Prog Metal is more my sort of thing, so an Iron Maiden setlist full of badass 9 or 10 minute epics from their more recent albums is completely fine by me.
Lets end this whole arguement, Iron Maiden New Stuff vs Old Stuff: The winner is: BOTH! Because New & Old Maiden kick the shit out of every musician out there, just be glad we have had them for so long, and they are still awesome. HAIL IRON FUCKING MAIDEN. TRUE METAL!
Who gives a fuck about the set list? This is THE Iron Maiden. You should be glad you've gotten tickets when there are people who would kill for tickets
@DashH90Three you should be glad they even played sonisphere, i wish people wouldnt complain about the set list and just be glad they seen them live at all
i saw Them in michigan, US and it was my first concert! the only song i really wished they played was phantom of the opera, other than that i loved the setlist!
I was there. Honestly the best night of my life. And to everyone complaining about the setlist, they can play whatever they bloody well choose, there'll always be people that want to see them (ME) :) and besides apparently they're doing a 'greatest hits' tour after the final frontier :D
People just shut up about the set list. As the dude already said they played the Somewhere Back In Time tour last year. Don't be idiots. This was the best show of the weekend. I should know, I was four rows back
Im sorry but this set was awesome in the true sense of the word! Iron maiden were in the middle of the tour and i did not expect them to change there set, how else can the songs from the last ten years become classics? They played a really good mix i thought and my personal highlight was fear of the dark, which is an awesome song live with great crowd participation, also hearing Bruce say "scream for me Sonisphere!" was fricking amazing!! skindred were a highlight for me this year :D
@TheJellybelly82 so ture about the set list. i saw them at a fest in belgium with the same one (i think) and no more lies was so fucking amazing. ive seen the classics before so this was such a good change :D
this really pissed me of. Maiden arent a band that just go around repeating old song cos they cant be arsed to write new stuff, the setlist was awesome and its not their fault that people like you go to shows expecting to hear top 10 hits from 30 years ago then come away and compain, your clearly not a maiden fan. all the song they did are better than trooper and run to the hills just not as popular.

@maiden10101088 100% agree, they was the best band of the weekend by far! atleast there about the music and want to stay being relavent by writing new music, unlike certan bands that will have afew hits and just repeat them, maiden play what they want and don't care what people think, personly i respect that and it was better they didn't play their hits as their hits get boring always being played the less known stuff is much better :)
@DashH90Three I went on the somewhere in time tour and loved it AND i loved the setlist of this fest as i missed the brave new world tour .. so i was glad they did some rare gems from the latter era.. (been going to maiden gigs since 1999)
why the fuck are people pissed off with the set list?? they done a SOMWHERE BACK IN TIME WORLD TOUR about 2 years ago which lasted 18 months, if you wanted to go and see them play there old stuff then you should have gone to see that, that was the point of doing the tour. maiden have said time and time again over the past 5 years that there gonna play less old stuff and more new stuff.... its 2010 for fuck sake not 1983.... IRON MAIDEN = BEST BAND EVER
@matthewslim84 Yeah,I agree for they've played all those great songs on and on....OK. I understand that there's always new people gathering and finding their own Maiden all the time, and it's cool that IM gives us concert that all their fans enjoy...but then again there's always some live theme, especially when IM makes another memoramble album..
@matthewslim84 My point is that I think it's unfair for people like me who have never seen these guys live because then we don't get to see them perform their classics.
@ejl1000 No offense, but you should go to the classics tours which they do more now than the new era. These new songs are amazing. It's not unfair to anyone, they're not out to please people who want to see The Trooper or Run To The Hills which, to be fair, they play all the time. They play these songs because THEY want to. If you don't like it, don't go,
I'm aware that sounded far ruder than I intended to be. I apologise for that
@revan210 Ok, fair enough. To be honest, I've grown to like their newer stuff, especially since the release of the final frontier. Although I would rather see them play classics, since I have never seen them live before.
@ejl1000 Neither have I. But it's not like the last time they'll ever play them. They'll do them in a year or two. And plus, they played Running Free. That hasn't been played since 2005. That was fucking awesome :D
I get so annoyed at everyone moaning about the setlist! It's so ungrateful! I was so chuffed to just be there (even though I could hardly see them 'cause I'm a bit too short! xD) They must be pretty tired of playing songs like The Trooper and Run to the Hills now. I mean, they're still good songs, but playing new/ more recent songs keeps them fresh and energised. Personally, I reckon that most of the songs they have written in the past decade are classics anyway!
@Powerslave94 yeah man, couldnt of put it better myself.
Maiden are not just run to the hills and the trooper, as cool as them songs are they wouldnt even be in my top 100 best maiden songs. maiden have so much more to give, they have 30 years + of music... anyway, cant wait for july 2011, i have tickets to see them live in manchester and birmingham.... maiden rule

