Looks like there are some knowladgeable people here. I am looking at an 07 KX250F for $1500. Bike is absolutely mint, except it backfires every kick for 4 or 5 kicks, and eventually it will fire up for about 5-10 seconds and runs "like a 2 stroke" as the guy put it, and dies out. I was thinking timing.... maybe it needs valve shims?
@g420champ check your valve clearances and all connections to the airbox and carb,if all good there then its time to get into the carb probly a blocked pilot jet
Hey, I had him as a instructor at kawasaki training in Grand Rapids Mi. He invited our class to help at the Pontiac Supercross that weekend. This guy knows his stuff.
Sorry about the sound guys I have no idea what is wrong, nor do I have the original file anymore, as I uploaded this almost 4 years ago. What I do know is that I just watched it on my iPhone and there was perfect audio. Anyone know if I can save it somehow off my phone and re upload it or anything like that? Because if not then we are all just SOL I guess, sorry.
To be honest, I have no idea where the sound went or how to fix it. It was fine when I looked at the video 6 months ago, and I haven't changed anything since then. Any ideas anyone?
Thats ridiculous. Its like haveing a fucking baby. Checking valves,. oil changes, all this maintenence is crazy. Im switching to a 2 stroke. it wouldnt be bad if you had to do it evey 6 months or some thing but every 15 -20 hours? im not a retard but im not a mechanic wiz so its too much to be taking it all apart that often.
Yea its worth it u should check your valves every 15 hours u r lucky your bike has lasted that long i went a year (57.2 hours) and my engine seized on my 2005 yamaha yz250f i have a2009 kx250f now and i have to check it every 15-20 hours cause the engines in kawis r a lot more prone to seize if not maintained with in the manuals said hours same goes for suzuki and ktm honda u can usually get away with 30 hours yamaha 35-40
can someone please help me out. I have never gotten my bikes Valves adjusted and i think its about time i do. i have had the bike for close to 2 years. I have a Honda CRF150R. im going to be getting a KX250f here soon so is it even worth it?
Folks, I just bought an XR250 -89, the valves were tapping a tiny bit when I got it, seller mentioned it too, approx 2 hours later the bike just cut out suddenly, instantly, no compression and wont start of course, something broke down on me? Seller sounded trustful afterwards that it cant be anything serious, more like the handle that turns off/decompress the engine is doing something. When I tried "bump start" and engines spinning a little, the valve tapping sounded stronger! Thx for help!!!
what are the signs that valves need to be changed or adjusted? I just bought a 2006 kx250f and sometimes it backfires and i find it hard to start, are these signs that i need to do something with my valves?

@g420champ its a carb problem, either lack of fuel or too much fuel, check your plug and see if its soaked....

@JustRide626
Dont worry dude ride & enjoy your 4 stroke.I will do valve reshim for 70 bucks.Top end change for 100 bucks If you are close to me.
You know what the hardest thing on a 4 stroke is if dont own one.
You should have both in 2t & 4t in your garage.

Most of the time, the actual valves don't need to be replace just seats and guides. honda4life, sounds like it needs some adjusting to me.
