  • That was beautiful. Had to listen to it again. One of my old favorites of the Carters.

  • You have a great "old country style " voice . A beautiful tribute to your loved one .

  • @hotbarbie3 This is as real as country gets. Get your shit straight.

  • @hittman837 Thanks for your support man, means alot

  • Nice cover man! Loved the tune of it and the song is one of my favorite gospel songs. Thanks for posting it! :)

  • if people could sing then they wouldnt have to use the Carter Family name..

  • Wow and it is so unbelievable how much you look like my ex, thats why i clicked on ya to begin with....is your name rusty lol

  • Your voice is fabulous!!! i love it. Id like to give some constructive criticism, i hope that's ok. Stop being so proper and just let it flow..... Your pronouncing I'll....isle. Just let it flow out of ya darling. I loved how you did it, but when you say *I'll* it sounds as if your trying to say it verses feeling it. I don't mean this negatively at all, im just giving my opinion.God bless ya and keep it up, ur talented.

  • You sing good. Keep practicing the guitar.

  • AWESOME ! Have you tried out for America's Got Talent ? You should !!

  • @RevrnDale the show wouldnt even let him in the back door....

  • @Tammyleeloveshim You'll do great if you just keep practicing.

  • This is awesome.

  • Lossen up a bit, feel the song, let it come out, not just memorize the words.

You have a good start, keep it going

  • great job, PRAISE GOD

  • Don't be so deliberate. I'd love to tell you to have a beer, or smoke a joint, but I'm afraid that you're mennonite... Not that there's anything wrong with that. All I'm saying is that it does't help you out that much, either way. You have good rhthym on the guitar. Let someone else sing for a while, until you master that rhythym.

  • the best way to download this mp3 from youtube is to google mp3iiffy.

  • Let the Carters do thier thing.Sorry about your loss.

  • You did a fantastic job. You have a good strong voice. You hit all the notes with no strain at all that I could detect.

  • I like it, but this song needs the close harmony!

  • well done Gav

  • Wow you really sound like a young Hank Snow. I'd love to hear your rendition of It Dont Hurt Anymore or movin On. I'm sure you'd nail em. Thanks for a terrific vid. Really heartfelt

  • Buddy, I think your rendition is great. You hit those notes just where they are supposed to be hit. I can hear old Hank Williams, but also Hank Snow. I look forward to watching all your videos. Thanks for helping us keep the music alive. -William

  • Not bad at all; reminds me of an early Hank Williams, with some deadpan Johhny Cash vocals thrown in.

  • I love how you do this song. I tried singing along with your video, and it feels wonderful. Thank you!

  • dude he's a lefty no way

  • Hey Man Beautiful! Thanks!!! As far as your pronuciation, seems just fine, and in a style of yer own, thanks again!

  • ....my thoughts and prayers are with you and I am sorry for your loss. I love your cover....it is really wonderful.

I was on my last mile with my sweet yorkie, wolfgang ( 15 year old) and this song came on the song on the way to the vet....it was so really like a gift--It will now forever be my favorite and I will request it for my passing....

blessing to you....and much success with your music..

  • This is lovely. In the context of losing someone you love, the sad sound in your voice is appropiate. When my father died tragically in early 1995, the song that finally made me able to cry was "God Sleeps in a Caboose" by Stan Ridgway, It sort of made me imagine Dad going away in a train car like Abe Lincoln and that comfort helped much at my darkest. Keep up your talent, and I'm truly so sorry for your loss.

  • this is nice keep it up :)

  • good job with keeping in sync, its really hard to play with a continous tempo while trying to keep your voice in tune with the song.

as for over pronunciating the lyrics, i dont think its that big of a concern, its what distinguishes you from other people and i think now a days people sound too much like each other.

  • Relax when you sing your over pronunciating your words. You have a nice voice and good timing. Be natural and be you. Otherwise your great!

  • oh, that is so beautyful !!!!! I heared the song first time now by the movie "brother where art thou" - and find it you presentating - thank you you made it very good !!

    Greetings from Germany :-)

  • Loved It!!!!=) That was AEWSOME! God Bless You!!!=)

  • Very good!

  • Your voice is perfect for this song. In my mind, I hear ladies with banjos singing "I'll Fly Away", but now I hear your voice and a guitar. Thanks for this treat.

  • well said....

it is indeed a treat and a blessing....

  • Great tribute man , sorry about your loss.

  • Great job man, you remind me of Hank Snow a little

  • Very well done.

  • very awesome version

  • loss of someone close is always tragic but as others have sai u will be reunited, u dod a great version of the song only thing is your voice could have had more of a drawl it was very proper sounding and that is a bluegrass sounding song

  • Loved Loved Loved it!!! Beautiful song!

  • Wow, you have a fantastic voice. I'm so sorry that you lost your friend. But in Jesus Christ we do have the hope of joyful reunion. I hope you have peace and joy, and many happy memories of your friend.

  • I lost a friend of mine who loved this song in 2005. I still miss him, a great deal.

This song, and "I saw the Light" was written by Albert E. Brumley, who was from Missouri.

My Uncle and Aunt, both new him personally, and I used to live probably within 6 miles of him.

So I feel a heavy connection, since they attended Ebenezer Baptist church in Monett, MO

I been there several times myself.

I long to move back tro my roots and pick this music.

  • "I saw the light" was written by Hank Williams.

  • Wiki:

"I'll Fly Away," written by Albert E. Brumley in 1929 [1], is a hymn most associated with American Baptists[2] and the Church of Christ. It is an optimistic song about an earthly death that leads to everlasting life in glory with Christ.

"I'll Fly Away" has been called the most recorded gospel music song [3], beginning with a recording by James and Martha Carson, the "Barn Dance Sweethearts" of WSB Atlanta, in 1946, followed two years later by the Chuck Wagon Gang in 1948.

  • very nice! couldn't help but sing along with you!

  • Well, I guaranty you that you can't see the light unless you saw the dark first. LOL

  • sorry for your loss, ..take care...Rob

  • There's an American movie called "O' Brother, Where Art Thou?" that came out a few years ago that features this song (among other great classics like "Man of Constant Sorrow"). I've loved it ever since. I came close to covering it myself here on YT. But you've given it a respectful and heart-felt interpretation that keeps this among the most beloved spiritual songs ever written. 5*

  • hey buddy, I'm sorry bout your friend..:( this is a beautiful song, you did an amazing job!!! 5****!!!!

  • Beautiful singing, 5 stars for you.

Sorry to hear about your lost, my prayers will be with you.

  • Fantastic Gav, this one isn't dark at all. Such a great gospel classic. Wonderful job, but I like the dark stuff too.

  • We are singing along with you to this one Gav!

    Awesome performance man.

    Well done.
