across the board tax cuts to help the economy??? Egads!!!! But seriously, Kennedy gave this speech when the Democratic Party was still an American party - and not the anti-American, socialistic party it is today :/

@theseethingrainweeps Wow! How gullible you are, buying all that neo-fascistic cant from FOX and the rightwing mouthpieces employed by corporate mass media (whose financial ties to defense industries, oil, and other transnational big business interests skew news to mythical rightwing jingoistic proportions even Herr Goebbel's never dreamed possible. A shame. You're one of the sheep bleating the rote, ritualistic cant fed you by your Stimulus-Response brainwashing masters. Pathetic.
@theseethingrainweeps you're right! JFK like Reagan realized cutting taxes would boost the economy, and create jobs and prosperity. Equally you're right Kennedy was part of a democrat party (no longer exists) that wasn't a socialist.
@theseethingrainweeps Lyndon Johnson eventually enacted those tax cuts, and guess what? Republicans were actually skeptical for concern that they were fiscally irresponsible and would add to the deficit.
But seriously, Kennedy gave this speech when the Republican Party was still an American party - the true party of fiscal responsibility - and not the corporate-shill party it is today :/
Yeah, it was 92% during Eisenhower...but a cut to 65% with a GDP around a 1/3 lower is not the kind of tax cut people support now. Our current system has around 34% on top earners with a bazillion misused credits and deductions, along with myriad loopholes and sneaky accounting tactics, turning it into a regressive system. We need revenue increases right now, but we could do it without increasing rates if business didn't run our government at the moment.
@PaulDenton14 well the tax rates were high then, but government didn't collect any revenues, because there were all kind of deductions and loopholes that didn't exist today. If 90 cents of every dollar went to the government, there wouldn't be a deficit and there would be no incentive to work, and Rockefeller wouldn't have any wealth left.

Here was the last Democrat that got it!. It's too bad the next one... LBJ started us on the downward spiral through the rape of Social Security (Social Security Act of 1965) and the "Great Society" a plethora of Democratic entitlement programs that now take up of 66% of the Federal Budget! Last actual balanced budget was 1969! When actual revenue in met federal expenditures! All the rest have used Social Security Tax revenue to pay for the budget. SS is one big Democratic Ponzi Scheme!!!!
@lokanalol learn your history during this time there was a flip in alot of policy held by each party. At the beginning of the century most Conservatives and especially southern conservatives were Democrat. And most Democratic politicians were conservative. Basically when it came to Democrats back then they were exactly like Conservatives today except on war, Demacrats never liked war and always voted against it. All the way back to the civil war, Dems were against freeing the slaves.
@GZUS96 Don't tell me to learn my history when you're barely literate. Republicans have a long history of fighting for civil rights issues, and Democrats for opposing them. Dems founded the KKK and fought for segregation. Kennedy should have been a Republican from the beginning. Instead, he and LBJ ended up spitting the Democrat party and all the social conservatives that should have stayed in the Democrat party joined the Republicans when they voted for Nixon. I know my history.
@lokanalol I appologize I took your comment wrong as I thought you were bashing Kennedy I see now you were just being sarcastic. It seems you do know your history. I was just stating that in the past the parties were almost opposite of what they are today not totally opposite but almost.
@GZUS96 No problem. Sorry about the literacy remark. I'm used to people trying to pick fights with me online. Politics is a complicated subject; not one easily discussed in 500 characters or less, per response through youtube.

