I think it's favortism, actually. Why should someone be able to do something simply because they have a friend or network in "high places?" That's like someone in wall street investing millions in a film for a friend simply because they grew up together. I don't "know" people. I can't leave my house, so I don't meet people. (I have a disorder). But writers in the old days were more like me and they still got their stories read. Unless you're outgoing these days, you're not important in any way.
