My neighbor is a chef. They moved out all of a sudden, and other neighbor thought their house was foreclosed. I started searching and found there are a couple more in my area.
A whole housing development in the area, -they couldn't sell the houses, so they were renting them, but the owner wasn't paying payments with the rent money. As in many other cases, everyone was forced to relocate.

I live in an area of central Mass. that lost electricity for several weeks from the Dec. ice storm. Thousands (probably tens of thousands) of trees were damaged. Yesterday a truck pulled up with 2 guys who came up from Alabama looking for tree cutting work. Today a few guys from Wisc. did the same. It's been this way every day - guys looking for tree cutting work from around the country.
Wow. What happens when people in MA loose jobs? MA's unemployment offices are SWAMPED, they assign certain days for certain SS #s now and still don't manage to answer the phone. Boy this is a good time to get out or rethink priorities at the least.
I'm on it...getting out of MA is a priority. Our state budget deficit is huge and more state funding cuts are coming down the pike. It's going to be brutal and lots more layoffs to be announced as well.
I live in the Mid Hudson Vally in New York. We lost power for 4 days. Though we were fine because we have gas generator, outdoor grills and some small-scale solar equipment, it was still interesting to see other people's behavior.
Do you know what a lot of people did? They immediately left when the power went out and stayed in hotels. They couldn't "hack it", not even for 24 hours.
I am not looking forward to the next 6-12 months, as far as mass psychology goes.
Trazom...same here in Central MA, most stayed in hotels if they didn't have friends or family to stay with. One of my neighbors (old timer) stuck it out for 8 days. The greatest generation has the mindset, experience and skills to do so. We have much to learn from them. It was the worst storm he had seen in 38 years.

I dont want to break up your illusions but the current crisis is largely due to the attempt of trying to keep a working class on the US territory. The US territory is now one (if not the) of the territories that have been transfered most wealth on. This has a consequence: it is one of the most valuable territories in the world. Do you think that a machine operator can afford living in a Ritz Palace? Well, because the US territory has achieved Ritz palace status.
Those stats on the food price increases just plain can't be correct. I have a photographic memory, and I KNOW FOR A FACT that my peanut butter went from 3.39 to 4.29, my rice 2.99 to 4.29, and my canned garbanzo beans 99 cents to 1.49. Granted, these are all organic items, but prices on conventional food are rising just as fast. Maybe I just don't get this "new math" but those increases I mentioned are in the 25-50% increase range!

Gold's value comes from scarcity and the inability to create it out of thin air (like electronic dollar transfers). It's uses are limited, but it's easily transported and stored. I like domestic oil reserves as an investment, for many reasons to long to list here. Current prices for these assets are depressed and should be considered.
Don't forget to stock up now on canned soup, pasta, pasta sauce, chicken and tuna, etc.. They have a 2-5 yr.+ shelf life, and are cheap right now.

I was thinking if the states start giving IOU's for tax refunds, then why wouldn't the people give IOU's for taxes the states say they owe personally, etc.?
I'm in Wa State, so not sure how the state tax thing works, but if are deductions for state taxes, i would probably start looking into changing it, so the state only gets what should get & no extra

If you want the new president to take you seriously you should take down the 'Ron Paul' sticker. He might listen to his sheep but the independent thinkers are 'way too out there' for him.
You should write out your speeches, practice them and do multiple recordings to get it right. You could have given much more detailed and succinct information in less than 5 minutes. 1/2 hour is way too long.
In short, practice, practice, practice and deliver a polished product.

My neighbor is a chef. They moved out all of a sudden, and other neighbor thought their house was foreclosed. I started searching and found there are a couple more in my area.
A whole housing development in the area, -they couldn't sell the houses, so they were renting them, but the owner wasn't paying payments with the rent money. As in many other cases, everyone was forced to relocate.
Meanwhile, 20 mi away, house prices are soaring... lol. Talk about crazzzzy.

I just dont see how touting 'hope' will change anything. The problem is debt and it cannot be fixed with more debt to try and encourage more credit spending (bad).

I live in an area of central Mass. that lost electricity for several weeks from the Dec. ice storm. Thousands (probably tens of thousands) of trees were damaged. Yesterday a truck pulled up with 2 guys who came up from Alabama looking for tree cutting work. Today a few guys from Wisc. did the same. I live in the Mid Hudson Vally in New York. We lost power for 4 days. Though we were fine because we have gas generator, outdoor grills and some small-scale solar equipment, it was still interesting to see other people's behavior.
Do you know what a lot of people did? They immediately left when the power went out and stayed in hotels. They couldn't "hack it", not even for 24 hours.
I am not looking forward to the next 6-12 months, as far as mass psychology goes.

The greatest generation has the mindset, experience and skills to do so. We have much to learn from them. It was the worst storm he had seen in 38 years.

What is an "artificial job"? And how will creating jobs hurt America? I guess that would be an easy statement to make if you're not unemployed. No matter what currancy is used; work equals profits and recovery. The reason our economy is f'ed up is not due to the working class. It's those who don't work but control our money that have robbed us blind. It's time that Americans turn down the prospect of easy money for nothing and get back to earning what they make.

I dont want to break up your illusions but the current crisis is largely due to the attempt of trying to keep a working class on the US territory. The US territory is now one (if not the) of the territories that have been transfered most wealth on. This has a consequence: it is one of the most valuable territories in the world. Do you think that a machine operator can afford living in a Ritz Palace? Well, because the US territory has achieved Ritz palace status.

Those stats on the food price increases just plain can't be correct. I have a photographic memory, and I KNOW FOR A FACT that my peanut butter went from 3.39 to 4.29, my rice 2.99 to 4.29, and my canned garbanzo beans 99 cents to 1.49. Granted, these are all organic items, but prices on conventional food are rising just as fast. Maybe I just don't get this "new math" but those increases I mentioned are in the 25-50% increase range!

Brinker and other economist are probably trying to get us to start buying again to prop up the fiat money. I just heard circuit city went completely bankrupt today. 34,000 jobs gone.

Gold's value comes from scarcity and the inability to create it out of thin air (like electronic dollar transfers). It's uses are limited, but it's easily transported and stored. I like domestic oil reserves as an investment, for many reasons to long to list here. Current prices for these assets are depressed and should be considered.
Don't forget to stock up now on canned soup, pasta, pasta sauce, chicken and tuna, etc.. They have a 2-5 yr.+ shelf life, and are cheap right now.

Currently, I see more the western world heading for a land ownership style of society, a bit like nobility in middle ages in Europe. So people selling this kind of capital might as well get their ticket for serfdom. So please let me know about that.

Ditto. I see people that have had a very prosperous business, and right now they are hurting bad. Basically no work. They owe a few thousand on house payments per month with no way to pay. From great prosperity to this.
I wish Obama all the best. I hate to say this but I see no good in the future ahead of us, I see great confusion in the Oboma administration with no real direction. Only ideas that won't work. What amazes me is people just don't realize what's going on.

But surely shutting down all state prisons would do the trick? That, too, would only get him about a quarter of the way there.
Now what if he were to close every prison and cut off funding for health care and other services for the poor? Now we're in the ballpark.

I'm in Wa State, so not sure how the state tax thing works, but if are deductions for state taxes, i would probably start looking into changing it, so the state only gets what should get & no extra