@lokanalol Your grasp of history is tenuous at best - from which you draw absurd conclusions & simply laughable statements: "Republicans have a long history of fighting for civil rights." Perhaps during the mid-19th century. Rarely since. The partisan shift from Dixiecrats to Southern Republicans owed to JFK (1963) & Johnson championing the 1964 Civil Rights Act & to Nixon's "Southern Strategy." You know YOUR history, but very little of true history per se. JFK a Republican? Hilarious!
When Michelle Obama said we had to change the conversation and change our history, this is exactly what she was talking about. She wants to hide the real history of America so that the progressive version is the only version.
This is why you don't hear the Democrats talking about JFK's policies much because he was a fiscal conservative. Throwing money at people that they don't earn and will save (the stimulus package) is not only unethical, it is anti-common sense. The Democrats need to let the American people have more of their EARNED money!
@MrDB202 But only the Federal Government knows how to properly spend YOUR EARNED MONEY. You would selfishly squander it on things like housing, food, clothing, and transportation (things that create and sustain other jobs and incomes) for yourself and your family while ignoring those who refuse to work for themselves and demand that you support them instead.
A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government.
Thank you for posting this video, Universal Newsreel. John F. Kennedy showed an understanding of the Laffer curve in this footage. He is telling the truth...and you have brought his message to You Tube.
you are an idiot. Name the last civilization that taxed itself into prosperity? It is always taxes that become overbearing, and then eventually lead to revolt.
That's it? That's all your evidence? Comparing 1938 to 1948? I can take any two years and disprove your reasoning then. 1938 wasn't even a low tax year. The top tax rate was 79% in 1948 it was 82%. I take your beloved 1938 (drepression year btw) and raise you The 1990's were the top tax rate was under 40%. BAM! I just destroyed your theory.
i mean we the US revolted cause of the overbearing taxes too lol. If you missed that then thats pretty sad man. taxing too much just makes people not want to work cause its just going to be taken away. the key is to make tax rates reasonable so people be more inventive and have a incentive to work and make more money. look and russia 2001 cut their taxes from 30% to 13% and it boomed 9 times the size from 100 bill to 9 bill rub
"...a permanent, basic reform and reduction in our rate structure...an across the board top to bottom cut in both corporate and personal income taxes...every dollar released from taxation that is spent or invest will help create new job and a new salary."
How do you differentiate between a demand side tax cut and a supply side tax cut? Whether the original tax rate was 90% or 40%, a tax cut puts "more money in the people's hands."
Some of you guys are morons, the tax cuts JFK proposed were demend-side, which is Keynesian, it is differant from the Supply-side tax cuts of Bush II and Ronald Reagan.
kudos! I'd say the tax cut offered here proves that democrats have changed their spots in the last 40 years or so. this proposal by JFK smells like small government to me
Not really, government still grew under Kennedy. By the time of his death, he still had a large list of social programs to initiate. JFK wasn't the full blown liberal like brother Ted, but he was by no means a small government adovcate conservatives like to think.
@game3525 - ". . . it will include an across the board, top to bottom cut in both corporate and personal income taxes . . ." So, when JFK cuts income tax rates across the board it is demand-side but when Bush II and Reagan do it, it is supply-side.
"The Revenue Act of 1964 was aimed at the demand, rather than the supply, side of the economy," - Arthur Okun, one of Kennedy's economic advisers.
Kennedy's tax cut were Keynesian, government gives money to the people so they will spend it. Suppy-side cuts see business investments as the to increase growth in the economy.
@game3525 So, President Kennedy cut the marginal tax rate and that is demand-side. Presidents Reagan and Bush II cut the marginal tax rate and that is supply-side. If President Obama cut the marginal tax rate (stop laughing I know as well as you do that President Obama would never cut the marginal tax rate) what would we call it? The Chicago-side?
JFKs idea was to stimulate the economy by allowing people and businesses to keep more of their own money, . . .
@game3525 . . .not money given to them by the government, so that they would buy things, invest, and create jobs. Sure sounds like the same thing Presidents Reagan and Bush II did.
But hey, I'm willing to concede the point if President Obama will institute an across the board tax cut like President Kennedy did. I'll say that it is different from what Reagan and Bush II did. Allowing the people to keep more of their own money will stimulate the economy and allow the people to be more free.
David Greenberg sums it up much better then me. A demand-side cut rests on the Keynesian theory that public consumption spurs economic activity. Government puts money in people's hands, as a temporary measure, so that they'll spend it. A supply-side cut sees business investment as the key to growth. Government gives money to businesses and wealthy individuals to invest, ultimately benefiting all Americans.
Saying a tax cut is the "government putting money in the people's hands" is complete ridiculous. When you work and get paid that money is yours, the government takes some of your money in taxes, when government reduces taxes the government is not giving you money, the government is allowing you to keep more of your money.
Relating Keynesian Stimulus to tax cuts is complete ignorance. Tax cuts do not equate to the government giving people money. Also, Bush II tax cuts were not supply side because they expire after 2010. Supply side tax cuts are permanent (as JFK said in this clip). Also, tax rebate checks (which Bush II used multiple times) are not supply side, they are Keynesian because it is the government giving people money and calling it a tax rebate, it is not a permanent tax cut.
Are you saying that 'average middle class and working class people are all bludgers and dont work, you seem to imply that its there fault,i agree that people who dont pay taxes shouldnt deserve tax cuts but ''middle class people whjo actually work deserve a break
I dont believe democrats believe in giving tax cuts to people on welfare as you suggest, there are people doing it hard at the moment, its mostly people who earn less than 250000 that wont have taxes raised but it will be interesting to see if Obama keeps that promise
He won't. He can't, especially if he gets all of the programs that he wants. Remember that Clinton did the same thing: promised a middle class tax ut, and then, not only did he not cut middle class taxes, but he raised them substantially.
