@dbzgtcrazy That is not a totally correct "Protestant" view you present. The universal church has always been represented within and without the RCC from the beginning and still today. Protestants do not accept the authority of the RCC as equal with what is revealed in Scripture. This leads to many doctrinal and disciplinarian differences, but it does not disqualify Catholics from representing the True Gospel or being saved through the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Yesterday (Apr. 26), I played another hymn by this name to the tune LLANFAIR, composed by Robert Williams. The lyrics were by Wipo of Burgundy and translated by Jane E. Leeson. It is #369 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. These lyrics were written by Charles Wesley. We sing it to ORIENTIS PARTIBUS, composed by Pierre de Corbeil without Alleuia's (#373). Just thought I'd share.
the general Protestant view of church history is that the universal church that started out did in fact become the RCC (and/or the Eastern Orthodox Church), but over time, the Gospel got distorted in the church, with a few small sects on the sides always maintaining the clear, full, and true Gospel, until Protestantism was formally born out of the Reformation, esp. with Luther's work.
Oh dear.

Must you post that on every single hymn video you come across? Irritating. Let's just enjoy the music.
