  • I have some amazing urethane railcar wheels for sale. get in touch with me if you want 'em.

  • What will happen if a train came? Those tracks are shiny and it meanns it is active

  • i wanna build one it looks easy

  • its a low rider, lol

  • Are the tracks abandon?

  • check out my video where i ACTUALLY bike ontop of train tracks with a regualr bicycle . the balance is difficult . the video is called "Bike on Train tracks - HOW FAR CAN YOU RIDE THE RAILS??"

  • Look Ma No Hands!!

  • where can you get wheels for this? Im building one...

  • with good bearing and with aerodynamic bodywork it can likely go very fast. just a tad dangerous if there are trains..

  • grate till a train comes and runs you down

  • Hey that is so cool! I gotta have me one of these!!!!! It would be worth jail time just to say you did it! LOL first of all they gotta catch you!

  • @simonspics1

Thats right. Catch me if you can coppers : )

  • Really nice! I was thinking on doing one myself to collect loose metal parts by the railroad for recycling.

  • @vitorfray I think that is called theft. The railroad does come around every so often to collect THERE scrap to sell you know.

  • @Ham549 Not really, the railroad is really old and there are a lot of good stuff for recycling, there are actually some some wagoons that just lie there to rust

  • Tracks look pretty Active.....whats that?...sounds like a TRAIN!!!!

  • some ppl have to much time to waste

  • i know. was fun though. : )

  • OMG - U used thin ex V-pulley's for wheels? And .. have about 1/4 " lee way for Gauge intolerances..? Maybe next time .. consider adding some MEAT to the width of those pulley's .. by bolting on .. some HARDWOOD (lathed) DISCS.. as thats the simplest & cheapest method of "adding" a little safety - to the GRIP / tread width .. of those silly EX_V_Pulley wheels

  • Yeah, How fun is this. First invention attempt. What a blast this day was. Was Ma's B Day

  • Your "friend" runs the railroad and shut the trains down?

Yeah, so he risked his job so his buddy could test a non-working pos on a mainline? A railroad is a business, and is not going to stop business for some bs like this?

Dude, your full of sh*t, I hope your azz gets arrested before you get killed.

  • Your "friend" runs the railroad and shut the trains down?

Yeah, so he risked his job so his buddy could test a non-working pos on a mainline? A railroad is a business, and is not going to stop business for some bs like this?

Dude, your full of sh*t, I hope your azz gets arresrted before you get killed.

  • watch for wide gage ha ha

  • I live in Mpls Mn and know of tracks in the area that trains don't use anymore, Why run on an active line ?

  • Your flange widths are too narrow! The 56.5" guage frequently varies. You need at a tread of 3". Yours are half the width which why you derailed. I also see you have no brakes.

  • Only retards would ride them on main lines-people usually use them on abandoned ones.

  • find an abandoned line and then you can keep your cart there all year round

  • put a ARR type E coupler on the front and join it to a train!!

  • train is coming......... and hit the assholes and your toy.

  • It's All Safe. A friend of mine runs the railroad in mpls and shut the trains down for me to test this contraption. Works great and all is well. Have a nice day

  • @kyleholdridge -Wouldn't it be easier to ride a train?

  • @kyleholdridge - You can't be serious. Your "friend" has the power to hold up freight commerce in Minneapolis for some guy's hobby? Does the Director at Minnesota DOT Freight, Rail, & Waterways know about this?

Robertmacdowell is right this is NOT safe. Imagine the Yardmaster sees someone put a hold tag on your rail line and sees no logical reason for it. Just says "Because I said so..." How soon do you think that hold would be rescinded and you have a the 5 :40 up your a**?

  • Ask your friend to locate an abandoned spur or some 80 lb per yard ancient right-of-way that nobody uses anymore (full of weeds, no gravel ballast, dry rotted non-anchored ties, rusty rail tops, and non welded joints). Shouldn't be that hard if he has that much pull. Tell him to check around the Northern Pacific Bridge area.

  • @kyleholdridge .....Sure you do!! :) Your mom was a little worried, i guess you must have forgotten to tell her about your buddy in mpls. Dont bullshit us Kyle!! haha

  • @kyleholdridge yer sure... ur friend just stopped industry for you to ride around in a little buggy thing

  • @kyleholdridge No one would be so stupid as to delay or shut down a train for you to test your contraption.

    Why did it derail?

Can you clear switches and grade crossings?