@fenderboy88 "I dont believe democrats believe in giving tax cuts to people on welfare as you suggest" If you're on wellfare then you don't pay taxes. If you make less than 50,000 you don't pay. Yeah it comes out of your paycheck but you get it back and then some in your refund. When I was making less than 50,000 about 2,000 a year was coming out, but then I would get all these tax credits and so on and end up getting like 5 or 6 thou in a refund.
@fenderboy88 My buddy whom was high up in the company I worked for made about $5000 a week. He usually ended up paying when he filed and when he didn't he would only break even. Rich folk don't get a refund and that is not right. There should be a fair tax implemented, everybody pays the same percentage and you get nothing back that would be fair and right. Did you know that those "evil top 2%" rich people pay 80% of all the tax revenue collected. So yeah when there is a tax they should get more
@fenderboy88 Yes but those people pay 80% of the tax revenue. So isn't fair that they get a break too. Besides I never got a job from a poor man, and when you raise taxes for those milionaires they then in turn have less to invest back into their companies and eventually can't higher more employees. The tax code right now is unfair it should be the same % for everybody and you get nothing refunded.
@GZUS96 I agree with you, over the last few months i have changed my position on so many positions that i abandoned my leftist positions and have become more Libertarian.
I think EVERYBODY regardless of income should get tax breaks[including the rich] wealth should not be punished.
@fenderboy88 Another point I would say is this the vast majority of peoples financial state is of their own doing including my own. I have been blessed on several occassions in my life with a financial boost. I was rewarded with $20,000 in a law suit when I was 11 yrs old. Which my parents weren't alowd to touch so they put it in CDs and other high interest baring accounts. When I was 18 and given access to the money I had about $80,000. I squandered it.
@GZUS96 A friend of mine whom was involved in the same law suit and got the same settlement though his parents judt put it in a savings account he had about $31,000 when he turned 18. He took that money and put all of it into AOL this was back in 1996 when we turned 18. He has been financially independent ever since. I have read where people started corporations from way less money than I had at 18 and are millionaires now. So I am in the financial situation I am on now and it is 99% my fault.
@GZUS96 So the majority of people are either rich or poor or middleclass mostly by their own doing. That was not the first time I have been given a financial boost. From 2006-2009 I worked over seas making well over $100,000 a yr. Before I went I had only one debt a car payment of about 300 a month. I am now in more debt and actually in a worse financial state than before. MY FAULT. However you handle your finances poor will be the exact same way you handle them rich. But der R always exceptions
@GZUS96 Also wealth cannot be redistributed because wealth is usually created, many on the left dont realise this.
With regards to people at the bottom, put them on a ''flat tax'' which would put them on a guaranteed mimumum income, this would render the minimum wage useless and would also abolish food stamps, but this has to be done the right way.
To call Obama a centrist is laughable! Clinton moved to the center only after it was obvious that's where he'd get the most votes. I also highly doubt he cut the federal budget by 50%. That doesn't wash. Maybe one thing at one time was cut 50% but the entire federal budget was cut 50%, I can promise you that is untrue without even needing to look it up. This video demonstrates how far democrats have gone left. To deny that is funny. Now dems think higher taxes will boost an economy!
Where did you prove me wrong? Where did you disprove the notion that Kennedy cut taxes on those EVIL, GREEDY, RICH PEOPLE!
You called me a "hard line right winger". I guess. I'm definitely not a neo-con. I prefer to not be labeled but if I had to, I'd say Conservative Libertarian would be most fitting.
Goldwater voted against the Kennedy tax cuts because he felt we should not cut taxes before we pay for them (even if they eventually pay for themselves). He was a different kind of conservative.
You keep insulting me saying that I don't understand history but you have yet to take something I've said and prove it wrong. If you like history, I have some video's where I rate the best and worst President of U.S. history. You might enjoy it. Feel free to comment on what you disagree on. I am sure there will be a few picks that rile you up.
He lowered tax cuts on the rich. From 90% to 70%. I repeat myself, argue the numbers. I'm trowing your childish class warfare rhetoric in our face and you want to just avoid it.
How can the government provide money for middle class workers? The government only has money it takes from the people. Gah, I hate political rhetoric. It is so damn useless in reality.
You have to be pretty radical to think Obama is a centrist. He will be as far left as he can possibly go. Clinton was a centrist in the aspect that he had no backbone so that if the tide of popular opinion turned towards conservatism, okay, he'll balance the budget, pass welfare reform, lower the capital gains tax and support free trade.
Barry Goldwater is like the founder of libertarian republicanism. He went a little crazy towards the end, but was far, far more conservative than today's Reps.
When I tell people that democrats were once nothing like you see today, they are skeptical. But when you listen to this you all will understand that the democrat party has turned drastically to the left. They are much closer to marxism than capitalism today. JFK was not unusual by democrat standards of his day. Today he'd be considered a right wing nut by the democrats of this day. He may be a Kennedy but Teddy was not on the same page as JFK ever!
Taxes were 91% on the rich when he said that...The Revenue Act of 1964 dropped the tax rate from 91% down to 70%...If they were still that high Obama would be saying the same thing...
I wish that IDIOT in the White House now would realizethat cuting axes creates jobs, and Im talking about Barack Obama. He pretends that JFK didn't cut taxes in order to make his tax raising points.
To my knowledge, he never supported gay rights or called for universal health care. More Republicans supported the civil rights act of 1964 than Democrats. In fact, you guys still have a Klansman in your top Senate ranks.
Zell Miller is still a Democrat, but his beliefs no longer line up with the party platform.
If only the current administration would learn from history, and President Kennedy, instead of stubbornly repeating the same mistakes over and over, at our expense.

