Thanks for putting this up! What stands out for me is the narrator's voice: so deep and rich. Lines that are etched forever in my mind: "Huge, dinosaur-like war machines stomped their way across the snowy ground." "Han blasted it into a thousand fiery pieces!" "I want that ship." Nice. Ah, childhood.
OMG! Had this when I was a kid - and the proper story album featuring the original cast. sooooo many fond memories lol. I remember back then films took YEARS to come out on video and Empire seemed to take FOREVER. You had to wait for cinema re-issues, double (or triple) bills, the radio dramas (which were released a few years after the films) or these LP's and tapes. Fans of the film should also check out Adywans fan edit (due out later this year) - the trailers are on here also. Looking AWESOME
I also had all 3 of them too..well, the first two on vinyl and Jedi on cassette. But, this certainly brings back a flood of memories.
I also had a different version that was larger (about the size of an LP) and actually had the real soundtrack from the films..including the real voices.
Wow. This brings back a lot of memories. I had all three Star Wars movies in these read-along books. Some of the voices for the characters are hilarious!
Im 24 and had a ton of read along books as a kid they were actually a great tool for kids to learn to read common words like the I actually remember learning to read th books by memory.
I've still got mine. I used to play the thing over and over again, so-much-so that as I hunt and peck I'm reading along. What the youngsters don't realise is that back then, there were only two ways to experience the film; go to the cinema or listen to this, that's it, nothing else. There's none of the merchandise that's available now. The other Star Wars were 'Droid World' 'Planet of the Hoojibs' and 'The Ewoks Join the Battle'.
@therookpiece And, at the time, movies on VHS were very expensive. They were primarily made with the intent for usage by rental places, not for home use, so they would cost 70 bucks or more per movie. That started to change around the late 80s. After that, it was a regular occurrence for people to buy movies on VHS, Laserdisc, DVD or Blu-Ray for home viewing, and they wouldn't cost nearly a 100 bucks.
@DarthMakaveliSithMC So true, here in the UK the Star Wars videos were like £15-20 ...that's like 3 or 4 dvds now, nevermind taking inflation into account. Still, Star Wars figures were cheap.
@therookpiece Yep, it was either these read along books, or even photonovels, or go to the theater again. Man, that was different era if their ever was one. I still have this book and tape, including A New Hope and Jedi as well. Heck I even have the audio LP of The Adventures of Luke Skywalker/Empire Strikes Back in pretty good condition still.

Avenger wasn't Vader's flagship but rather one of Death Squadron's escort Star Destroyers. Vader's ship was Executor.

Please tell me what that music at the beginning the part where it is showing the yoda on the book
TITANSMRS 1 year ago
@TITANSMRS it was just stock library music that was used as the start of all these book and tape film tie-ins released by Rainbow.
Earlier book and tape releases by Buena Vista didnt have that music, plus they had all the story on one side, not split into two.
