this is actually the tragic band. listen to the original studio version. all these strap asses were called in last minute. they have NO fucking idea the parts of the song AT ALL. which really puts a crazy cool twist on it if you are a music geek. i feel like beefheart is desperately trying to hold it all together cohesively as the same song. the solo parts are pathetic... sorry just not the right stuff for the song, needs practice.
watch the captain and his harmonica..hilarious...cheeky grin when hes knows he's f**cked up..and pulls it off/key ha ha ! ace...4 times he turns it round..love the mad bastard..inspirational...
Dont think so dude and Beefheart would be the first to admit it.Its just that a lot of Zappas stuff is completely innaccessible...you really have to appreciate the sheer musical nouse that the man had...you cant compare Zappa n Beefheart really...its like comparing motocross and BMX...
I'm fairly new to Beefheart's music, I started with 'Safe as Milk' and a 'Best Of' album of his later stuff and then moved on to 'Trout Mask Replica'. I enjoyed it all, and I like this. I think it's unfair to compare this and his other work of that period to Trout Mask etc. I prefer to think of it as a pleasent song by a man of many talents.
sure do miss beefheaRT. wish he would do at least one last record for all us die-hard fans! thanks for posting this, its definitly a cool live performance.
this is one of my favourite songs of all time. And Beefheart loved music, he got screwed over left, right and center in the music world. I think you'll find beefheart influenced alot more people than he's given credit for
I also prefer Beefheart to Zappa, but isn't it possible to love both their ways. It could also be argued that Zappa was no more than Varese and be-bop. But he was.
I do love both!!But I see a difference whre the music comes from.Zappa was hughely cultured in classic music, he worked with his unique brain.Beefheart, for me, wasn't really interested in Music! He just made it cause he had to!Holger Czukay from CAN once said he hate music and he hate listen to music...
Beefhearts music comes from the heart.Zappsa more from his weird brain.I like Beefheart more, he had so much beautiful songs. He is and was a real artist.Everyone who loves music and hate Beefheart, you can turn around.
Beefheart forever?? While I respect your opinion, Zappa made this joker and wrote most of his music. Just listen to this and SEE the Zappa influence!! Sould of said HEAR Franks influence!!This guy was a hanger on with Frank until he quit in 1980 , with that Icecream for Crow album. They grew up together in California. Get Franks book (the real Frank Zappa ) and read !!!
There are also many other books on this subject..Frank and Don Vlient..the (VAN) was added later on..
you know that zappas band members left his band to join beefhearts. art tripp "zappa had sum good music but beefhearts where its at" jb even said so.
and your just a zappa addict that doesnt know shit about the blues and beefheart.
so shut the fuck up. zappa tryed to copy him. and all of the songs and music were written by don him self and transcribed by john french or arttripp. now please go on and try to say more things that arnt true about beef
WELL if it true. I apologise, and stud you dont have to talk to me like that!! And as far a Zappa copieing him??? Shelve life on Zappas music lasted right up till the day he died. How about your hero...what was it??? Ice cream for crow in 1980 or thereabouts???
You are quite the fool, so make up your own truth, YEP IM a addict . Van Vlients last hurrah was in 1980 and Zappa composed and wrote music that will last forever... You shut the f up clown, as you have not a clue!!!
I've been looking for this for ages - he's so spaced that when he does the harmonica solo at the end he puts it to his lips the wrong way round -twice!! still an awsome track though.
I've been listening to the Captain's music since my teens and even his "commercial" music is head and shoulders above most music out there...one could say everything after Trout Mask was commercial.
I've only recently been 'Booglarized'. Now I can't get enough Captain Beefheart. Could someone please tell me when this video is from? Trout Mask Replica forever!
