@KeepItFresh02 Yep. So right about 1:35 in the video, you'll see the song is playing and the two columns of orange lights are lighting up on the 4-track. All I would have to do would be to hit 'record' and 'play' on the 4-track and it would record.
ahhhh i didnt recognize that song at first.... it's in THE MACK!!! thats a seminal flick. a true key to understanding half of THE OUTKAST'S early lyrics!!!!
@GregoryGraveyard Yeah, the quiet sound is the tiny microphone on my camera (which is actually my phone). I recorded nice and loud, actually maybe a little too loud; the tape player sends a pretty hot signal and I had the record gain most of the way up on the MPC. The cool part about that is that it doesn't distort or clip, it just sounds really heavily compressed. So you can go really hot into the MPC on purpose for an effect. Classic Akai analog-digital conversion at its finest.
@GregoryGraveyard ya thats cool, i just didnt understand why your phone was picking up the sound of the tape just fine through the player on the left??? you didnt move that far from the speaker and the 2 levels were just so different. when im playing a source through the sampler and then sample it, they are the exact volume. thats why i asked about the record and playback levels??
@GregoryGraveyard Yeah I didn't move that far, but the mic on the phone has a really short range. Shorter than I expected actually. For future vids I'm going to use a proper camera and actually pipe a stereo signal into it. This was just a quick one I shot for a couple of friends the morning after my birthday party. Funfact: My friend made me an MPC cake for that party. Awesome. Check it out at the link in the video description.
can you record to tape?

@Redlinshifter Thanks! It is quite easy actually, especially if you have some familiarity with sampling and sequencing.
