I've never been pregnant, but this song brings me to tears every time I hear it. How she compiled so much hurt, betrayal and abandonment into one song (which I think she wrote at 17), I will never know. MF's version is equally chilling, an older voice still living that pain.
I disagree. I'm a huge fan of Marianne AND Dolly. Of course, credit goes to Dolly for writing the song. Having said that, I believe both version are incredible, but for different reasons. Dolly's voice is so beautifully sad and wistful, while Marianne's version sounds significantly more jaded - she puts her own spin on it.
No need to turn it into a contest when both ladies can win! ^_-

This song is just one of the reasons that proves Dolly is absolutely brilliant and prolific. I can't love her enough.
