Hey, I've reviewed the soundtrack for this film in depth on my blog. it's seanferricksstories . blogspot. com and I've gone into a bit of detail on what I feel is an excellent entry to the series. (I consider this the last film in the franchise. Alien Resurrection shouldn't have happened!! Shudder. Lets not bother discussing *those other films*) Check it out guys, see what you think!!
Beautiful. Does the Expanded Score include the Trailer Music? I saw it listed and thought that Elliot Goldenthal had composed a piece especially for the trailer? I would love to hear it.
I think both Aliens and Alien 3 are great because they can work separately from their predecesors, they are not common sequels that just go around the same over and over, they are all different and show something new. Now Resurrection, in my opinion is just "Let's make Ripley live again somehow, throw a bunch of Aliens in a spaceship full of people, show lots of blood, create some new disgusting looking Alien and make money out of a great saga that was just alright the way it was finished"
Say what you want about the movie but the soundtrack is the best in the whole series.
It's a shame Fincher didn't get to make the movie after he was more of an established and respected director, that way people would of left him alone to make the movie how he wanted. It could of been a real masterpiece. The assembly cut is still a great film though.

i loved this film. it seemed allot darker than the first alien which couldv'e been bette. i especially loved how the horror was a big element of the film and how the planet played a part in that horror.
This movie has some shit CGI and I don't care how they killed off Hicks and Newt right away, but I'll be damned if it's not one of the most dreadfully depressing, dark movies I've seen. Not so much in the story, but in the music, lighting, and set design.
Screw the critics, this is THE best Alien in the series, the sheer atmosphere is unlike any other film and the music score if the greatest of them all.
I don't like to judge movies by comparing them to their predecesors, i could care less if it doesn't give justice to the first 2 story wise but if you look at it as a stand-alone movie it blows the other out of the sky.
It only got bad scores because of the crybabies when Ripley died.
@Eravenus Agree whole heartedly. One of my favorite parts in the film is Dillon's inspiring speech to the rest of the cons in the boiler room right before the group decides to sacrifice their lives to kill the alien and keep it out of the company's hands.
All in all this film is far more emotional and compelling with its dark psychological undertones and its colorful insane characters. It is my fav. Alien film as well. I have to really argue to defend this film as so many alien fans hate it. Sad

If they just got rid of Alien Resurrection and left the Alien and Predator series alone (Meaning AvP was nonsense) then I'd be the happiest person ever. Alien Resurrection and the AvPs were really stuffed up. I hope there's no Alien 5 or any more, because they're pushing it too far now. Alien 3 should've been the end of the whole series.
I dont like how a bit was cut from the murphy 'accident' bit. It was a little snippet of obo (cant spell) or a deep wind instrument when Murphy steps on the shedded skin. Thanks for posting though, this and the 2nd montage are terrific.
Alien Resurrection was okay but it didn't feel like an alien movie. It felt like a random space action movie, which isn't very memorable at all. They should make Alien 5 with the earth being under attack by aliens and it should have the whole army trying to fight them off. Sigourney Weaver should be in it too before she gets too old.
They're actually not too far from beginning the pre-production of the first of the A L I E N prequels. Yup, there will be TWO new A L I E N movies. And if this wasn't exciting enough, Ridley Scott is directing at least the first one and most likely the second, in addition to H. R. Giger coming back to (re)design the creature/s and sets.

Exchanging tension and suspense with gore and fancy fight scenes in AvP?!? WTF?
I love Ridley Scott more than anybody, but I like Alien 3 better than Alien for one simple reason. Where did that harpoon come from? Come on, man. That thing wasn't there a minute ago. Chuck Jones paused the action and penciled it in for you.

Also, for anyone who wasn't already seen it, you MUST watch the making of Alien 3 (actually you need to see the making of ALL the alien films) and see just what kind of hell David Fincher went through to make this film. He didn't have a script half the time! Gives you a new respect for it!

Alien 3 I think is better than Aliens, that has juste an ordenary Hoolywood action script. Aliens is good because of the aesthetics. But in Alien 3, the plot is very good, very unusual (originally, the scenario meant it to take place in a planet monastery, not a prison). And the resurection movie is good too, with a distinctive look. The Avp films sucks (even if the idea was great) , thought. I hope the next alien will be true to the spirit.
Alien 3 is so much better than Alien Resurrection. Of all the Alien movies I like 3 because it makes me think. Alien makes me feel isolated and scared. Aliens makes me want to "Kill'em all!". Alien Res makes me feel like I'm watching something not worth my time; very similarly to that of the two AvP movies.
What I liked about this movie is that they really put effort into making the Alien more animal like, hens using a dog as a host for the creature. Also what really stands out in this movie is the music.
I hope that if they tend to produce a new Alien movie that they will keep the first 3 movies in consideration and not create something like Aliens vs Predator, I mean c'mon...
Cyproduction: I agree. On the quadrilogy special edition there is a great interview with Elliot Goldenthal, who describes the creative process he used to score this film. I think his comments were thoughtful and interesting. And I think the music in Alien and Alien3 is especially important to each film.

