  • I had forgotten how superb this song is. Jeff's voice just carries this perfectly.

  • Wonderful track...I'm lucky ...I have found my shangri La...Love and peace to those who haven't yet

  • i enjoy challenging arrangements, lyrics, etc. keep coming back to elo - I remember my bro finding Face The Music on the side of the road, brought it home and - we discovered elo = they didnt have any airplay in our area at that time - dumb - glad we discovered them and are still enjoying their music ~

  • dont thing im retarded im 14 but this was the 70's?

  • @n0rt0nat0r Yes, this was done in the 70s. That decade wasn't ONLY about country-rock and disco. ;)

  • @no1elofaniknow hahahah i love ELO

  • One of my favorites. Nice Vid.

  • a brilliant track from a brilliant composer writer and band my all time favourite group i never ever tire of playing their music

  • I totally agree with all the wonderful comments about Jeff Lynne and ELO. They are in a class of their own; no others sound anything like them. To say Jeff Lynne is a genius almost seems like an understatement. I am tempted to say this is my favorite song of theirs...but there are so many others that I also love just as much!

Thanks for posting this video - I truly enjoyed watching all the images and, of course, listening to the awesome sounds created by the one-of-a-kind person, Jeff Lynne!

  • @MsPreciousParrot how true i totally agree with you every track is a gem

  • Lynne is the second best composer in the history of rock, just surpassed a little by Lennon and MacCartney (the couple).

  • @Ray0X0 That would not surprise me in the least. Why was so much of the group's work unrecognized for their unique magnificence?

  • I'm masochist. When my heart is broken, I listen to this song

  • I love everything that's ELO ! Thanks so much for posting this one.

Maybe this is only my opinion but...ELO is especially sweet when listening with headphones. :)

  • My parents bought this album in 1976 from Woolworths in Elm Park and from the moment I heard it I was hooked. I'm 42 now and this still is my fave album. Brings back great memories. Thanks for uploading this and all the other ELO greats.

  • @luvyellowroses1 Very true indeed. Jeff Lynne's music is the only testament he needs....it stands on its own merits.

  • Sinfonia de Angeles!!!!

  • "Clouds roll by, and hiiiiiide the sun / raaaaaaiiindrops fallin' on ev'ryone / So sad / I'm gettin' out uhv luuuhv"

I could just listen to Jeff sing that all day long! What a golden voice! Truly, a magnificent talent, to take the styles of classical, doo-wop, soul, and opera and combine them all into this glorious song!

  • @no1elofaniknow ... and, I forgot to mention, blues!

  • Magdalena,,Magdalena,,Ohhh! my Shangri-la has gone away,,,

  • Grew up with ELO. This is my favourite ELO song, memories of the mid-70s with some friends who have now passed on. Thanks for posting this

  • awesome song from Mr Jeff 'genius' Lynne. I have followed them since i saw 10538 on top of the pops in 72. Have watched them go from un-noticed band to mega stardom and what a ride it was.

  • thanx for the pics... well done!

  • "I WILL reTURN!!!!!"

  • forgot how great this song is

  • I have all my vinyl from when I was a kid, but this album has special meaning. This was the first album that I ever bought with my own money from my paper route LOL! I still have close to 1,200 albums and over 1,000 45's tucked away in their original sleeves/jackets. ELO, ELP, CSNY, Queen, Styx...THESE were the great bands of the 70's that will last a lifetime !And Shangri-La, such an ominous finale to the song, wow! Thanx for posting this man!! =)

  • i love Jeff Lynne music and have followed his career since 1975. This song from A New World Record is a masterpiece as all of Jeffs work.I even want this song played at my funeral.

  • "Overhead, large, heavy sad clouds lumbered across the sky but the moon, just approaching the full, was visible through cracks in the clouds. Martin knew that he was through the worst, that the Lord was with him with Fiona gone just as much as with Fiona present." The last bit this classic song, 4:15 to end, always reminds me of those clouds.

  • damn this song is good

  • I sat so all-alone many years ago, so heart-broken, too; and I used to listen to this song. Driving through the desert.

    thank-you. John, Walkerville, SA

  • self taught genius !

  • @ericvontrips You got that right! Jeff Lynne taught himself to play music. Only the very best can do that.

  • @ericvontrips solo la modestia en un trabajo a conciencia de como fruto la grandeza jeff lynne genio por para siempre

  • Two peoples are idiots

  • @dy94303 three people are idiots !