I am so pleased they played the setlist that they did! I never thought I'd get to hear some of the songs played live, so when they did play songs like Dance of Death and Blood Brothers I was almost crying with joy! I'm certainly not going to complain about Maiden not playing enough of their classic songs because to me, songs like No More Lies and Benjamin Breeg are just as classic as Hallowed Be Thy Name and Fear of The Dark are!
It was an AWESOME night! I LOVE THEM! UP THE IRONS!
i werent far behind mr camera man. near the tower thing. it was my first time seeing them so is an amazing memory but i would have liked to hear the trooper etc. nevermind. up the irons! \m/
I really enjoyed the set I think Maidens new material is fantastic. And over the last few years they have been showcasing material from various era's in particular the somewhere back in time tour. If they do play old stuff I wish it was songs they havent played for donkeys years like Charlotte the Harlot, Drifter, Where the Eagles Dare, Stranger in a Strange Land etc..... Brilliant Show they sounded awsome!!!
@deathtoleftys Yes I understand that, but not everybody has seen them tours. Fair enough with their own tours now playing the songs they want, but I just think a festival is a more special occasion where most people will want to hear their older stuff. It's like Metallica still play all their classics e.g Master of Puppets, Seek and Destroy yet still fit in the biggest songs from their latest album.
@niels977 I was pretty dissapointed in that way, they only had lights, and the lights were way too bright, Im not even a maiden fan though, Rammstein were the main band for me with all their pyro :D Look them up ;)
@niels977 Awh really? At Sonisphere everyone was into Rammstein when they were on ;) And yeah ^^ Like i said before im not a maiden fan, so i didnt watch all of Iron Maiden, i wouldve probably stayed a bit longer if they did have more of a show to it, as it was the last night of sonisphere ;)
I was right at the front being crushed to death, but it was pretty fun none the less. Alot of people complain about the crowd pushing and stuff. It's what happens. It's not a fucking Miley Cyrus gig. Second time I've seen them and last time they played all their old stuff, so I wasn't at all disappointed when they did some new stuff! Fear of the Dark was fucking EPIC though

I don't like to complain, but in my honest opinion, Maiden let me down big time. I was really looking forward to them and had heard they don't play a lot of their old stuff now, but I was hoping they would do for a festival. Having said that, when they did play songs I knew, they sounded amazing! Just a shame they didn't fit in The Trooper or Run to The Hills :/
@mighty12GTFC I can see why you're disappointed, but I was happy. I wanted to hear some of their older stuff, but I'm really glad that they aren't getting stuck in a rut and that they play some old stuff, but that they play a lot of their new stuff AND that it's good, people like it and that they're still churning out albums, it means that they're still going strong and I like that :)
@mighty12GTFC this really pissed me of.