I'm a conservative and have been a fan of Kennedy because his policies were the next best thing to Jefferson. In his debates, he said he didn't believe in Big Government, he believed in Effective Government. @FloridaLiberal What conservatives do you know who belive that tax cuts are only good during an economic crisis? It just erks liberals that Kennedy, Reagan, Clinton, and Bush w. cut taxes and created economic growth. @mixmastermeeks If you have a massive budget deficit and you lower taxes you're a fool, period. Kennedy clearly says "IN THE ABSENCE OF AN ECONOMIC CRISIS".

@FloridaLiberal Kennedy disagreed.

Cutting taxes now is not to incur a budget deficit, but to achieve the more prosperous, expanding economy which can bring a budget surplus" JFK Nov 20th 1962. @DPEGSB You don’t know much history do you? The Democrats opposed civil rights and it would have never passed without the Republican leadership. The Democrats were the party of the KKK even in Kennedy’s time.
sscofield1018 10 months ago
@sscofield1018 Of course I know they opposed it, they knew supporting it would cause the southern faction of the party to abandon them which is why no Democrat (FDR, Truman or Johnson as Majority Leader) ever wanted to touch the issue. Its the main reason the party split once it was passed and the national party lost the south almost permanently. I have no attachment to the party, but to say JFK as an individual was more conservative than MOST Republicans today is still laughable.

DirtyHippeh 1 year ago 10

Painsandwich 1 year ago
@Painsandwich What people don't recognize is that you were able to deduct almost everything in taxes in the 1950's. So the super rich were not actually paying 90%. Even if you adjust for real dollars, the worlds wealthiest people back then, don't even compare to the amount of wealthy people we have today. The more investments, capital, credit we have, the more we will be able to create small businesses which employ 85% of the worlds workforce. I own a sb myself and I employ 11 people.

OKJGp
okjackgroup 1 year ago
@okjackgroup That is not a result of cutting the top tax from 91 to 35, but rather a Federal government spending far more than it takes in. Increasing taxes decreases what I have to spend. When I don't spend, businesses have lower profits. When businesses have few profits, they cut jobs. When businesses cut jobs, fewer people have money to spend to create even more jobs.

At the beginning of the century most Conservatives and especially southern conservatives were Democrat. And most Democratic politicians were conservative. All the way back to the civil war, Dems were against freeing the slaves.