  • Coming from the West Midlands makes you proud that we produce bands like this.. moody blues were not bad either....let's not forget ozzy and many other heavy metal bands, judas priest lived on the next estate to me.

  • Shangrila>>>(A Place of heaven..Happiness..)

  • WORDS FAIL ME , FANTASTIC , SOUNDS BETTER THE OLDER THE MUSIC GETS , OF ALL THE SUPER GROUPS , WOULDNT IT BE FANTASTIC TO SEE ELO REFORM . WE LIVE IN HOPE . tHEY SEEM TO HAVE A SONG FOR EVERY MOOD !!

  • I'd pay some good money to sit in a corner and just listen to Jeff plunk around on his git and cough a few times.

  • this is my 2nd Favorite Song

  • The "aria" at the end of the song makes me want to think of Jeff Lynne holding a spear and wearing a helmet with big horns. .... A viking! Yeah!

  • "My shangrila has gone away too"!!!

  • As a child for years and years i waded through the muck of candy coated pop radio. Then all at once from out of the blue I heard the awesome voice of Jeff Lynne flow across my am radio and my musical taste was impressed FOREVER! Livin thing was the song, i was probably 11 or 12 yrs old.

  • reminds me of 77' my cousin bought this album and it blew me away ! these guys earned their place in music like the beatles ,the stones etc!

  • "se desvanecio como Los Beatles en Hey Jude (1:13 - 1:16)

    "Las nubes estan cerca ,

    y ocultan el sol,

    Las gotas de lluvia caen

    en cada uno

    tan triste

Me estoy yendo del amor" (2:06 - 2:27) inspirador, gran cancion

  • there are not groups like ELO anymore!!! They made dream...a real legend.....

  • I was 18 going on 12 when I lost a girl I was very fonf of. Consequently, I sought and found solace in this song. Katrina, I hope your life turned out as well as mine.

  • Roy Wood......

  • Incedible song!!! remember me to Fredy Mercury some how

  • genial Elo es genial ........

  • Young people dont be like meIf you see a chance at a relationship seize it!!!!!

  • Nice tribute...classic song!

  • Jeff Lynne is a musical genius all right, he could've been the 5th Beatle.

  • @snuffereet

Well he was in a sense.. Him and George Harrison were close friends for many years.. The two even joining up together on the Traveling Wilbury's

  • Jon Lennon refered to ELO as the sons of beatles, he recognised the talent, given by God, so even though as a Christian I think Jeff missed the mark, there is still time for him to turn towards Jesus, but I also thoroughly enjoy all of his music, what a truly immense legacy left to be counted as one of histories best.

  • no doubt one of the greatest albums of our time.

  • Everybody have their own special shangri-la. in a moment of our life. nights, days, years, hopes, dreams, and personal fight. survive

  • This song wraps up one of the most incredible albums of the 2oth century --A New World Record.

I still have my 8-track of the album in my treasures box,its the only one i kept .

The band , headed by Jeff Lynne will -ALWAYS

be one of my favorites, the pure sound they created is legend ..

Thank you for posting this great tune !!!

  • @hlywdplayer I could not agree with you more, they were fantastic.......

  • Did ya hear the beginning? "AL hamdu la illah" He always was a great Muslim, like myself. Praise Allah, most kind, most merciful. Give thanks that we have had this influence for 2 thousand + years. Jesus' pals ROCK!

  • grazie Talos, grazie jeff, Ivo from Italy

  • i am crying...actually.

  • sweet sad perfect

  • No one can write a more haunting song than Jeff Lynne. Songs like One Summer Dream, Misson, Midnight Blue and this one show the man's genius for melodies. He has never received enough critical credit for the beautiful songs he writes.

  • @wpollock1 OMG you are spot on!!!!!!!!!

  • @wpollock1 Dreamy tunes and haunting - like "stepping out" as well

  • a new favourite.. of the all.

  • How wonderful a sound he concieves even for a broken heart.....you have to admit it....Jeff Lynne is a musician wh STILL hasn't got his due

  • Great song....... I love it !....thank you for the upload and the very beautiful pictures

    Bye

    Paolo from Italy

  • Jeff Lynne was the 5th Beatle, so three still remain. At least Jeff Lynne and George Harrison got to collaborate together often. I miss the times of the Beatles and ELO.

