  • Thanks for putting this up! What stands out for me is the narrator's voice: so deep and rich. Lines that are etched forever in my mind: "Huge, dinosaur-like war machines stomped their way across the snowy ground." "Han blasted it into a thousand fiery pieces!" "I want that ship." Nice. Ah, childhood.

  • John Williams : )

  • Thank you for not only posting this, but for putting it together so nicely. I feel like I did on my 10th birthday. This takes me back!

  • I have Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Ewoks Join The Battle. All of them with the 33 1/3 RPM records no cassette's.

  • LOL the "from atop a shaggy tauntaun" part brings back memories

  • I got this for my birthday from a kid I went to school with! this shit's bringing me back!

  • I haven't heard these words for some 26 years. Wow...

  • Avenger wasn't Vader's flagship but rather one of Death Squadron's escort Star Destroyers. Vader's ship was Executor.

  • I had this too, I wore the record out!!!

  • If Anyone Has A Read Along Clips Of The Black Stallion Or The Black Stallion Returns, Would Someone Please Upload It On Here.

  • I had this as a kid and loved it, even though it missed loads out and the voices are terrible!! Lol and i had Planet of the Hoojibs!! FFS!!! :0)

  • I had this as a kid and loved it, even though it misse loads out and the voices are terrible!! Lol and i had Planet of the Hoojibs!! FFS!!! :0)

  • OMG! Had this when I was a kid - and the proper story album featuring the original cast. sooooo many fond memories lol. I remember back then films took YEARS to come out on video and Empire seemed to take FOREVER. You had to wait for cinema re-issues, double (or triple) bills, the radio dramas (which were released a few years after the films) or these LP's and tapes. Fans of the film should also check out Adywans fan edit (due out later this year) - the trailers are on here also. Looking AWESOME

  • It sounds like Vader has a tank of helium attached to his mask. I wore the hell out of this record when I was a kid.

  • i love the way it cuts the story scenes in a 2 hour movie in less than 30 , min.love it....................

  • i luv the way it cuts to the best scenes a 2 hour movie in less than 30 min, ha,

  • Haha, I used to have one of these when I was a kid and I remember it was so much fun to listen to. How times have changed.

  • I had one of the earlier book and tapes by Buena Vista, which missed out the naff intro music.

  • I use to have that book long time ago but my tape got worn out and book got torn.

  • Please tell me what that music at the beginning the part where it is showing the yoda on the book

  • @TITANSMRS it was just stock library music that was used as the start of all these book and tape film tie-ins released by Rainbow.

Earlier book and tape releases by Buena Vista didnt have that music, plus they had all the story on one side, not split into two.

  • @DarkAngel182 Thankyou hun

  • dang i wish i still had mine

  • Do you have "Planet Of The Hoojibs, The Ewoks Join the fight, and Raiders of The Lost?

  • @Crazymike1975 I do!

  • I also had all 3 of them too..well, the first two on vinyl and Jedi on cassette. But, this certainly brings back a flood of memories.

I also had a different version that was larger (about the size of an LP) and actually had the real soundtrack from the films..including the real voices.

  • i just found my tape, are they worth anything? cant find them on ebay.think i had karate kid one too lol

  • I had all 3. Taped LL Cool J over Jedi

  • no matter what medium empire is presented in it still clearly comes across the best one of whole trilogy (all six included) hands down.

  • Wow. This brings back a lot of memories. I had all three Star Wars movies in these read-along books. Some of the voices for the characters are hilarious!

  • haha i had all the original star wars on tape. god this brings back memories

  • I had the French version dubbed by Dominique Paturel with the vinyl.......

  • This brings back memories as a kid

  • Holy Crap...I had a crap load of the read along books...practically wore them all out. My mom still has all of them.

  • You straight rule for uploading this.

  • Im 24 and had a ton of read along books as a kid they were actually a great tool for kids to learn to read common words like the I actually remember learning to read th books by memory.

  • hehehehehhehe nice

  • Never seen this book on tape. TIE fighters - That's the X wing's enimies spaceship!

  • I've still got mine. I used to play the thing over and over again, so-much-so that as I hunt and peck I'm reading along. What the youngsters don't realise is that back then, there were only two ways to experience the film; go to the cinema or listen to this, that's it, nothing else. There's none of the merchandise that's available now. The other Star Wars were 'Droid World' 'Planet of the Hoojibs' and 'The Ewoks Join the Battle'.

They did them for a lot of films.

  • @therookpiece And, at the time, movies on VHS were very expensive. They were primarily made with the intent for usage by rental places, not for home use, so they would cost 70 bucks or more per movie. That started to change around the late 80s. After that, it was a regular occurrence for people to buy movies on VHS, Laserdisc, DVD or Blu-Ray for home viewing, and they wouldn't cost nearly a 100 bucks.

  • @DarthMakaveliSithMC So true, here in the UK the Star Wars videos were like £15-20 ...that's like 3 or 4 dvds now, nevermind taking inflation into account. Still, Star Wars figures were cheap.

  • @therookpiece Yep, it was either these read along books, or even photonovels, or go to the theater again. Man, that was different era if their ever was one. I still have this book and tape, including A New Hope and Jedi as well. Heck I even have the audio LP of The Adventures of Luke Skywalker/Empire Strikes Back in pretty good condition still.

  • man this is awesome. im 32 and i still remember the intro to this read along.. it feels like only yesterday i heard it. i had one when i was 5!!!

  • always remember thinking how darth vader didnt sound anything like this..

  • Brilliant!

Damn, why did I throw everything away as a kid!
