Still fascinated by this hymn. It's a sublime funeral march of sorts. Emotionally gutted, death rattle, 'Bolan likes to rock now', rearing to revive but feeble in his attempt. Main man may be a retort. A rebuke or retort. Hauntingly beautiful, hauntingly sad. Just wow really. Bolan's music is all about feelings. No wonder the poetic types feel awed. Like if you're a poet of the C21st. :)
Certain music can put you in touch with your inner being. LOL Bolan's music is rather like a tsunami on tiptoes, inconspicuously engulfing your heart.
I've come to the realization that there are only 2 days to every week. On days when when your heart and body are in raptures, those are "Metal Guru" days. On days which occupy the mind and put you in a pensive mood, those are "Main Man" days. Plus, Bolan's 'Great Horse' is the lullaby of all time.
Marc Bolan the most underrated Rockstar ever...sad! He was a great musician and wrote a lot of good music. He was charismatic, charming and had a great stage presence and his music is timeless. Thank's for your legacy Marc, you're never forgotten.
@rexmania77 Keep saying it, I can't hear it enough times! Yeah, me too, it was so sad even though I wasn't alive. Timeless music, wonderful person, I love him!
I had The Slider album for my 6th birthday. I adored T.Rex, but I never understood the lyric "Bolan like to rock now, yes he does.." I thought (in my childhood innocence) that he was signing about being on a rocking chair which was a distinctly uncool image, especially when Val Donnican was on telly in a rocking chair at the time! After T.Rex I loved ABBA. As equally good songsters!
I saw TRex in a double bill with theJeff Beck Group in Portland about 1974? Awesome show..I always wonder who would have been bigger, Bolan or Bowie if Marc Hadn't died.
To my ear, this is a hymn which is deeply anti-establishment, and in such a subtle way causes reactionary vs trance-like feelings that culminate into a feeling of despair.
Indian Raga Bolan style. Dysfunctional lyrics set to a repetitive yet progressively intensified warp combine to present us with a feeling of utter freedom as logic and reason are set free, but the easy beat, the melody, is so physically demanding posing a counter-weight and causing us to feel locked in. This composition is nothing short of genius.
@DAVWAVE I saw T.Rex in concert 3 times in the 1970's. Marc Bolan was a fantastic performer. He really loved his fans. The crowd during the sold out Truck Off tour in 1974 rivalled Beatlemania. The last time I saw him was on the Dandy in the Underworld tour in March 1977 just 6 months before Marc's death. The band were outstanding and blew The Damned off the stage. Sadly, sadly missed.
@andytrex That is great to hear about the concert and that you got to see them. And I knew Marc was making a commercial comeback right before Gloria accidentally bumped him off...sad indeed.
loved the music...bolan was the main man...electric warrior, boppin elf and slider,,,rock n roll great with just a twist of fate.you ravaged the runes of my tunes.x
Yes everybody should have the slider, every track is really speciell and I never forget even if i was only 10 year, My dad was musicians and my first Lp Was this, my dad was a proffs and I learnd so much from marc bolan Love
I first bought the album for the Bang a Gong song and fell deeply in love with these guys. This came out in 1968 and is even better now than it was back then. This holds sooo many memories for me. R.I.P. Marc
This is from The Slider, 1972. I cannot say which one is better, as someone said, everyone has a special touch, Bolan was a genious, very underrated by music crtitics who mix his personal stuff ( drugs, tax evasion, married w/Gloria a black w0man, Rolan his boy) with his music. He was, and he is, at same level of Dylan, Lennon or any other influential music of XX century.
Soo nice just love it! Marc is out of this world! I know my doughter would love him but she and him are at same place now, I lost my doughter when she was 14 but i know she hade loved him. Marc is so timeless and even before his time i hope we meets again and i hope you fogive my english, I´m from Sweden. Love/peace
Big Bowie fan here, just getting into Marc. Amazing to see how much this guy influenced Bowie. Or maybe vice versa? I know this guy died much too early.
One of my favorite T Rex songs. I love it better on the album when t goes from the kick ass ending of Chariot Choogle right into this. If you're a T Rex fan at all you know exactly what I'm talking about.=)
In the out take version of this song Marc sings about Jimi Hendrix, how he played a mean guitar and now is gone...I thought that was interesting the other day when I heard it...
MAIN MAN und natürlich GET IT ON ROCK ON
Thank you for sharing this amazing song. T - Rex was at the height of their popularity about when my father was 16 so I can't say I really identify with the time or the culture but something about Marc Bolan's music strikes a key inside of me, especially since the passing of my father about 7 years ago. What a visionary Marc was, taken well before his time.
I'm 16 and I've just begun listening to Marc Bolan's music. the first song i heard was 20th Century Boy and I've been listenin since then. I have to say, for some reason his songs soothe me.
I was about 8 (is it strange to dance so late?) in the late 60's, when I first heard Bolan's music and from that point his music just grew under my skin. Now some 40 years later it sounds ever so fresh and even better than back then when I was a kid. He really is my MAIN MAN and always will be. What a beautiful music and what a beutiful man...thanx for sharing this masterpiece!
@CAR18MEN I totally agree whith yoy, my english is bad bau I try=) Marc understod everything, and I try his strength, I wanna screem listen to Marc and find your roots, even if its hardrock. Today I like Greenday and Metallica and its only beacuse of Marc
I must find a specelly sound and there are not many who can deliver that
@meotoko77 NO I dont´t! if you dont´nt mean my english?
Marc Bolan is my first musiclove, as child, and teenage, I t was the only way my father who was a musicer find out to get me interested! First piano, and so on, so on!
Marc Bolan openend my heart for different type of music and today I can´t even count all band and artist Ilove, I toke only Metallica and Green day as example.
So thanks Marc, I know You are around us always!!!! Love
I'm 23 and I recently discovered T-Rex too. I saw them on VH1, and when I heard 20th Century Boy I was like "OMG!!! What have I been doing all my life without this wonderful music?!" I love Bolan's voice, his lyrics, his style, everything.
Love Marc but this is one of his weakest songs for me. It has a nice tune and feel but the words are a bit too throwaway. Sorry, it's only an opinion!
One of the greatest songwriter's ever. Rather then make abstract songs weird, he made them into brilliant masterpieces. This is one of my all time favourites.
Let's put it this way: If they sent me away to spend my life alone on a deserted island and told me I could take a cd player and one artists collection...it would most likely be Marc Bolan's!
This is a tribute to David Bowie. Then, Bowie did a tribute to Marc...after he was killed....Lady Stardust. So, so, sad. Loving you, Diamond Eyes. Peace in your spirit cuz so many of us love you here.
But 'Lady Stardust' is a song from 'The raise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'..the album came out in 1972-73..Marc died in '77. I'm afraid you are wrong.
Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman provide the perfect foil to Marc's voice, as essential to the T. Rex sound as Visconti's serendipitous strings. Marc and the Turtles should sing together, you know what I mean, To hear them sing is something of a dream, Do you know what I mean?
I love sticking songs on here that noone has, but i feel the clip are reruns... I dont know if ill do anymore... unless i learn how to to this better..
i love this song and band

