  • So what's the verdict, did they survive the winter? (Also, great music to go with it.)

  • i made this vid with maybe the worst camera possible: the camera on the top of my computer! i'd love to try it again with a better camera.

  • theres prolly shit in that jar that you couldnt find anywere else in the world.

  • niceeeeee

  • Awesome Ive made 3 biospherese!

  • damn, biosphere music would fit perfectly in this video...

  • wow, awesome video showing the amazing diversity in just a jar. love the song too.

  • lol it looks like the spore cell stage

  • 7 months after my last comment:my biosphere is STILL, after 2 years, still doing fine.

  • mine is still alive, i think. a lot of the life dies in the winter when there is less sunlight, but it should return in the spring!

  • To Cool!

Hey, one of the spores looks like me!

  • thats what i was thinking! like actualy i was like damn thats like spore XD

  • my teacher put some dirt into this clear container which is air tight and it now has plants growing in it and they been in there and it has not been opened in like 6 years or so

  • kick ass im going out to buy something to contain it but i cant make it today because its too late to go down to the pond and get the stuff because i have to walk thru a forest to get to the pond and its getting dark out.

  • lol

  • mines STILL okay!

  • mines still going strong after a year straight

  • this shows u how important an ecosystem is when i had an eco jar and i introduced a baby fish in it the whole ecosystem was destroyed the fish ate all the organisms in the tank and the pnats 2 then the fish died and rotted and the ecosystem was destryoyed

  • Omg I had one just like this. I made about 30 last year for a science project and I only have one left. In it I have algae, duck weed , lake weed ,really weird looking snail-slug things, alot of freshwater North American Ochropods and these little white circular things that swarm around the bottom of the tank

  • hey i am just wondering if that biosphere is still alive...

  • yes,its still doing quite well

  • Is it still there? is it still alive? Just wondering since this is posted 7 months ago ;D

  • yup, still doing fine. Now Ive had it for exactly a year and Ive never needed to open it

  • nice now i want to make one of these things but were did you get the water? bird bath, pond, lake, river? tell me! pleese i want lotz of microbs in mine and plants... i love microbes exept for parisidic worms..

  • Some people say you have to use purified tap water, but I just used the water that I scooped from local pond.

  • Is there still something alive in there?

  • the plants are still alive, but I can't see any animals. There must be microscopic ones though, or else the plants wouldn't have any carbon dioxide.

  • well(i do realise this comment is very old but i like giving my 2 cents)plant cells have both mitochondria(cell organelle that produces CO2)and chloroplast(organelles that produce O2)so they would have some CO2 just not enough to sustain them for long(since they dont produce that much)good luck with the biosphere/ecosphere i plan on makng some myself a few too keep and a few to sell(they go for like 300 bucks on the internet so i can make a great profit)=D

  • I like the song, Modest Mouse is like my favorite band!!!

  • How long did ur biosphere last for?

  • It's still alive!

most of the little bugs are gone, but there are still some snails.

  • Now there are some more bugs! maybe they know it's spring.

  • impressive

  • thats really cool! i would make one of those, but i live in the city. no ponds (:(

  • ask a local pet store they have all kinds of water they get from there pet supply places that come with there pets.

  • Nice!

  • cool

  • Neat sphere man. What was the name of the song. I thought it fit very nicely.

  • It's "Float On" by Modest Mouse.

I thought of it because everything is floating.

  • that is really, really cool man! nice job!

i thought that snake like thing was extremely cool, is it still there?

  • I think so! its one of the only organisms that are still alive, I think. it and the snails

  • Nice how did you make it? I have been wanting to do this

  • I went to a local pond with a tupperware container and took a scoop of pond sludge and water. Look around and see if you can see any snails or other pond life. Then I took it home, added some pebbles and a seashell, and then sealed it!

My biosphere is still alive 11 days later but some of the microorganisms seem to have died off. The snails are flourishing, though!

  • Pretty sweet.

  • Thanks!
