i was going to ask something along similar lines - if one does not want to give them any commercial sugar in any form, is it possible to just leave some honey in the hive for them during the rest of the year and if so, how much percentage-wise could one take for oneself and still leave enough for the bees to survive?
@Maugirl2 You should not take away all the honey the bees produce. They need some to get through the autumn. Any honey still in the hives at the start of September we left in. The fondant is there simply as a back up to the bees' own honey. If you don't want to feed them sugar, you will have to take far less honey from the hive.
Thank you Jonathan. Your vids are always so informative, keep up the good work:)