Yes your right Alien 3 was a damn good movie all the action of Aliens is over shadowing but Alien 3 has a better story than any movie out of the series.
I find this movie very good! Its athmosphere is incredible! 1 and 2 still remain my favorite, but this one follows pretty close! I think the main reason for people to not like it is because Hicks and Newt die at the beginning of the film, dont like that either!. And I personaly dont like the dog chestbursting (Im a big wolf/dog lover!) and so prefere the version with the dead ox. Otherwise this movie is amazing! A real tence and endtimish nightmare of a mastepiece!
This movie is so underrated. Yeah, it might not be a masterpiece like its predecessors but it was still a wonderful work of Gothic Scifi-horror. And, most importantly, it feels like an A L I E N movie, which is more then I can say for Resurrection or the god awful AVP films. *spits on floor*
I agree. Alien and Predator is like 2 different series and they mixed them together and made them AVP. It's like putting Barney and Chuck Norris together which makes it...CVB (Chuck VS Barney). @hitchman84 Agreed.I also would say that I think 3 had the best creature design(no doubt because Giger provided some input again)along with the original, of the series.Also, I think the physical creature effects (i.e. the head and suit) are some of the best of the series. Just look at that face! Particularly in the scene where it sprays Golic's face with the other prisoner's blood. This was the second and last truly Giger-esque Alien we saw in the series, and what came after does not measure up.
goldenthall nailed this one. Probably my favorite movie score ever. it really portrays the movies bleak and depressing atmosphere. best score in the alien series for sure!
People tell me they don't like Alien3 b/c Newt and Hicks die. I'm like "fuck it's an Alien movie things aren't supposed to be sunshine and flowers!" This movie had more of a 'real-life situations' feeling that Aliens did. Aliens, to me, had more of a save-the-day with a perfect ending. This movie gives way more insight to Ripley's character. The music is wonderful too.

the funny thing about Fincher is that there were supposed to be cocoons in this movie, like in the deleted scene in Alien. Rumor has it that Fincher was so fed up with the filming that he occasionaly hid in the cocoon props to rest from the bickering he was constantly subjected to lol

Yes your right Alien 3 was a damn good movie all the action of Aliens is over shadowing but Alien 3 has a better story than any movie out of the series.

I find this movie very good! Its athmosphere is incredible! 1 and 2 still remain my favorite, but this one follows pretty close! I think the main reason for people to not like it is because Hicks and Newt die at the beginning of the film, dont like that either!. And I personaly dont like the dog chestbursting (Im a big wolf/dog lover!) and so prefere the version with the dead ox. Otherwise this movie is amazing! A real tence and endtimish nightmare of a mastepiece!

This movie is so underrated. Yeah, it might not be a masterpiece like its predecessors but it was still a wonderful work of Gothic Scifi-horror. And, most importantly, it feels like an A L I E N movie, which is more then I can say for Resurrection or the god awful AVP films. *spits on floor*

I agree. Alien and Predator is like 2 different series and they mixed them together and made them AVP. It's like putting Barney and Chuck Norris together which makes it...CVB (Chuck VS Barney). Lol, some people I know like AVP better than Alien and I'm just like "no. no. just no. that's not right" lol.

@hitchman84 Agreed.I also would say that I think 3 had the best creature design(no doubt because Giger provided some input again)along with the original, of the series.Also, I think the physical creature effects (i.e. the head and suit) are some of the best of the series. Just look at that face! Particularly in the scene where it sprays Golic's face with the other prisoner's blood. This was the second and last truly Giger-esque Alien we saw in the series, and what came after does not measure up.

People tell me they don't like Alien3 b/c Newt and Hicks die. I'm like "fuck it's an Alien movie things aren't supposed to be sunshine and flowers!" This movie had more of a 'real-life situations' feeling that Aliens did. Aliens, to me, had more of a save-the-day with a perfect ending. This movie gives way more insight to Ripley's character. The music is wonderful too.

the funny thing about Fincher is that there were supposed to be cocoons in this movie, like in the deleted scene in Alien. Rumor has it that Fincher was so fed up with the filming that he occasionaly hid in the cocoon props to rest from the bickering he was constantly subjected to lol