Would be a blast if it had gears to see how fast you could go, especially if you can push off your back.

  • I Know you just used all your brain power building the thing but come on think moms got the right idea how bad do you think she is going to feel at your funeral? change that nifty bike to run on the ground and be smart about where you ride it it is low to the ground and is very hard for cars to see maybe a bike path would be the best place for you to try this the next time. hope you do the safe thing the next time.

  • Not cool on an active line dudes!

  • pretty likely a train will come and kill your ass... find a new hobby if you're still alive

just remember. When it's a tie- YOU LOSE.

  • What you guys have done is highly illegal. You cannot trespass on a railroad companies property. Plus it is very ignorant for you to be on a high speed freight line that is in use alot.

  • @boattrainman Since I pay tax on the railroad easement thru my farm,Its hard to feel guilty borrowing tracks that actually belong to me! LOL

  • The wheel is too thin so easy to be derail.

  • Highly illegal!!!!!! That had better be a de-comd track. The railroad does not play, and they will break it off in your ass so hard your eyes will change color. Just warning ya....Looked fun though! : ) (robertmacdowell is correct!

  • i mean thats cool in all but usually you have to notify the railroad and get permission so you dont get hit by a train, those tracks look like there in service for high speed freights or something.

  • @shininghappyperson7 With all the law suit happy lawyers out there, good luck on getting permission. If you have an accident, the person giving you permission will state they never gave you permission in order to save their job. I used to belong to Narcao. The Railroads required $20,000,000 of liability coverage which we got through United Short Line Rail Service. Then we were escorted by the Railroad. Look up Narcoa on Youtube.

  • imovie intro

  • Very cool. Some tracks are inactive and this could put them to use. These rails could also be used on a safety path.

  • Yea its kind of beond stupid to do that on a busy railway.

  • lol speed over safety- now what would the Nickel Plate say about that? :) VERY cool railcar BTW.

  • This would be fun on an abandoned line, but stupid to the point of suicidal on a busy mainline. A fully loaded freight train would knock you off the track like an autumn leaf. The metal drive wheels are a bad idea too. Unsure about US signalling systems, but in Australia, they are set off by the axle of the wheels completing a circuit formed by the rails. You could set one off with a piece of fencing wire

  • @Mechknight73 Signaling systems work the same in the U.S.

  • @Mechknight73 Railcars & rail bikes are too light to make a good connection on railroad tracks. The circuit would be intermittent at best & besides if you set off the block signals and the dispatcher see your moment on the CTC board and theirs no moment scheduled, the local police will be there to welcome you.

  • @Mechknight73 Yes it easy to set off the signals. Ive seen trees and large limbs set off crossing signals because they are wet and across the tracks after a severe thunderstorm..

  • suddenly people are concerned with a random persons safety? all of the comments are funny, people bitching because it looks like someone is having a better time. who gives a shit, let em take THEIR risks

  • @zulubakery It's called respecting people's property, you dont go to a airport and ride your bike down the run way do you? No, because it disrupts traffic. Same on a active railway line, the rail bike may activate a circuit that rail traffic control will think is a train in the block. There are other options, such as finding a abandoned railroad track, just ask a railroad fan they will tell you where you can go. Get permission to be there, and respect other peoples property.

  • @geeps08 fair enough, but i dont do that at the airport because there are fences that are difficult to cross not to mention security personnel. i think the issue has more to do with ego, pride and some remnant of an outdated mindset of the railroad being a service in constant need of security and defense when train robbers and indians were running amok. besides its not like there is mutual respect anyway, its a business. profit, or what threatens it is the only reason were having this argument

  • @zulubakery OK, fair enough, but what about the poor guy or girl whose job it is to control the train and the trauma it would cause them and their families knowing they killed people when their train ran them over?

  • well hopefully you guys get hit by a train eventully, because its the only way you'll learn not to be idiots and trespass on an active railroad line. find some property that you have a right to be on and stay of the mainlines. douche bags

  • I wouldnt ever do that on a mainline. You should have done it on a side track.

  • What do you notice about that railroad track?

#1 no weeds and high ballast.

#2 Top of the rail is polished to a shine.

#3 no rail joints, continuous welded rail.

#4 good wood on the ties and rail anchors on every tie.

ACTIVE MAINLINE. Train speeds 40-79 mph.

Penalty for getting caught on it: Jail. If not death.

