  • Rip pipe pops. You will be missed.

  • Sir would you say that smoking a pipe might be healthier than cigarettes?

  • great advice, thanks!

  • Most interesting man in the world?

  • proof that you can only smoke with awesome pipes if you have a beard.

  • Thank you for the tip. I m overseas right now and just started smoking pipes. I value any advice I can get.

  • you ARE the greatest generation

  • OPP: Thanks for your videos; they are very helpful. What is the overall length of your Nording churchwarden. I'm looking to buy one and like the one you are smoking here. Thanks!!!

  • I won't take pipe smoking tips from someone unless their old enough to be my granddad haha. Unfortunately for me I don't have any relatives who smoke a pipe all of mine that do smoke cigarettes which are wretched. I was hoping to try my hand at pipe tobacco when I turned 18 which will be in about another year.

  • I clean my Churchwarden every three or four bowls. I scrub it clean every time like new. Spotless. I find this works best for me. A clean smoke every time.

  • that polar bear is just staring at me

  • this is amazing quality for 360p

  • I'm not a smoker, but I dont mind some cigars and a pipe on rare occasion. None the less, you seem like you would be a very cool person to hang out with and talk to. Glad I watched this video.

    Cheers, sir.

  • My most-used pipe is a Kirstin pipe (from Kirstin Pipe Company) that I've had since the 1990s. I like it most because of how it deals with the moisture during the smoke session. All of the other pipes I've used with the many tobaccos all had problems getting too wet (in the stem) during a smoke. How do you deal with that moisture during the smoking session (assuming it builds up for you, as it does for me)?

  • Appreciate the tips! I'm a new pipe smoker, and I've taken to the same habit of blowing through the stem after a smoke. I'll be sure to try out your methods and see how they work!

  • OPP: Years ago i stopped smoking pipe because i got frustrated with it i.e. building carbon cake, relighting, gross tar taste, etc. I started up again about two weeks ago and have adopted your posted method for building carbon cake. I have six pipes and slowly i'm seeing progress with developing the cake in each one. Thanks for the advice and have a Blessed Christmas!!

  • You tobacco guys need to use glass.

  • Good info thank you, I also have read in some old instructions to a pipe my good friend got in the 60s he still has the box and care tips , it says to blow through the stem after the pipe has completely cooled and dried to clear out the dottle

  • I appreciate your channel my good sir, subscribed

  • I have been doing The same thing with the blowing and wasn't sure if I should stir and smoke the bottom thank you very much

    Kev

  • great vdeo thanks for the vid

  • EPIC BEARD POPS.

  • I like your churchwarden. I have 52 pipes but untill now, no churchwarden, but should have one soon, waiting for the postman to deliver. There are just no pipe shops left in Brtitain anymore, you have buy on line.

I have subscribed to your site, and I am an old bearded guy like you :-) so perhaps you would like to sub' to mine too?

  • @538921 Done,. Thanks,

    Pops

  • @oldpipepops My pleasure son.

  • @538921 sub'd too

  • @538921 If you live in the South, it's good to make a trip to Taylor's tobbaconists in Brighton

  • @538921 no pipe shops in Britain? i have ordered many pipes from tobacco and smoke shops in Britain. but maybe they're just internet shops?, not real ones, like you the ones you have so many in Germany. In Germany are plenty of great tobacco and pipestores.

  • @538921 I just went down to Mayfair in central London, i found 3 different high quality tobacconists to choose from. I went with JJ Fox (some of their videos on youtube also) and was met with amazing range and great service. So if you're ever in London, check out St James' St. not far from Bond street tube station.

  • Thanks for the advice there, Pops.

    David

  • Fantastic. I think this is a good method. I would like to ask a question. So a full bowl is too wet at the bottom, so do you just do half a bowl, then shake the ashes? Do you do this 10 times? I tried smoking a whole bowl stirring the ashes. Buy the time I got to the bottom the tobacco was so strong I got very ill.

  • @TheJetboy200 Hi There, I break in a new pipe smoking half bowls for the first 10 bowls. When I get to the bottom of the bowl, I stir the ashes and re-light to smoke it to the bottom. You subscribe by clicking the subscribe button on the top of the videos. Hope that helps.

  • I use a combination of the two techniques, both shaking the ashes and giving the stem a quick blow when I'm through with a pipe (unless it's my Savinelli, which catches the moisture in a balsa filter). I am under the (perhaps mistaken) belief that the hardened "juice" creates a protective layer on the bottom of the bowl, quicker than the carbon layer that is being built up on the sides.

  • I now watch Tamper P's channel! Difficult to understand him, but he's pretty good guy I believe! I need to hook up my little speakers to the puter. I also run a pipe cleaner into the stem and shake up the ashes, leaving the residue on the bowl walls. Dont know if its of any value to the smoking quality.:) Great video pops!

  • I'm guilty as well...always blow into the stem after emptying the bowl to get the juice into the bowl where the air can dry it for a day or so. I also swipe the bowl with a whiskey-soaked pipe cleaner every couple of smokes...I never have to remove any cake as it doesn't really get a chance to accumulate - a mistake perhaps. ~ C

  • Nice Tip!

  • That's a great tip for sure! Thanks!

    Cheers,

    Harvey

  • That's a great tip. I also have been blowing through the shank to clear out the last remains of ash and I was thinking only yesterday that it probably wasn't a very good idea because of the moisture. Thanks for the advice.

  • @SimpaSmoker I hope it was helpful.

  • @SimpaSmoker I hope it was helpful.

  • @oldpipepops dear pops,

Have you ever come across a frog pipe? Heard they smoke pretty well.

  • @OldNorthernSmoky As i have said before, I don't have the patients to do the quarter bowls for ten days and increase the load gradually. That being said; A full bowl of a moist tobacco tends to also collect moisture in the bottom of the bowl, producing more dottle that won't burn into dry ash. Leaving the dried ash as a coating in the bowl of a new pipe by shaking it around before dumping it helps me build the cake faster and more evenly.

  • Thank you for the good tip, I too have been blowing through the stem to clear it out without thinking about the moisture. I'll follow your method now.

  • @harjoeric Great. I hope it works for you.
