  • These discoveries are like any old cheap 4x4 without their diff locks...

  • compra un toyota

  • Land Rover make the ultimate 4x4.. But I have a Vitara which is double the fun :P lol

  • get some winter tyres mate

  • Tires must be bald or a lot of pure ice under the snow.

  • This is all due to tyres. I don't think a diff lock would have helped, but better tyres would certainly have made a difference. You can retrofit the diff lock to the '03, apparently...

  • amis kle dedas sheveci sad buqsaobs, manqana kleta klea da mdzgoli kide uaresi kle magis dedas sheveci, pu rogor ver vitan eset ragaceebs scorze buqsaobas da ase shemdeg!!!!

  • must have shit tires.

  • is it just me or does anyone else think thos are more like 80% road 20 % off road tires?

  • Give it some !!

  • and land rover could at least give us the choice to have a manual gearbox on the disco 4 instead of trying to be eco and fitting an 8 speed on it

  • Snow tyres would have helped too

  • Haha bunch of know-it-alls in here - I've got a Disco II and I've had her over 2' snowplow banks with no issues at all - you need to give the traction control enough time to brake the slipping wheels and she'll rocket over just about anything. And for the record, my 1999 Disco II DOES have a center locking diff, just no cable actuator installed. It's a simple install, but it is equipped.

  • @EstorilEm Depend on what year... Only from 99 till 2001 come with cdl and not cable, 2002 and 2003 no cdl at all. Then in 2004 land rover introduce the cdl and new mechanism to engage the 4x4 eazy.....

  • all the electronics are designed to work while you keep a constant throttle !not keep letting off, even with crap tyres tc should of got that outa there if they had just kept the throttle on,not nailing it but a constant throttle and time.....even a lard rover would of got out of there with that little tiny engine;)...another reason not to buy british!

  • Really that snow was extremely deep. My grandad owns the 2007 VW Touareg 2.5 TDi. It has diff locks, and I sure when I checked the manual a couple of months ago that it said not to use the diff locks in winter conditions, I'm sorry but thats probably the only time anyone owning that car would use them. I don't think he'd want to take £42,000 worth of car offroading. I am going to check the manual to see if I had read it right, as we are predicted snowfall by the the beginning of November.

  • @jonny2k100 when you use dif lock you will only put it in when you need it, ie stuck in the snow. dont drive with it in normaly for long discance as it can brake thngs in the running gear of your car. and also with it in it will make it harder to stear the car. i think that is what it means by winter conditios

  • @SuperBigmat. Yeh thanks, we read the manual pretty carefully and we did pick op on that. Thanks :)

  • Не пиздите,есть блока на рестайлинге

  • Tyres????

  • Worst Land rover driver I've ever seen. They have obviously never heard of diff locks

  • Land Rover Rule!!! The only thing I see here is lack of trote and maybe a CDL will help in this case a litle.... But other than that is a kool video!!!

  • Summer tires and owner can't drive. Hell my cousin has put his little Sunfire through much worse then that. Any 4X4 shouldn't have any trouble in such spots.

Winter tires, they work. People think All Seasons are just as good, but in truth, a pair of snow tires always come out on top.

  • @ oedixey, thank you, finally someone with knowledge.

I’ve read countless time here on YouTube where someone would write: "lock the centre diff", "lock the centre diff, stupid". When its well known that Land Rover neutered the Discovery Series 2’s centre diff lock for 1998-2003 MY, finially bringing it back for 2004 MY. Land Rover will even tell you the majority of Discovery Series 2 DON'T have diff locks; front, centre, or rear. They just have 4-wheel electronic traction control.

  • @TorqueTransfer , Its only the linkage they did't put in apparently, everything else is there and ready to go. This means its actually very easy to enable it on a 98-03 spec Discovery. I have a 04 Spec, so it came with diff lock and traction control and standard :)

  • @TorqueTransfer Pre 2002 they can be installed though. Well worth it too

  • @RPsketcher Is it just the pre 02 model ones that can be installed in?