I'm not saying it's ok to ride little-used lines. Saying riding that one isn't even dumb.

  • Death penalty for going on railroad lines? LOL! I don't believe that to be quite true. Unless you mean death as a natural consequence.

  • @Patrickisreallygreat yeah that's what I mean. Even funner is lying there in racking pain for 8 hours while your buddy limps back to civilization to get you a medevac... assuming you HAVE a buddy and he can limp. That did happen with a flying shingle in the Adirondacks in the 80s. That sort of thing is why they formed NARCOA so we could get organized and get legit. Flying shingles (flimsy homebrew contraptions) are disallowed because they're unsafe. Sorry.

  • @robertmacdowell i saw your comment and is it true that i could go to jail if i make one to use on a track? please reply, thanks

  • Please watch:

THE WORLD'S SIMPLEST TRANSMISSION for BICYCLE

  • @fordlukebo I'm not him but yes it is. Even if your walking on the tracks it is considered trespassing.

  • @fordlukebo TRUE! Trespassing on Railroad Property is a Federal Crime. If you are caught you will be arrested, your bike confiscated and cut up! The Railroad is a VERY DANGERIOUS PLACE! Trains can come at any time. Railroads are controlled by the Federal Railroad Administration which is the railroad version if the FAA. You try that on CSX or BNSF and see what happens to you!

  • i have a question. it that legal to ride the tracks? guz if so screw going to the road and biking in ill make one of thise and drive on the tracks!

  • @AtvProjects ?????

  • would you be aloud to ride on open tracks?

  • @AtvProjects Oh, it was kinda hard understanding that. Anyhow, no, certainly not. That is considered tresspassing to the railroad, and obviously thats no abandoned line. So no, I think thats actually considered a federal offense, may be wrong.

  • NOO WAYY, you are trespassing and can be arrested, bike impounded.

1 the bike is not FRA/ AAR or Railroad approved

2 You do not have a clearance from Rail Traffic Control.

    3 you can get killed

    4 liability

    etc etc.

  • right but you can hear a train coming long before it gets there.

  • @NotCops no... you can't. I know you're thinking "how can you not hear THAT"... but fact is, trains can be dead quiet from head-on. And you're on a machine that's making a lot of noise. I've ridden speeders out on the line, I know of what I speak.

  • @NotCops Thats not true. Trains run on welded rails and out in the country crossings are far & few between plus frequently the locomotive is in low throttle positions or is idling down hill. If the wind is blowing towards you, you will not hear the train

  • Gonna lmfao if a train hits ur ass

  • Kyle (I presume)- Nice job on the cart. Always wanted to build a rail cart. The only thing that held me up was a source for the wheels. Can I ask how you came up with yours? I know of an infrequently used track that goes by some interesting places (see my Beach City Cave video) that are too far to walk to (I'm getting old!) and too far from access by road. A rail cart would be just the ticket.

  • did you guys make that yourself? as in homemade? looks really awesome

  • If that track isnt abanded, then you ppl are not too smart. What if an Amtrack came speeding through. You'd all be into pieces.

  • suck if a train came

  • Yeah, like loveanianimeme said, "Suck it train lame."

  • @loveanianimeme It would really suck if she came...

  • Its an interesting toy, but looks rather slow,

  • Check the schedule!

  • You would also have problems going over switches and diamonds as the seats sit below the top of the rail head.

  • heres an idea, allow the wheels to be free floatting (so to speak)meanning let them slide freely on the axles the spring load them so they can follow the conture of the tracks while still forcing them against the rails! problem solved then strap a 10hp motor on it a go for a ride.

  • Yeah not solved. They'd need a differential to do that. It is driven....

  • all that would need to be done is spline all 2 axles then attach a sprocket weld on some motor mounts and she done.not a hard engineering problem infact its pretty much basic.A first yr student could figure it out.

  • Judging by how the tracks look, that line is still active. The top of the rails look shiny, which is a clear indicator that a train has gone over it recently.

  • not everyone uses that little thing called common sense. in a way its good because it helps control the population...

  • Smell- Common sense isn't so common anymore. Primarily because we're doing such a fine job of 'idiot proofing' our world that the idiots are now living long enough to breed. Stupidity is hereditary and since sexuality is instinctual, the stupid genes are reproducing at a phenomenal rate. So much for the process of natural selection.

  • warped...but so true!!! haha!