One of the greatest songwriter's ever. Rather then make abstract songs weird, he made them into brilliant masterpieces. This is one of my all time favourites.

When Bolan was 'on' it just simply didn't get any better. 'Are you a god man, are you a frog man' just totally blows me away everytime I hear it.

Yeah I agree. What a weird line to use in a song. It fits perfectly though.

I'm sure Mr. Depp is aware of Mr. Bolan. I do wish Depp would consider a flick before too long. Who knows who it's up to.

So, do you like him? and if so how high is he on your list of favorites.

I love this song. Probably in my top 10.

Let's put it this way: If they sent me away to spend my life alone on a deserted island and told me I could take a cd player and one artists collection...it would most likely be Marc Bolan's!

Hey i heard a remix album with a bunch of t-rex tracks is coming out in a cuple months has anyone heard of it?

I stand corrected. I found that info on the net, so someone wrote that wrong, eh? Anyway, thanks for letting me know and have a good week to all.
skilski2003 4 years ago
Yes,someone wrote wrong.Anyway 'Lady Stradust' was a tribute to Marc Bolan, but not for his death.
misty210782 4 years ago
lady stardust was done 1st main man came after

This is a tribute to David Bowie. Then, Bowie did a tribute to Marc...after he was killed....Lady Stardust. So, so, sad. Loving you, Diamond Eyes. Peace in your spirit cuz so many of us love you here.
skilski2003 4 years ago
But 'Lady Stardust' is a song from 'The raise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars'..the album came out in 1972-73..Marc died in '77. I'm afraid you are wrong.

Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman provide the perfect foil to Marc's voice, as essential to the T. Rex sound as Visconti's serendipitous strings. Marc and the Turtles should sing together, you know what I mean, To hear them sing is something of a dream, Do you know what I mean?
DAVWAVE 4 years ago 2
I sure do.
