I thought Pan Am had a flight from Sydney to Hong Kong, and then onto India and then into Europe? Maybe I am wrong.

Australia to Italy on Pan Am? That must've meant flying via the US with at least 2 extra stops (SFO/LAX and JFK) and additional flying time. No thanks, but I would've taken Qantas instead. I'm surprised that lady wasn't paraded around that fishing town in a stretcher.

@Jeteaime65 She could fly from Sydney via Bali to Hongkong and take PANAM to Rome via India & middle east.

Qanats also flew with a lot of stops, to Europe and around the world( Sydney-Honolulu-Mexico city-Bermuda-London).

PA didn't have flights between Sydney to Rome. From examining PA's Clipper Magazine route map dated May 1971, that Italian passenger probably would have flown Sydney to Honolulu, then to Los Angeles, Kennedy NY, and then on to Rome. If she went westward, she would have gone Sydney to Bangkok, then to Calcutta, to Karachi to Beirut, and then to Rome.

@Brac1 PANAM had a route,Sydney-Bali-Hongkong and from Hongkong you could take PANAM No.1 or 2 to Rome via India and Middle east. PANAM flew arond the world and probably had traffic rights between many places.