  • OBRA MAESTRA

  • Shangrila>>>>definition>>>Happiness>> a heavenly place..a source of "the enlightenment" I wonder how many of you really knew this ....let me kno

  • ELFAB..i feel you my shangrila has gone away as well..:(

  • MY SHANGRY LA HAS GONE TOO

  • i think time is the best album

  • Wish I had a nickel for every time the name Jeff Lynne and the word "genius" were put together. I'd pay cash money to meet him and listen to him read even just a restaurant menu. I think he was reincarnated from the times of Mozart and the like. For those people who cannot recognize this man's brilliance, is pure ignorance. I just feel all the more fortunate to have been introduced to this music back in the early to mid 70s.

  • Brilliant comments!! Couldn't have put it better myself!!

  • @talos124 lol,great!

  • @eclecticear Jeff Lynne? A genius for sure...

  • ANWR was Jeff's best ELO album in my opinion. The best merge of his early work and then what ELO would evolve to later.

This is the quintessential ELO album for the first time buyer. Once they get it, they'll buy the rest.

  • SPECTACULAR, I can listen it 1000000 times and I always think so!!!!

  • "My Shangri La has gone away. . . faded like The Beatles on Hey Jude."One of the best lines and one of the best tributes ever.

  • love that instrumental part and the chorus at the end,so magical sounding,

what modern group could do that huh?

Louis Clark should have more credit for those string arrangements.that ELO is famous for.

    I love ELO-Jeff

  • this song is amazing, such an epic production... i love elo anyways, but this song really is some sort of grand masterpiece!

  • anybody knows the set of chords that come after 3:50 ?

  • Man, this dude can sing!

  • 'out of the blue' and 'a new world record' my favourite albums ever. Each of these songs is a masterwork a jewel unique and outstanding.

Pure beauty. Powerful and sweet, I'm swooning eveery time one of these songs comes to my ears. It makes me feel so good I can't tell just floating away

  • I agree totally, very well put.

  • I have never understood that Jeff Lynne in

every his comments rates Out of the Blue his

musical highlight. It is a good double album.

But A New World Record ( like this song )

is a pop- music masterpiece !

  • I agree with you totally, could listen to these songs forever. What are they doing now?

  • i saw them on TV s few years back,I think they still play on occasion.

  • Yes..Jeff's music does really send you somewhere else doesn't it-a musical Genius!!!

  • ELO THE BEST...WONDERFUL TRIBUTE VIDEO talos124

  • !!genius!! nothing more

  • Sublime, Brilliant, or Peerless may have been a better choice of words.

"Genius" has been much abused of late.

Saying that, this is obviously a track never designed to be anything but an album track.Moody, dreamy and yes GENIUS!!!.

One of the best things about Punk music (which I do admire)is that it made music such as this unique.

  • The first time I heard this song - April 1977 - the last time I heard it - yesterday! 31 years later, still one of those songs I still have to stop and pay attention to it because I love the harmony, the keyboards, and the feel!! I couldn't have picked a better tribute song for Jeff Lynne

  • great tune from a great album

  • remember the ldle race, this is one of the best rfom elo

  • nice job, love this song, this band

  • amazing how many times you see JJeff Lynne called a Genius..Hey who could argue..To me He is is the total evolution of Music rolled up into one..From Mozat, Beethoven to Lynn..Ask tom petty Ful moon fever, and the Willburys..Their stuff wouldnt be half as goood if werent for the

greatest mind ever to strum a guitar

  • I agree totally. With Jeff-every song is different from the next, every sound and every note is different, every rhythm is different-fast or slow-it doesnt matter, heavy or soft..its all melodic brilliance, thats not to mention the wonderful harmonies. If MOZART were alive today-he would have been a member of ELO.

  • just listen to the passages on this song alone..Man this song is a symphony ..It totally cuts into my soud and brings tears everytime i hear...

  • A wonderful tribute to Jeff Lynne he is a genius created such lovely music, this song by elo is nice, sweet, kind of mellow just love it:)

  • Wow! ELO really is the best band ever! I´m a fan of them since the days when I was young and listened to them on radio in the late seventies. Excellent! Good work talos!

  • I haven't heard this song in years (or at least months)! Thanks SO much for posting it!

  • the best song they ever recorded.....pure genius

  • Got to be the most underrated band ever, pure genius and still a joy to behold even without jeff, this track just gets better every time you hear it absolute magic

  • What a magnificent band! George Harrison said it was ELO how the Beatles would have sounded if they hadn`t split. So sad it all ended like this with Jeff and the band...

  • Exellent.

    briliant rather.

  • Thank you for your comment! Its nice to hear from a fellow Jeff Lynne fan.

    Good luck with your band!!
