I totally agree with all the wonderful comments about Jeff Lynne and ELO. They are in a class of their own; no others sound anything like them. To say Jeff Lynne is a genius almost seems like an understatement. I am tempted to say this is my favorite song of theirs...but there are so many others that I also love just as much!
Thanks for posting this video - I truly enjoyed watching all the images and, of course, listening to the awesome sounds created by the one-of-a-kind person, Jeff Lynne!
My parents bought this album in 1976 from Woolworths in Elm Park and from the moment I heard it I was hooked. I'm 42 now and this still is my fave album. Brings back great memories. Thanks for uploading this and all the other ELO greats.
"Clouds roll by, and hiiiiiide the sun / raaaaaaiiindrops fallin' on ev'ryone / So sad / I'm gettin' out uhv luuuhv"
I could just listen to Jeff sing that all day long! What a golden voice! Truly, a magnificent talent, to take the styles of classical, doo-wop, soul, and opera and combine them all into this glorious song!
awesome song from Mr Jeff 'genius' Lynne. I have followed them since i saw 10538 on top of the pops in 72. Have watched them go from un-noticed band to mega stardom and what a ride it was.
I have all my vinyl from when I was a kid, but this album has special meaning. This was the first album that I ever bought with my own money from my paper route LOL! I still have close to 1,200 albums and over 1,000 45's tucked away in their original sleeves/jackets. ELO, ELP, CSNY, Queen, Styx...THESE were the great bands of the 70's that will last a lifetime !And Shangri-La, such an ominous finale to the song, wow! Thanx for posting this man!! =)
i love Jeff Lynne music and have followed his career since 1975. This song from A New World Record is a masterpiece as all of Jeffs work.I even want this song played at my funeral.
"Overhead, large, heavy sad clouds lumbered across the sky but the moon, just approaching the full, was visible through cracks in the clouds. Martin knew that he was through the worst, that the Lord was with him with Fiona gone just as much as with Fiona present." The last bit this classic song, 4:15 to end, always reminds me of those clouds.
Coming from the West Midlands makes you proud that we produce bands like this.. moody blues were not bad either....let's not forget ozzy and many other heavy metal bands, judas priest lived on the next estate to me.

I was 18 going on 12 when I lost a girl I was very fonf of. Consequently, I sought and found solace in this song. Katrina, I hope your life turned out as well as mine.
Jon Lennon refered to ELO as the sons of beatles, he recognised the talent, given by God, so even though as a Christian I think Jeff missed the mark, there is still time for him to turn towards Jesus, but I also thoroughly enjoy all of his music, what a truly immense legacy left to be counted as one of histories best.
@hlywdplayer I’ve just published a novel called The Mission of the Sacred heart, based on this classic ELO album, filled with secret messages for ELO fans. Available on Amazon!
Did ya hear the beginning? "AL hamdu la illah" He always was a great Muslim, like myself. Praise Allah, most kind, most merciful. Give thanks that we have had this influence for 2 thousand + years. Jesus' pals ROCK!
No one can write a more haunting song than Jeff Lynne. Songs like One Summer Dream, Misson, Midnight Blue and this one show the man's genius for melodies. He has never received enough critical credit for the beautiful songs he writes.
Jeff Lynne was the 5th Beatle, so three still remain. At least Jeff Lynne and George Harrison got to collaborate together often. I miss the times of the Beatles and ELO.
Wish I had a nickel for every time the name Jeff Lynne and the word "genius" were put together. I'd pay cash money to meet him and listen to him read even just a restaurant menu.
