@davesdead33 Totally agree! I'd like to see her make something with even a tenth the amount of depth of ST. But it's always the way with these critics- they can't create, and so they criticize. I think you need to be pretty switched on to NWO/ elitist/ military industrialist agendas to full appreciate this movie's brilliance.
the movie was "Eh" to me, i wanted to like it but it left so much out. you never find out exactly whats up with sean william scott's characters, or even justin timberlake's. because to me at the end, i think SWS character is not twins, but the future/past him, and also that JT character is actually SWS character after the plastic surgery. but who knows, its watchable, but very confusing. so imma read the graphic novels and then watch it again.
The movie was hot garbage. Kelly wishes he was david lynch. The worst attempt at political satire i have ever seen. Anyone trying to say this movie is a masterpiece in anyway has not see enough movies and mistakes overly complicated with smart and important
Karina Longworth needs to learn to respect Southland Tales. Southland Tales was a masterpiece at Cannes (I saw it there) and a masterpiece in the theatrical cut. I all behind the theatrical cut, but I gotta say it was even better at Cannes. One of my five favorite movies of all-time.
Don't beleive the critics opinion in regard to this amazingly visionary work of art! It's almost as if they sat down to watch it expecting to see a new Donnie Darko...
It's story line flows in an almost abstract non-linear dream state, which of course is how you would expect time and reality to act if a rift into the 4th dimension had burst through the planet...
I hope more people give this film a chance and look at it through an open mind.
I didn't see the film festival version, but the release at the local Blockbuster was really VERY good. I think Richard Kelly is very visionary, and his movies take time to settle in as the socio-politcal climate changes. Southland Tales is very relevant today. It throws in the Neo-Marxist movement, similar to the Ron Paul movement, (though not philosophically the same)...a movement none the less. Also the imagery of the hills burning evokes memories of the wildfires in SoCal. Cult Classic.
I saw Southland Tales yesterday at the Boulder International Film Festival and holy ****!!! It was AWESOME!!! Yes it's really weird and 95% of the movie your wondering what the hell is going on but at the end things start to come together. There are so many hidden references in the movie that I bet you could watch it 5 times and still be surprised with things you discover. Rent it when it comes out!
Having seen it, I'd call it a very flawed masterpiece. Lots of rough edges, but there is something there for those willing to take the effort to find it.

The movie was HORRIBLE! Donnie Darko is one of my favorites; Southland Tales just plain sucked. We almost walked out, but held onto hope that the ending would be worth the wait...we were wrong. And adding that video sequenced only prolonged the most agonizing 2h24m of my life.
same sort of things were said to donnie darko when it had it's debut... then it was re-cut and released again... and became a cult masterpeice. i bought the uncut version of donnie darko... and prefered the re-cut version a lot more. hopefully the same will go for Southland Tales.
That was a VERY good review/general chit chat about the film, she is very good!
I personally can't wait to see the film, and it seems that the "new and improved" cut may well prove very good and hit critics who panned the movie betweeen the legs...figuratively sepaking ofcourse...*whistles innocently and runs off*
this chicks a cunt.the movie is a masterpiece .some day people like her will get it.

This is the guy who made Donnie Darko. He's not your run of the mill film maker. I too thought this movie had balls.

The nurses are supposed to look like Marilyn Monroe... NOT Christina Aguilera.

Three words to describe Richard Kelly: "Tries too hard."
He should have waited until he was 30 to make a film. If you start under 30, you never really amount to much, because your ego traps you.
