This whole collection is awesome....................it shows the more creative, experimental side of TFF.......................and proof that b-sides can be true gems at times.
I read somewhere that Roland Orzabal had electro shock treatment in therapy as a kid,, fortunately it didnt destroy his creative brilliance. The use of audio from the film "sybil" and the line from Hamlet "Devil hath the power to assume a pleasing shape" make this a piece of dark gothic brilliance. All this and Rolands name, remind me of the dark epic poem "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower came" by Browning. Justin Bieber isnt fit to shine Rolands shoes..
The hidden gem of gothic music that I've never heard in all the dungeons ,dark clubs and the like . It is exsactly what gothic music should have been but never was .
This song had such an impact on my late teen years. It was darkly beautiful and artistic is ways that I never knew could be done in audio form. When I first became obsessed with this piece I likened it to one becoming obsessed with a great Dali painting. It was Audio dali to me.
If you slow this down a bit it sounds way cooler, like down to 33rpm from a 45rpm. I have it slowed down on a cassette from years ago and it still sounds great. Just an idea. I like to share :-)
It's an interesting B-side which could have been released on the actual album- 'Songs from the Big Chair'. It's Sally Field's voice in the beginning (taken from the film called 'Sybil')

This was one of those rare 45's, yes 45, that the flip was better than the main song. Very cool!

@hoodhouse
I did exactly the same, played it at 33 and recorded it on tape! I always thought it sounded better slower, more menacing.