@GZUS96 Don't tell me to learn my history when you're barely literate. Republicans have a long history of fighting for civil rights issues, and Democrats for opposing them. This is why you don't hear the Democrats talking about JFK's policies much because he was a fiscal conservative. i mean we the US revolted cause of the overbearing taxes too lol. But hey, I'm willing to concede the point if President Obama will institute an across the board tax cut like President Kennedy did. I'll say that it is different from what Reagan and Bush II did. Allowing the people to keep more of their own money will stimulate the economy and allow the people to be more free.
KiminRomania 2 years ago
David Greenberg sums it up much better then me. A demand-side cut rests on the Keynesian theory that public consumption spurs economic activity. Government puts money in people's hands, as a temporary measure, so that they'll spend it. A supply-side cut sees business investment as the key to growth. Government gives money to businesses and wealthy individuals to invest, ultimately benefiting all Americans.
game3525 2 years ago
Saying a tax cut is the "government putting money in the people's hands" is complete ridiculous. When you work and get paid that money is yours, the government takes some of your money in taxes, when government reduces taxes the government is not giving you money, the government is allowing you to keep more of your money.
kentmarty 2 years ago
Relating Keynesian Stimulus to tax cuts is complete ignorance. Tax cuts do not equate to the government giving people money. Also, Bush II tax cuts were not supply side because they expire after 2010. Supply side tax cuts are permanent (as JFK said in this clip). Also, tax rebate checks (which Bush II used multiple times) are not supply side, they are Keynesian because it is the government giving people money and calling it a tax rebate, it is not a permanent tax cut.

A tax cut is a tax cut.

It's Bush's fault Kennedy said that!