@Steve24387169 Not everybody went to that though. I'm not having a go at Iron Maiden, I respect the fact there a band that want to move forward rather than live out the old stuff, but most people would have liked a few more of the classic Maiden stuff in the setlist.
@mighty12GTFC my opinion is that the set list is very very good and powerful!!the matter that they didnt play trooper and run to the hills its not a big deal because they are playing these songs all the time...they made a different set list so people can listen to different songs live that they havent played at all or just once like blood brothers,no more lies, wicker man, ghost etc....i think that they know better!!
@mighty12GTFC Well they did have an entire tour of classics 2 years ago... Ive seen them 3 times and although the classics are timeless i was very happy by this setlist as i missed the opportunity to see the brave new world tour and they played alot from that...
@mighty12GTFC i saw them at a festival in belgium and personally i thourt the setlist was fantastic, ive seen them do the classics 3 times already but to see them play things like blood brothers and no more lies was just fantastic :)
@mighty12GTFC I went to twickenham in 2008 where the played both trooper and ttth and it was fucking amazing, as was this show. I think the lack to 2 waay overplayed songs is no reason to get upset, theres always next time anyway.
@mighty12GTFC Think of the fans that like their newer albums but hardly ever get to see any of those songs live. Run to the hills and The Trooper get played on most tours so I think its pretty forgiveable for them to miss them out once in a while.
@F1NN3RZ dont talk bollocks, you chose to live near a venue that hosts concerts, if you dont like it then either complain to the council or move, dont come on here bitching about it
this was my 7th maiden gig and have to say maiden where boring as hell up untill the last 5 songs, they should have mixed it around more,i wasnt the only one saying there was loads of people around me saying it and down at the campsite, brillant stage set thou, weekend belonged to converge and slayer!!!
If Sonisphere make a proper clip of Maiden playing (which im sure they will), look for a black Final Frontier Maiden flag to the right of the delay hut (from the perspective of the stage), its the closest flag thats near the hut, im right in front of it ;D
I was up against the 2nd crash barrier, middle of the crowd, centre stage with a wheelchair... longest 2hrs of my life standing with sticks, in total agony, and worth every second!!
Awww man, I really wanted to be there. i love Iron Maiden and Rammstein and this is just like heaven. Iron Maiden sound brilliant and I just hope they do another concert again like this
@slavaken They'll be on tour again next year. It's still going to be the final frontier tour but with a new setlist since the new album will be out! Bruce said in an interview that they'll be playing about 5 new songs off the final frontier and the rest will most likely be classics. So if you wanted to hear all the new stuff they played this year, then thats too bad. Im glad I saw this years set with a bunch of stuff of the last 3 albums because they hardly play those!
YAAAAAY MAIDEN MAIDEN MAIDEN!! Was soo amazing and ear peircingly loud. I got given earplugs (thank you very much kind lady) but my ears are still ringing!!

@mighty12GTFC I went to twickenham in 2008 where the played both trooper and ttth and it was fucking amazing, as was this show. I think the lack to 2 waay overplayed songs is no reason to get upset, theres always next time anyway.

@mighty12GTFC then why didnt you see them on their last tour?!
jimsniper 1 year ago
@mighty12GTFC Think of the fans that like their newer albums but hardly ever get to see any of those songs live. Run to the hills and The Trooper get played on most tours so I think its pretty forgiveable for them to miss them out once in a while.

@F1NN3RZ dont talk bollocks, you chose to live near a venue that hosts concerts, if you dont like it then either complain to the council or move, dont come on here bitching about it

If Sonisphere make a proper clip of Maiden playing (which im sure they will), look for a black Final Frontier Maiden flag to the right of the delay hut (from the perspective of the stage), its the closest flag thats near the hut, im right in front of it ;D

slavaken 1 year ago 4
@slavaken They'll be on tour again next year. It's still going to be the final frontier tour but with a new setlist since the new album will be out! Bruce said in an interview that they'll be playing about 5 new songs off the final frontier and the rest will most likely be classics. So if you wanted to hear all the new stuff they played this year, then thats too bad. Im glad I saw this years set with a bunch of stuff of the last 3 albums because they hardly play those!
