  • Hey I know how you feel man. My favorite video store, Majestic Video in St. Albans, closed down in the mid 90's and it was a terrible feeling. Those days are gone, and people who never walked into a real VHS/Betamax store really don't know what they missed out on. But man, those of us that know the feeling of being in those stores are privileged.

  • we have to remember the great VHS and Beta and the experience of going to our favourite video stores and picking out a stack of weekly's and a few new releases each few days or week

  • the world it is a changing. Definately sad to see them gone but I stopped renting eight years ago. people today want instant convenience thus downloading, netflix, redbox etc

this makes me more determined than ever before to keep my tapes and laserdiscs in the shed and show the generations to come what we had back in those days when we were young.

I mean VHS and beta and to some extent, V2000 were the dawn of a new era, the video revolution.

next to go will be cinemas in 10 to 25years

  • That's a shame. Video stores are definitely a dying breed, although I really don't care anymore because none my way carry VHS, which is where my interest lays.

  • @SempiternalDamnation I think it had some promotional material and it had a piece of the documentary Behind the Planet of the Apes.

  • @SempiternalDamnation I know, I understand that. But the copy of the 98 release had more sentimental value than anything, even though it wasn't the copy I originally bought.

  • Ive got a lot of good memories of the video shop near my place when I was a tacker. Gees I rented some good shows and movies back then.

  • i miss the old beta and vhs tapew rental store even dvds there are not alot rental of them it is a said state we live in awesome video sweet thanks cheers :)

  • it sucks . when my nearest video stores closed i was gutted too.

as for downloading movies. no thanks i wanna pick up and see what i am buying or renting. i will give up watching movies if they force me to rent over a line. i will take up boozing.

  • dont give up! keep looking for him!!!

    VHS for life!

  • dude that sux ass.. i hate it when my favorite places close down

  • Sad to hear! Always letting you down an entire day, if not a whole week, if its that close for you.

  • It's always sad when the places of your childhood are gone. Mine are always torn down and paved over as yet another parking lot.

  • That's a sad discovery.

  • @lastalot Exactly I cant seem to let go of what was left of our childhood, everytime i drove passed the store I would have a smile on my face as it reminded me of the past. Everything is shutting down left right and centre, and yeh we have way too many fucking cafes and boring clothing stores

  • It's the death of the video store my friend! That's one legacy of downloading films. 1986 is a long stretch.

My local has been there since 1984. It's a Family Videoland franchise, but I think their days are numbered too. I'm sorry to see yours go. These stores have such great memories attached to them.

When stores close their stock usually goes into a central warehouse, and some stuff is redistributed to other stores. I doubt their VHS tapes would though.

  • @SempiternalDamnation That's too bad. I sold a 1998 VHS copy of Planet of the Apes to a former friend because I upgraded to the DVD, years later I regretted it so much I bought a copy off eBay.

  • @SempiternalDamnation I like to look at it this way, I have 172 VHS tapes. Many of which I have no reason to keep, but I know that I'll never throw a single one of them out. So that's 172 VHS tapes that won't end up in a bin behind an old shop.

  • @SempiternalDamnation Thanks, I thought I was beginning to ramble on like Charlie Sheen so that's why I deleted it lol.

  • was that the civics video at west penno?

  • Comment removed

  • @SempiternalDamnation I know, but nothing ever last forever. But as long as there are people like us VHS will live on for generations to come.

  • That's a real shame. Most of the big chains near me are gone (Blockbuster) or moved to vastly smaller premises (Vide Ezy's). Hopefully you get in contact with him and can browse some tapes before they hit the dumpster. We are all to blame though, I can't remember the last time I rented something.. I just goto JB and buy it.

  • @ExplosiveAction Yeh same theres one more rental place around me but I dont think its gonna survive. I'm looking into where all those tapes went, cause there was a heap. Well same here I just buy I never rent so thats why in a way.

  • That really is a bummer. I would have a tangible form of media over a download any day. It is a shame that people who insist on downloading are willfully putting people out of work.

I have lost like 4 rental places around me. One place here is open and is a fixture here. They still check out vhs which is cool.

He might have sold the remaining goods to another store in the general area. I'm not sure, but just an idea.

  • @Dayofthedead1976 Yeh it is, i HATE digital movies I don't believe in it. Theres only one more video store left in my area and im not sure how long its gonna last, but yeh i'll look into where the stock went.

  • hopefully you get incontact with the owner and find out what happened to all his tapes. im suprised he didnt sell them b4 he closed, there were heaps?

  • @trenq13 yeh I know I am going to try and get onto it by getting onto their head office

  • If there are any warehouses in your area, it's most likely they might have gone there, that's what happened when one of the stores in my area closed so it would be worth finding out.

Apart from that, a sad shame man

  • @accountwithoutrules yeh I want to look into that cause there are so many dvds and vhs's that just vanished. cheers

  • If it wasn't for flea markets, goodwills and pawn shops, there would be no vhs around and even those places are getting scarce with tapes. I don't like this all digital times stuff. I still buy vinyl!!

  • @MADPUPPETDETH Yeh exactly the flea markers is all I really have left, the stuff you can find at the markets is so cool and nostalgic. I hate digital crap, I need a possesion. thanks for the comment lori

  • That sucks man. I love video stores.

  • @ANDREWBALLINA I know its a sad and strange loss in away. cheers mate

  • I'm sad to say it's the beginning of the end to video stores.

  • @DrHasslein yeh true mate
