  • On SSB the Adams will BLOW AWAY the S9! The S9 is a terrible drifter on SSB, worthless to me. On AM the knod does go to the S9. But dont get my started on the so called "top gun" processor thing. All it is is a thing to make the radio "swing" harder. It makes the finals toasty warm but gives the op an ego boost watching that thar' meter swangggg!!!

  • @TheZeke1974

The S-9 is still sold, ;-) Next project is a Cobra 138XLR for modification.

  • the magnum is a AM performer, known as one of the best cleanest loudest for am performance only.. SSB on the other hand.......well it will get u by. it drifts alot once warmed up as well on ssb..i dont know the Adams radio all tha well but im sure its not a AM performer like the s9

  • I have an old President Grant 858 chassis and the receiver is far better than any of the new stuff today. Its quiet and doesnt pick up the crap and noise like the newer radios..

  • @TheZeke1974

Indeed it's true. Newer CB's are mostly crap and a waste of money.

    Tnx for comment!

  • @TheZeke1974 Old rigs like the Adams will always sound cleaner than modern rigs, being narrow banded there is a noticeable absence of the white noise hiss present in the Magnum and similar wide band rigs.

That's the price you have to pay for the expanded coverage, although a good DSP add in like SGC, BHI or similar does a good job at reducing various types of interference, but makes an overpriced rig even more expensive taking you into "real" ham radio territory, price wise!

  • wow defynitly the magnum....

  • ADAMS WINS!!! I would much rather listen to the Adams. Not as much listener fatigue. I have done these tests as well......

  • the magnum is'much better

  • agreed

  • If the owner of the radios would have BOTH tuned properly then it would have been fair game to compare both radios.

  • A terrible comparison, the MAGNUM S-9 volume is louder, thus more white noise....had the PRESIDENT ADAMS volume been the same as the S9, there wouldn't be much difference.

  • i had the Magnum Delta Force , also an worse radio for SSB , lot of white noise .the S9 is nothing better, only good on the magnum radio's is the look and the tx power but the recieve quality is poor and noisy.

Stil using mij President Lincoln all over the year and give much better recieve signals then the magnum S9 and other models on SSB !

    73's 19DP872 Erwin The Netherlands

President Lincoln, Zetagi BV-135 and Sigma Montova 8 at 16meters top height.

  • In it's defence, for the AGC circuit to work effectively on the S9, you need the RF gain control at about 2 o'clock! Notice the S meter at S3 when there was no signal! Sadly the build quality of the controls let's this radio down which is a shame 'cos the TX audio is great.........almost as good as a Cobra 148 GTL-DX or President Grant! 73 & good DX

  • What can I say I've had a s9,i've had a Deltaforce, both gone and I swear by the old SSB and FM radios.........built better not to a price!!.........I snap nice boxed ones up when I see them...........DAVE in the UK.

  • Someone gave me an Adams and a Skyline SM-2010 today, but I don't know anything about these machines. I have several mics with it, but no antenna. I'd like to test them, but I can turn them on and change channels, but never receive anything. Someone any idea?

  • This is why i would not have a Magnum anything or a Striker 440 hp. For the most part the are completely the same radio and they both have this shitty ass receive!

    Thanks for posting this.

  • had the s9,had an adams years ago, still got my lincoln for mobile, icom 706g best of em all...happy new years to you,26tm048.

  • Hi, i have had both radios in my time, still got the Adams and that tells a storie, the S9 is total cheap rubbish, drifts all over the place, crap VFO and crammed with the cheapest componants you can find, DONT BUY A MAGNUM!!!!

    Great videos by the way.

  • Yes, the Adams is the best SSB cb-radio!

  • I agree. I never had an Adams but I still own a President lincoln that I have had for 15 years plus. Sweet radio and zero drift on sideband. I bought an S9 to try out. Complete garbage. Near worthless on sideband. Pretty blue lights and shiny knobs do not make a radio.

  • I think.... I'm sure that Magnum S9 is the best. I love S9. It's potent and affidable.

  • If you think the Magnum is the better radio then you sure as hell dont know the difference between a so so radio and an out standing radio.

Big power means shit if you cant hear someone far off! This is why only the super trucker/loud ass over modulated cbers are the ones who buys em,thats all there good for!

Any one who knows what makes a good radio would not have an S9 or Stryker 440hp ( same thing ) no matter how cheap they were!

  • the adams sounded better.

    43tm07

  • Hi!

Indeed, the S-9 sounds awful against the old Adams. The Adams is good old quality without microprozessor & much better.

    73s!
