Thanks for replying.....i recognized the rounds but is was the 2 bottom layers that i didnt. were they 2-----9x13. or did you use one size cake pan and cut it in half??? I just want to make sure i do it right. THanks again
You're welcome! I believe they were rectangular pans cut in half, but I can't remember exactly what size they were. The shoe you make may be a different size than the one I made, but it's fairly easy to just eyeball the size of pan you'll need. I usually bake 2 rectangular pans and then cut those in half and stack'em. :)
Thank you so much! Glad you liked it! ;) I'm sure your cake will come out awesome. For your other comment, the cake pans I used to carve the shoe out of was 6" rounds for the top part and I think 10" rounds for the bottom... Thanks again! :)
This is amazing. Thank you for showing how you shaped the cake. I have been planning on making a tennis shoe cake for my daughter and hadn't quite figured out how to do it. I appreciate you sharing these pictures!
Hi Laura! Quick question. Did you cover the entire shoe in fondant and then go back and trace the lines and embelishments in? I am doing my first tennis shoe and just carved, now not sure if I should cover the whole shoe first then go back and embelish....anyway I am going to put it back in the fridge and hope to hear from you. Thanks and great shoe...you always do great work.
great job. I would like to know what kind of cake you made like chocolate or german chocolate. Do you make your own cake mix's and how long did the whole cake process take? I just started making cakes and just want to do a good job.
Thank you! This was a chocolate butter cake. Yes, all my cakes are made from scratch. This cake from beginning to end took about 2 days to make. Glad you liked it! ;)
hola laurita muchas gracias por contestar mi pregunta. un besito y como siempre estan de lujo tus pasteles eres mi inspiracion para echar a volar mi creatividad. muchas gracias y ojalá algún dia conocerte en persona. buen día
I have a question, When you paint on a cake you use gel food coloring and vodka right? And does it leave the cake tasting like vodka? Thanks! Oh and P.S. That is a really great cake!
Wow Laura awsome job! It looks great. I love that you take pictures of the cake step by step it gives us all ideas of how to make the cake. Very helpful and I love that you are always so willing to help others with questions on their cakes.
Wow Spikey! (no room for spikes on this one though!)
I love it, it's really clean, I love the way it turned out, it's adorable! How funny, I just read that Rebecca was wearing the shoes when you delivered the cake ha ha.
Awesome job, you'd never guess it was your first go at a shoe...or any of your firsts for that matter. you're one taaaalented lady!
Thanks girlfriend! I'm sooooo happy you liked this cake! :) I wanted so BADLY to put spikes somewhere but the cake kept screaming NO!!!!!! Hahahaha! Oh well, the next one will get spike overload! LOL! :) Hope all is going great down under! Can't wait to see your next cake! :)

Thanks! No it doesn't taste at all like anything other than the delicioius fondant. :) The alcohol immediately evaporates leaving no trace behind. :)