When combined tax contributions exceed 51%, we can rightfully consider ourselves enslaved by Government.
This is NOT the way the system was designed. Its death by 1000 paper cuts: Each time Liberty is lost, we suck it up and move on.
LetonBrain 2 years ago
With King George they rebelled at 14 % total taxation or something like that.
asicit2b 2 years ago 2
A Democrat proposing a tax cut is a welcome, but ancient and extinct practice.
BamaChris 2 years ago
Democrats do believe in tax cuts, just not for people earning 10 million a year
fenderboy88 2 years ago
Democrats do not believe in tax cuts. Taking money from those who earn it and giving it to those who do not even pay taxes is not a tax cut.
BamaChris 2 years ago 2
You seem to imply that teachers, mechanics, carpenters etc dont deserve a tax cut,why not?
fenderboy88 2 years ago
Tax cuts should be for people who pay taxes. Other than that, it is simply legalized robbery.
BamaChris 2 years ago 2
Are you saying that 'average middle class and working class people are all bludgers and dont work, you seem to imply that its there fault,i agree that people who dont pay taxes shouldnt deserve tax cuts but ''middle class people whjo actually work deserve a break
fenderboy88 2 years ago
No, I am not saying that at all. All taxpayers need and deserve tax cuts.
BamaChris 2 years ago
@BamaChris
You have it backwards.
Taxes are legalized robbery.
seth917 1 year ago 9
I dont believe democrats believe in giving tax cuts to people on welfare as you suggest, there are people doing it hard at the moment, its mostly people who earn less than 250000 that wont have taxes raised but it will be interesting to see if Obama keeps that promise
fenderboy88 2 years ago
He won't. He can't, especially if he gets all of the programs that he wants. Remember that Clinton did the same thing: promised a middle class tax ut, and then, not only did he not cut middle class taxes, but he raised them substantially.
BamaChris 2 years ago
@fenderboy88 "I dont believe democrats believe in giving tax cuts to people on welfare as you suggest" If you're on wellfare then you don't pay taxes. If you make less than 50,000 you don't pay. Yeah it comes out of your paycheck but you get it back and then some in your refund. When I was making less than 50,000 about 2,000 a year was coming out, but then I would get all these tax credits and so on and end up getting like 5 or 6 thou in a refund.
GZUS96 1 year ago
@fenderboy88 My buddy whom was high up in the company I worked for made about $5000 a week. He usually ended up paying when he filed and when he didn't he would only break even. Rich folk don't get a refund and that is not right. There should be a fair tax implemented, everybody pays the same percentage and you get nothing back that would be fair and right. Did you know that those "evil top 2%" rich people pay 80% of all the tax revenue collected. So yeah when there is a tax they should get more
GZUS96 1 year ago
@fenderboy88 Yes but those people pay 80% of the tax revenue. So isn't fair that they get a break too. Besides I never got a job from a poor man, and when you raise taxes for those milionaires they then in turn have less to invest back into their companies and eventually can't higher more employees. The tax code right now is unfair it should be the same % for everybody and you get nothing refunded.
GZUS96 1 year ago
@GZUS96 I agree with you, over the last few months i have changed my position on so many positions that i abandoned my leftist positions and have become more Libertarian.
I think EVERYBODY regardless of income should get tax breaks[including the rich] wealth should not be punished.
fenderboy88 1 year ago
@fenderboy88 Another point I would say is this the vast majority of peoples financial state is of their own doing including my own. I have been blessed on several occassions in my life with a financial boost. I was rewarded with $20,000 in a law suit when I was 11 yrs old. Which my parents weren't alowd to touch so they put it in CDs and other high interest baring accounts. When I was 18 and given access to the money I had about $80,000. I squandered it.
GZUS96 1 year ago
@GZUS96 A friend of mine whom was involved in the same law suit and got the same settlement though his parents judt put it in a savings account he had about $31,000 when he turned 18. He took that money and put all of it into AOL this was back in 1996 when we turned 18. He has been financially independent ever since. I have read where people started corporations from way less money than I had at 18 and are millionaires now. So I am in the financial situation I am on now and it is 99% my fault.
GZUS96 1 year ago
@GZUS96 So the majority of people are either rich or poor or middleclass mostly by their own doing. That was not the first time I have been given a financial boost. From 2006-2009 I worked over seas making well over $100,000 a yr. Before I went I had only one debt a car payment of about 300 a month. I am now in more debt and actually in a worse financial state than before. MY FAULT. However you handle your finances poor will be the exact same way you handle them rich. But der R always exceptions
GZUS96 1 year ago
@GZUS96 Also wealth cannot be redistributed because wealth is usually created, many on the left dont realise this.
With regards to people at the bottom, put them on a ''flat tax'' which would put them on a guaranteed mimumum income, this would render the minimum wage useless and would also abolish food stamps, but this has to be done the right way.
fenderboy88 1 year ago
To call Obama a centrist is laughable! Clinton moved to the center only after it was obvious that's where he'd get the most votes. I also highly doubt he cut the federal budget by 50%. That doesn't wash. Maybe one thing at one time was cut 50% but the entire federal budget was cut 50%, I can promise you that is untrue without even needing to look it up. This video demonstrates how far democrats have gone left. To deny that is funny. Now dems think higher taxes will boost an economy!
aSingleDallasGuy 2 years ago
Where did you prove me wrong? Where did you disprove the notion that Kennedy cut taxes on those EVIL, GREEDY, RICH PEOPLE!
You called me a "hard line right winger". I guess. I'm definitely not a neo-con. I prefer to not be labeled but if I had to, I'd say Conservative Libertarian would be most fitting.
Goldwater voted against the Kennedy tax cuts because he felt we should not cut taxes before we pay for them (even if they eventually pay for themselves). He was a different kind of conservative.
Americaisgreat123 2 years ago
You keep insulting me saying that I don't understand history but you have yet to take something I've said and prove it wrong. If you like history, I have some video's where I rate the best and worst President of U.S. history. You might enjoy it. Feel free to comment on what you disagree on. I am sure there will be a few picks that rile you up.
Americaisgreat123 2 years ago
He lowered tax cuts on the rich. From 90% to 70%. I repeat myself, argue the numbers. I'm trowing your childish class warfare rhetoric in our face and you want to just avoid it.
How can the government provide money for middle class workers? The government only has money it takes from the people. Gah, I hate political rhetoric. It is so damn useless in reality.
Americaisgreat123 2 years ago
You have to be pretty radical to think Obama is a centrist. He will be as far left as he can possibly go. Clinton was a centrist in the aspect that he had no backbone so that if the tide of popular opinion turned towards conservatism, okay, he'll balance the budget, pass welfare reform, lower the capital gains tax and support free trade.
Barry Goldwater is like the founder of libertarian republicanism. He went a little crazy towards the end, but was far, far more conservative than today's Reps.
Americaisgreat123 2 years ago
Kennedy lowered the top marginal tax rate from 90% to 70%. Argue with the numbers.
Americaisgreat123 2 years ago
Kennedy didn't hire Marxist/Communist czars to be in his administration.
WhereDidItAllGo7 2 years ago 2
When I tell people that democrats were once nothing like you see today, they are skeptical. But when you listen to this you all will understand that the democrat party has turned drastically to the left. They are much closer to marxism than capitalism today. JFK was not unusual by democrat standards of his day. Today he'd be considered a right wing nut by the democrats of this day. He may be a Kennedy but Teddy was not on the same page as JFK ever!
aSingleDallasGuy 2 years ago
Taxes were 91% on the rich when he said that...The Revenue Act of 1964 dropped the tax rate from 91% down to 70%...If they were still that high Obama would be saying the same thing...

3dartistguy 2 years ago
JFK gave tax cuts to the rich.
Americaisgreat123 2 years ago
So JFK would be a Republican today if he was still alive?
fenderboy88 2 years ago
If he had stayed consistent then his ideology would be closer to that of moderate Republicans than liberal Democrats.
