I'm happy Wendy Bruce made the 1992 team, but Campi would've been a GREAT addition as well! She would've made our team a lot more legitimate. What a lovely gymnast
@bownlovingfreak I agree. Liked Campi much better than Bruce. I think Campi was on the team, but couldn't compete due to a hip injury. Could be wrong though.
@adventuregirl76 I agree with your original point but too say that Miller lacked elegance is bizarre. Miller's style was composed of elegance and preciseness and she responded to violin music very well, which was the reason he used it for all of her floor routines. However the composure of her floor routine at these worlds is not the best. I personally feel that Shannon lacked seriously in artistry, was that maybe what you were trying to get at?
Michelle Campi's dance and ability to captivate was innate. She had presence and knew how to make the public feel rousing music. She interpreted music. The music wasn't just playing in the background.
She had some similar qualities to Aurelia Dobre (ironically she had her bouts with devastating injuries as well). However, she never had an opportunity to shine because USA Gymnastics does not know what to do with gymnasts that are not powerful, technical or acrobatic.
Michelle Campi certainly was more captivating and had better than presentation than Kim Zmeskal and Shannon Miller.
Shannon Miller looked contrived and too deliberate when she performed to clasical music...Steve Nuno imposed that music and choreography on her because he wanted to get on the good side of the European judges.
This is brilliantly perforned, if you compare this routine to the one Theresa Kulakowski did in 1996, you will see why Michelle was such a special performer. What a pity she missed Barcelona, the USA would have had the silver for sure and maybe even challenged for gold!

they way she ran at the beginning looked weird >_>

She was definitely one of Bela's favorites because she didn't look like an American gymnast - she had a very European look to her gymnastics.
Bela really wanted her on the team, but was injured and didn't compete in Barcelona.

@fliptopla She was also one of his favorites because her coach was one of Bela's associates

She was lucky she got away with just a foot out on that first pass, she usually underrotated that pass.

Shannon should have observed Michelle Campi!

@shane802 It's not about being a "legend." It's about who was the better dancer...and that was Michelle, hands down.
