@carolpaladina You are right, this language derived from Portuguese. It is called Creole Portuguese spoken in most of the African parts that had been colonized by Portuguese: Southern Senegal (where the singer is originated from); there is also Creole Portuguese in Bissau Guinea. Here is for you information and enjoy this beautiful tune.
@fizihkull Sorry Most of the song is in Creole portuguese from southern Senegal. Of cours a few part of the song (just one sentence) is in Wolof in fact. I speak the both languages. Enjoy
When I was working as a dj I used to play it as my final track ........ imagine a nearly empty jazz club just before closing down, some people drinking their last drink at the bar, i was packing up my things, the staff started cleaning the tables from the empty glases ........ and this song playing ............... :) Fantastic sax and guitar solos ... just travel away ............
This is so friggin'good. Have known this song 4 about 2 years now(as soon as there's a hint of summer, they play it on the dutch radio.) Summer's to come and orchestra Baobab is going to stay... Didn't know they were so good live as well...
Absolutely enthralling. The voices and instruments mesh in a fascinating way. It is hard to say which is answering or challenging which. This is jazz at its best, come full circle around the globe, with tales to tell of where it has been, and shiney artifacts from the cultures it met on the way.
that my senegalese people and i am so proud that i come from there and living in the us now to expand and teach this beautiful culture. keep it up guys... i was dancing in this song whn i was 3 years old..goshhh gud memory.
I first heard Orchestra Baobab when I was 11 years old..sounded good then sounds awesome now...CLASSIC....love the cross influences between the Cubanos and Senegalese......There is hope for the races!
well my friend I must inform you that there is minimal difference. This is Afro-Cubana culture so the cross influence you speak of is the parent returning what the child developed after they left and saw it was good.
No, they really mean portuguese and wolof. The language in this song is a Portuguese creole language spoken in Guinea-Bissau and southern Senegal (Casamance).
Not much to say about this song its just amazing, just grabbed the official ringtone for this song at DownloadEveryTone. Com if anyone is interested -------------
The song is generally known as Utru horas (some other times), but is really "Lua ka ta kema" (The moon does not burn), originally composed by the fabulous José Carlos Schwarz, from Guinea-Bissau in 1972. He was lead singer/composer of Cobiana Djazz. "Zé Carlos" died in 1977.
Orch. Baobab is truly a great band, but I hope you will look up Cobiana Djazz, as well. That will only make you richer.
@manolokoo Hi! I am still waiting for Zé Manel and the recording company to do something. Anyway, "José Carlos Schwarz" will provide some sounds for you. He was the main man in the band, although other mebers were also composing great music. Check one of the blogspot sites, or cd stores around. At least 2 collections should still be available. Good luck!
@badiubranku ciao, it seems you know them quite well: is there any way to get the translation of their songs: I love so much the sound and the music and the voices, so sensual and full of vibrations , and I really wish to know the contents...tahnak you , Beatrice from Italy
Unbelievable song I cant stop listening to it! And I just found the ringtone at DownloadEveryTone. com the quality is awesome if anyone wants to get it
does anyone knows where is this band from exactly... i kinda would guess that tey are from either Cape Verde or Guiné Bissao but not so sure... just for the fact of their language
They're from Senegal. The singer is from Casamance, just north of Guinea-Bissau, which was settled by the Portuguese before the French took control, so yeah, there are people there who speak Guinea-Bissau Creole.
Same here. I have all the albums in my car for the long journeys. I grew up listening to these guys. I have to say they are at their best playing live. This just blows my mind away.
A majesterial performance here! - I love these guys and I have had the pleasure of having the new lead singer Assane Mboup come to my house - Eat your heart out you snivelling little toadies he he he...
Oh you miserable little toady! I envy you! They are masters. The music, I'd choose for the lonely island. You can listen to it every day, it will never lose its soul. It lives!
I saw the orchestra in 2000 or 2001, I forgot, but this was one of the best concerts in my life!!! Old and young people, between 16and 70! The Hall was not too big, so it almost was familiar, it was no problem to come close to the stage, because everybody was continiously moving and dancing, from the back to the front and around. and nobody got too drunk or so, that night was special, pure "love and peace and happiness"! Great Music! Thanks for the video!
Whom I called "Mr. FerrerM was a man called Ibrahim Ferrer Planas, Cuban Bolero singer. He used to perform with Benny More and Arsenio Rodriguez (if I'm not mistaking) and recently in Buena Vista Social Club as depicted in numerous albums which are still being released after his passing away as well as inna flick called "Buena Vista Social Club" by Wim Wnders.