  • Is US standered wider than our UK standard? looks like it. And that looks like fun!, We dont have abondened tracks here, its ether all far to overgrown, or the Beeching axe took the rails up

  • @Marillionmad 4 feet 8 and one half inches = Standard Guage or 56.5 inches between the rails/

  • This design is a good launching point. It's similar to commercially available "velocipedes." It just has two basic flaws that can be addressed quite easily.

  • 1: The wheels are too narrow. This is not a problem with good track, but older stick rail with bends and kinks will derail this thing easily. Wider wheels will help.

2: It's only guided in the center. This allows a pivot point that can rotate the cart off the rail. A pair of guide pins (preferable with rollers) located just forward of the front axle will alleviate that issue.

  • lol good with that

  • Jeez, that looks like "Kramer" from Seinfeld! Ah the beautiful simplicity of rails. The energy required to propel any load over distance is so much less than with rubber-tired vehicles. No wonder we waste so much fuel in this country....

  • Seems like a great idea if you have an abandoned track nearby. Especially if it was recently abandoned, like I hope those tracks were.

  • coool but id suggest wider wheels with a notch on the inside so they stay on the track (like ordinary train wheels)

  • wait are u a railfan?

  • sweet thats hard to make but awsomeness with it too

  • your bike is shite, your video is shite

  • And your English is shit.

  • RudolfoShock: And your English is shit

shite, the word is shite. did nazi occupation teach you lowlanders nothing?

  • I agree, i mean look at how low it sits, you cant even go over RR crossings, you would slam the shit out of your ass trying to rocket across. What a waste of time, this goober says it took 2 months to build it, waste of time and materials.

  • his bike is really cool ya loser its just unsafe on USED RAILROAD TRACKS

  • Comment removed

  • Are you and your family (or friends) really that dumb??? Take a good look at the rails and you will see they are SHINY. That means trains go through there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ha ha so true

  • lol, but yeah. Stay off used RR tracks.

  • wait untill you get hit by a train.

then there is no more fun

  • did you guys hear the wolf when they were pushing it with there foot and i would buy it

  • was that a dog in the middle of the railroad?

  • i guess an addition to the bike could be guide wheels... like rollercoasters have... this way it won't slip off the tracks every now and then.

regarding the above posts about the tracks being active... i'm sure there is nothin to be triped.. it seems like a staightaway secluded piece of rail - hope some idiots won't copy the idea, decide to cross towns listening to their ipods and tune out train horns from the distance!!

  • how do you make it and do you have to get permission

  • Question for the videographer. Does this contraption actually conduct enough current to trip the signals?

  • that and its also illegal, you can get a huge fine and possibly Jail time for that its the same as tresspassing on privet propertey exept this property has 10,000+ Ton trains going on it

  • it would be very very very funny if u triggerd the crossing gates!! people will be like " what the hek are we stuck here for, I can crush that with my car." make a vidio like that and post it. It would be AWSOME if you did that. TRY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What if a train comes? Or do they not use those track anymore?

  • Notice how the rail head (top of the rail) is not rusted? That is an indicator that the tracks are used, polished by the train wheels.

  • Yep! That's scarry! I think you should find an abandon line or go to a museum. Not trying to be mean or rude but this could get you killed!

  • Looks like it would be pretty fast once you got going. I guess you could pedal for further as well because of the low rolling friction. Best to keep to disused lines though, unless your contraption will operate track circuit signalling

  • Outstanding bike! Nice work!

  • put a nice gass motor on that!!

  • i always wanted to make something similar to this but with a 5 or 8 HP sideshaft engine to power it. I'm sure it would be quite fast considering such little friction. It would probably be a death trap though too.

  • Good thinking...I was just telling someone a few post down that I live right next to the train tracks and have never even thought about building one of these. I know the approximate times that they go by so I should be fine as long as I stay off during those times. I could cruise right into town. Wonder what kinda fine though if you got caught.

  • heh yah man the fine is probably pretty harsh. wouldn't it be funny though going through crossings on a home made contraption with a air horn of some sort. people would be like "WTF?".

You should try and find some storage track areas that are seldomly used. Would be great to test it on. we've got a good length of storage track here it's about 2.5 miles and it goes through a tunnel too! would be perfect for playing around with something like this. it's used maybe once a mth.

  • to neolightproductions: If you try that which I wouldn't recomend watch out for "ghost trains", unschedualed trains that normally don't run at that time. And the fine is large I'm sure. And if you do get hit and killed imagine how the engineer will feel.