  • What a mupet!! CDL and you'd be out! You can clearly tell he dosen't have them on as front and back wheels a going a diff speeds!

  • Ill come and show you how to drive in snow, i have a series 3, i live in worksop, landys are the best and people that cannot drive them make them look bad. I didnt get stuck anywhere and i towed 2 lorrys out :)

  • "goes to show" not gies sorry lol.

  • Sorry "goes" not guis. Lol

  • He did not keep the gas on long enough for the TC to kick in. It bloody annoys me when folk buy these very capable vehicles, and make themselves look stupid. When all could have been saved if they read the manual beforehand. This is a disgrace to the discovery through no fault of it's own. Check out the other vids on YouTube the discovery 2 td5, and see what they really can do. One of them is even towing a 38 ton articulated lorry through snow, so it just gies to show.

  • yes very embarrising..........if he had a CDL it was not locked, if he didnt then he kept "backing" off just where he need to keep the power on!

  • How embarrasing! I have a Freelander 2 which runs on goodyear wrangler all weather tyres and got through worse snow than this! The problem with discos as the guy on the land rover experience day said is the weight, bloody heavy vehicle which may have hindered progress here. One advantage of the Freelander 2 is the terrain response dial which when put in snow mode, never put a foot wrong.

  • No diff lock in series 2 discovery.

Driver never gave the traction control time to work and should have increased the revs for the t/c to operate properly.

Land rover did bring the diff lock back as a option right at the end of the series 2 discoverys life.

Why they never fitted it as standard is stupid.

  • @oedixey cos the viscus would do the same job with out needing that much more time to work

  • @oedixey Your right, all that was needed was a few more revs and the tration control would have taken over no problem. I prefer diff lock however if you know how to drive a Land Rover then this would not have happend.

  • @oedixey we own a 2002 disco 2 with centre diff lock fitted aftermarket; while I understand how front and rear diff locks work can anyone explain to me how a centre diff lock works?? am i wrong in assuming it locks (at least one of each of) the front and rear wheels together? cant seem to find a straight answer on google or anything. cheers

  • @triumphdollysprint

The centre diff lock locks the front and rear axles together, without this as soon as 1 wheel lost traction all the power would go straight to this wheel

When you lock the centre diff lock if one of the wheels on the front axle lost traction you would still have drive to the rear axle and this also work the other way around

If you had one front wheel spinning and one rear wheel spinning even with the centre diff locked in you would be stuck. Hope this answers your question

  • @oedixey just to add to your comment normaly your 4x4 would send 60% of drive to frount wheels and 40% to the back. ore something like that. and with centre diff lock in it will sent 50% to both axels.

    then you get diff lockers.

this is what people get confused over. cost quite a lot to get. these go in your diff in the axels.. when used both wheels on the axel will spin at the same time at the same speed.

so when you have centre diff lock in and diff lockers on all 4 wheels spin together

  • @SuperBigmat Wrong... OMG. 4x4 lock the transfer case 50% front and 50% to the back wheels.... Now If your are talking about AWD, then you right..... But theres a difference between 4x4 and AWD..

  • @oedixey so you mean he should have just stepped on it?

  • @oedixey BMW Influence apparently customers dont buy 4x4 to go off road or to drive in bad weather, they drive them to take the kids to school and shop in tesco! I drive a discovery 1 and got stopped by a 4x4 qasqui who told me I wouldnt get up that snow bank as he had just failed to! I got up there without an issue I just can not see why any one would buy anything other than landy!

  • Needs to read how to use the toys on board

  • Trouble is to many people who buy these haven't got a clue about tyre choice, central diff lock, low ratio etc. The machines fantastic, but the bod behind the wheel needs educating.

  • @spgough1 Agreed, diff lock should have being engaged before this point and all Disco 2's had traction Control fitted, so once the wheels start spinning, you need to give it a slight increase in power to get the system working effectivley

  • Summer tires? This should be trivial for any 4x4...

  • It'sALandRoverDiscovery:P

  • It's a Land Rover (not that I'm being pedantic). Nice vid tho.