  • oh honey look at the train, crunch! lol good way to kill ur sellf

  • that's an abandoned railroad right?

  • I have a railroad behind my house and if you know the approximate times that they normally go by then your fine. Normally it's like 8:00pm at night and like 5:00am in the morning for me. So they probably just doing it in between times.

  • nice suicide thing

  • the trains coming get out the way lol ahahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • if the railway cops showed up they could arrest you because they have federal arrest powers

  • they only have the arrest power of a state trooper

  • r they those guys that ride the vans on the rail road tracks and they have those cool tires

me and my freind threw and rock right in the window it was open

    it was great

  • nope they drive cars that are almost identical to police cars

  • well that's kinda retarded xD

  • A really nice suicide-machine. I like that.

  • Very cool.. Your mom rocks ! I think I hear a train...

  • too narrow wheels

  • the only problem with your train track mobile is what will happen if you drive over a switch, its slung too low and it will hit the switch

  • what switches... theres not switches on any tracks here. only a greaser box thats on the side of the tracks.

  • but there will be switches, and what im saying is that unit could not negotiate a switch since it is slung low between the rails.

  • you dont think the greaser presents a hazard? stopping on dry rail is tough enough, let alone wet, or greasy rail, a machine weighing 23000 lbs, can slide for 1500 feet after running over a greaser.

  • How'd you forget the guide rollers mounted on the frame inside of each wheel? They could roll against the inside of each track and that'd keep the thing on the tracks, letting you go much faster. You didn't finish the thing. Patience....go back to thet shop and finish it!

pretty cool though......(stay off the curves on the track...trains win the fight every time)

  • "That's illegal"---waaaaaah!!! I'm telling mommy! Like these cry babies have never violated a law... Bet their lives are really boring. Good job on the cart. Maybe version 2 will stay on the rails better.

  • you ever see what someone looks like after a train hits them?

  • Yes, in person. It's a lot quicker and more comfortable than cancer or Alzheimer, though. I'd rather use a good amount of vigilance and forethought and live life, than waste life away being a ninny shut-in.

  • hard to believe you would still trespass after seeing someone hit by a train, look im not gonna start some bullshit flame, just find a small railroad, ask them permission, tell them you will sign a release waiver and have all the fun you want, I work for a railroad, and my machine isnt as loud as a locomotive, you walk 40 feet away and you cant hear it anymore, but I can still go 30 mph, and I for one wouldnt like to meet that contraption on a curve. Also, raise it up some, too low for crossings.

  • Hey, I'm sure you're a reasonable guy--so am I. Not speaking for what anyone else does, and this isn't even my video. But with my cart I was always extremely on the look out for trains, hi-rails, and anything else. We only went at night so we could see oncoming lights easier, and the cart was so light and slow you could clear the track in a heartbeat. Traffic was slow because it was in a helper district. Not saying you're not right from a common view, but we were very concerned about being safe.

  • It's still trespassing, no matter how you justify it. Not cool at all.

I'd like to introduce you to some of my brothers in the locomotive who have seriously injured or killed people who were trespassing on railway property... or even some of their families, since quite a few of them can't take the pain and end up taking their own lives -- all because someone decided to use railway property as a shortcut, a walking path or otherwise decided that the danger isn't real.

    Just stay off the tracks.

  • Most people hit by a train are in a car either stalled on the tracks or trying to beat the train at a crossing. pedestrians are usually either committing the act of suicide or too comfortable with their close proximity to a passing train. I think these guys in this video are being very alert to the dangers of an approaching train. And Yes I've been eye witness to train accidents and had a close friend commit suicide by stepping in front of one. There is always risk in a full life lived.

  • My point is that it is trespassing, Ive told the person who made this video that I do not condone it, and I did give him some tips of what to look out for and told him who to contact for formal permission. They may be alert, but even me, a railroader, has had trains sneak up on me, it happens. If your theory is of risk in a full life, basically you are saying throw caution to the wind, do dangerous things, and your life will be more full, you can enjoy life and still be safe while doing it.

  • throw a motor on it

  • time to play chicken with the locomotive!!

  • Wow your gunna get great milages with that

  • hahaha

  • i wonder if a train came along?

  • me 2

  • Quick point... isn't it just easier to ride a bike alongside the traintrack rofl...
